welder··on GPT 6.1 Sol: Near-Astra intelligence for a fifth of the price
Is anyone else over all the metaphorical model names? Sol, Opus, Sonnet, Astra... Just give them versions instead of trying to be the next Apple and name every release.
welder··on Muse – Meta’s personal AI agent
Same here. Facebook has a horrible experience when you're traveling or logging in from a new computer. I still have business Instagram accounts blocked with no way to login and no support. Wouldn't want to depend on anything from Facebook, especially not something with access to my email, calendar, and browser.
welder··on Show HN: Make senders work to get into your inbox
I built this for my company email, but instead of sending captchas it puts non-customer emails into a folder that I never read. Emails from customers and contacts get into my inbox, and get labeled based on their support subscription level.

Most tech companies I've seen gate and filter customer support on web not email, then only sales and external interfacing employees need external emails and the bigger problem is phishing not spam.

For my personal email I would never use this, because I myself would never solve a captcha to reach someone's inbox and I can't expect different from others.

welder··on So You Want to Define a Well-Known URI
Does a change-password registry actually get used, even by bots? I don't see bots checking for a .well-known/change-password url on my sites. It seems a good place to put public configs, just to have a place for them, but not as a means of discovery.
welder··on PgDog is funded and coming to a database near you
Three real-world issues I've run into recently with PgBouncer + Postgres are:

1. pool exhaustion from idle connections inside open long-running transactions

2. SQLAlchemy's client-side pool using dead connections that PgBouncer had already killed, causing periodic request errors

3. Some tasks have to bypass PgBouncer when they use SET or prepared statements

I've already sharded large datasets at the application layer, but looks like PgDog solves the above problems for any future work?

welder··on PgDog is funded and coming to a database near you
Don't forget the original PgBouncer. Hard to setup, but with the help of AI these days it's easier to configure.
welder··on The quiet renovation at Bitwarden
I don't care about raising prices, I'm worried about the new CEO having a PE mindset. That means Bitwarden will now focus on extracting value while the product stagnates and degrades in quality. Time to jump ship before their security and quality goes down the drain.
welder··on Ask HN: What are you working on? (May 2026)
I'm building an AI Dashboard & AI Leaderboard where you can see who generates the most lines of code using Codex, Claude, Copilot, Cursor, etc. https://wakatime.com/ai
welder··on ChatGPT Images 2.0
Introducing DeepFakes 2.0 /s
welder··on Guide.world: A compendium of travel guides
The Dominican Republic one is really detailed and surprisingly accurate, down to the pig on the moto! Come visit again soon :)

welder··on We've raised $17M to build what comes after Git
Your kids need to learn how to clean up after themselves.

All you need is a camera pointing at the floor with image detection... when there's legos on the floor it triggers a video playing that explains how the kids need to pick up the legos. /s

welder··on Porting Go's strings package to C
Refreshing seeing someone coding without AI in 2026.
welder··on My Google Workspace account suspension
> I removed my phone number from the account. I am travelling to the UK for a short period and did not want to have roaming on my Australian phone.

So for my own notes, removing a phone number from my Google account before travel will risk account suspension. Hope OP resolves it, but also need to make sure this never happens to me.

welder··on Cursor 3
Damnit, now I probably have to update my vscode plugin to support Cursor 3... I mean have a coffee or go for a swim while waiting on AI to update my vscode plugin to support Cursor 3. :P
welder··on Ask HN: What is it like being in a CS major program these days?
EU is way behind US in AI and doesn't have the big tech jobs after graduation. Probably best to look at US schools to answer OPs question.
welder··on Ask HN: Share your personal website

> UPDATE: It is going to take a while to go through all the submissions and add them. If you'd like to help with the process, please send a PR directly to this project

Just run this Python script then paste the output into your pwd.lisp file. You're welcome :)

welder··on Show HN: Nogic – VS Code extension that visualizes your codebase as a graph
Here's the source code minified and bundled:

https://www.gallery.vsassets.io/_apis/public/gallery/publish...

Unzip that archive and the source is in extension/dist folder.

welder··on I rebooted my social life
If I have an in-person community that's non-tech it's enough for me to only have an online tech community. That's how it was for me growing up, and it would be great to have that again.
welder··on I rebooted my social life
> Hanging out with other humans is good – and if you can’t find a community… you can always build your own.

I did just that, and built https://wonderful.dev

It's based around jobs for devs, but right now it's just a place to chat about tech.

welder··on Shai Hulud launches second supply-chain attack

welder··on Time to start de-Appling
Move away from the UK. This is a UK law forcing Apple to share your data if you live in the UK.
welder··on Europe to decide if 6 GHz is shared between Wi-Fi and cellular networks
No, I'm talking about anyone with SS7 access basically has root on the whole network and can query for locations of any phone number anonymously... no audit trail, no access control.

welder··on Europe to decide if 6 GHz is shared between Wi-Fi and cellular networks
I wish govt would put a condition on the mobile carriers to fix SS7 vulnerabilities.
welder··on Codebase is 250% AI generated
I wish he had real data on lines of code written by AI vs Human using WakaTime, instead of guessing the 98% number.
welder··on DuckDB NPM packages 1.3.3 and 1.29.2 compromised with malware
Please change that now! It's the muscle memory of never typing a password that prevents you from being victim to phishing.

welder··on My startup banking story (2023)
Paying vendors
welder··on My startup banking story (2023)
You should start a business for your construction projects, then use a business bank like Mercury instead of Chase and get all the nice business features.
welder··on Cursor CLI
Disappointed it didn't launch with Hooks. [0] I know this is a Beta launch, but I thought they would learn from Claude and copy. Hooks enable plugins, like https://wakatime.com/claude-code

At first I thought this was metrics about vibe coding... but it's not, that's WakaTime
