waffenklang··on Introducing Digbuild: An Open-Source Voxel Game
dont like the new trend where games get titled as voxel based while their just using cubes which arent voxel based as world elements.
waffenklang··on NeXTSTEP Demo - Classic Steve Jobs
Wow. An easy to use, fast and simple OS. This outperforms any other OS on the market. Must have!!!!
waffenklang··on Elementary OS
i dont understand why every new distro has to be praised by the owners as the ultimate [lightweight|powerfull|blaaa] distro every user should use. and why every publisher needs to praise a new philosophie in its work. Especially those who just copy ideas from others or invent a new wheel or just make another linux distro.

and its really the wrong direction if every developer who starts with some more or less usefull linux applications seems to have to create a new distro instead of making just a project to add to an existing distro.

waffenklang··on Ask HN: Maximum bang in 3 months?
1) make some courses on engineering for: a) make your own little sweet bicycle business at home b) do something with old cars/motorcycles

2) learn how to create quality furniture (so you can save money or earn if you sell things)

3) learn an instrument

all of this is possible within three months, but need more training afterwards to achieve perfection.

edit: to clarify and link to sucess: all of this wont bring you much more experience as developer but as a workout it is really really good and you can have your mind free but creative and maybe be more productive as coder which means more success.

waffenklang··on Xcode 4 released
It looks like Embarcadero's Delphi, even with that own debugger stuff. All in one.
waffenklang··on Ask HN: "Watson" hardware to cost $1M USD, know of a better deal?
Of course. Create a main guessing algo running on a single machine using data mining from the internet and former questions, using pattern matching and smart googleing.

If you got it, parallelise it and distribute it in a way like SETI.

waffenklang··on Ask HN: Need a book recommendation
But isnt it just for the processing language and the processing tools?

My intention was on ordinary dtp programs like CS suite. (so propably jscript?)

waffenklang··on Idea: Code Snippet Storage
There are several Tools for Desktop, Mobile and Web which suit your description. Just compare and use one of them.
waffenklang··on 7 Things You Did Not Know About Google Instant
This was also the question which came to my mind. Whats the difference between Google Instants Search results and the normal? Shouldnt be the same?
waffenklang··on Demo about mixing HTML5, CSS3, WebGL
I love this.

I'm really really glad that HTML5 and CSS3 (inkl. svg) is on their way out of the development status and is becoming popular. This will change everything on web.

waffenklang··on Why Email is Broken, and what LeBron wants from his inbox...
Well all these points are not against E-Mail but against E-Mail programs. The E-Mail system is a priori not made for being dynamic, broadcasting and flexible. It should be a simple straight forward messaging system like mails, i mean real. And it is and it is good.

All these things, the entry requested from E-Mails should be handle within an application.

waffenklang··on Hacker News for iPhone ($3) app is insanely great
Well it is not the amount of money the complaints are about. It is the fact that it is sold. The complaints are about the fact, that the app offers service which you can get for free by just using your browser, with just one (max. two) taps less than it. So it is just a HN related mini browser. And imho this not really a justification for an app.

Even the argument "it saves me minutes of time" isnt an argument in my eyes as these are truly trivial 2 minutes which you should be glad to spend on something you like as the moment just before HN appears is the moment where you can mentally prepare and calm yourself to enjoy the time you read HN. See it as anticipation and spend the $3 on a coffee which you enjoy while reading.

waffenklang··on Hacker News for iPhone ($3) app is insanely great
On my Iphone browsing HN in landscape just needs one time zooming to become readable. I now switched to palm pre and there it is even much better in landscape, i dont need to zoom.

yes, its a personal feling. but i think one time zooming is ok and not worth buying an app.

waffenklang··on Hacker News for iPhone ($3) app is insanely great
Well and why should I get this app?

HN is a really lightweight webpage, which looks good even on mobile browsers. The app navigation is similiar to the browser nav and even commenting is similiar as within browser. so why spend $3 to have a bookmark of HN?

waffenklang··on Google's Latest Launch: Its Own Trading Floor
finally they got it. i'm curious when google will launche it own 'dont do evil' fund.
waffenklang··on Hack your Canon to take crazy pictures (open source)
those software is really worth to contribute and its a pity that there are no projects like it for other cams.
waffenklang··on Google Pacman Code
yes, at line 2225 (which is only viewable at rawmode on git): g.level == 256 && g.killScreen()

killscreen creates the blind side

waffenklang··on Google Pacman Code
ah! They put the blind side in. Neat.
waffenklang··on The Demoscene -- an Overview
Yes thats true. It was a really cool time but now as you attend a demo event you just realise that we are all outdated guys who know each other and everybody know in what you are specialised and what you will do. And there are those who just do demos serialisation (demos look like the one you just made before) with neat tools and top algos which is becoming boring. and you realise that their is no young flesh bringing new life and spirit to the whole thing.

we all grow old.

waffenklang··on Ask HN: Power of VIM?
+ it's much more dynamic with integration of compiler than any other editor (I know) and supports even integration plugins for gdb

+ it will help you prevent mistypings during other actions (thanks to insert mode) and sometimes I think it even helps to write better code.

waffenklang··on The Trades of a Lifetime in 20 Minutes
maybe there were a limit order from nyse high graded manager at 59% of the last trade of one of the stocks and he likes to don't have to work again for the next couple of years.

But this demonstrates well the advantages of options and other instruments that were not traded on an exchange. Even just for hedging sometimes there are more profitable than the lowest limit order.

waffenklang··on Gizmodo and the Prototype iPhone
sometimes and sometimes a bit more often there is a thought coming up my mind and (attention ironic) I dont know why, but always apple got to do with it: what if...?

... never heard of viral marketing?

waffenklang··on Ask HN: Would you go to Iraq for a year and be paid $200k?
I'd do it if I wouldn't have a family here and realise: one year. what is one year? its about to be nothing and in the end maybe you like this country get contacts there and more opportunities for more jobs, projects, whatever. And about the risk. Scientists found out that the risk of dying on a heart attack increases about 50% if you are spending more than 5 hours per day in front of a computer or tv, so what are 3% compared to 50%? Offices equal all over the world.

One year for debt free living and extra money? Yes, you can.

edit: but please keep us informed and upload pictures :D

waffenklang··on 5 Life Changing Habits
Thats right of course and even Rome wasn’t built in a day. And to be honest, I like my day there is a mixture of routine and unexpected and I think its just this what matters most, that you feel well with that.
waffenklang··on 5 Life Changing Habits
Nice points indeed, but in my humble opinion unfortunally only theoretically realisable as most of the day is spend to work for somebody else or somebody else needs. E.g. if you have a child and a full time job there is actually no room for one hour per day spent on a hobby. I wake up at 5:30 and get to work at 7:00 and until 7:00 I prepare my childs and my day and read a little news while coffeeing. I work until 6:00 (at least) and when I'm home theres I child and wife waiting for me. My day ends up at around 10 or 11. I try to eat and life healthy and try to dont rush but I can't do it by force without risking job or childs health. I'm glad that I can read a book while getting to work and have one hour at the weekend but mostly I dream to realise such rules and habits.
