pytorch @ fb. My opinions are entirely my own, and not those of my employer. I will never discuss FB technical details, internals, or anything else on this site, so please do not ask.

This is the dumbest conspiracy ever, stop propagating it.

Check out torch.compile

This is unscientific. The burden of proof is on the person making the claim.

voz_··on GigaGPT: GPT-3 sized models in 565 lines of code
If I see "import torch" in your models, is it really 565 LOC?
voz_··on The future of air defense must be smarter, more affordable, and reusable
Weapons are a good thing, in the hands of our liberal democracy. Any leg up we can get on the evil regimes of Iran, China, and Russia, along with the rest of their pathetic "axis" (self named), is a good thing.
voz_··on Altman sought billions for AI chip venture before OpenAI ouster
This is a stupid straw man. At its most generous face value, you’ve said nothing. At worst you insulted a large swath of people.

grifter alert, all the alarm bells are going off on this one
voz_··on What happens when you vectorize wide PyTorch expressions?
I spend a lot of sweat in the guards - I am very interested in how it failed! Can you say more? Did guard creation fail? or did guard check_fn perf overhead destroy it?

> One torch.compile capability I would be excited to see is compatibility with torch.vmap

We added support for torch.func.vmap, iirc - check out test_higher_order_ops.py, grep for vmap.

Pretty cool to see people using compile in the wild :)
voz_··on I face investigation for terrorism
Ahhh the find out part of fuck around and find out. Sounds like their unequivocal support for a terrorist organization didn't go so well.
voz_··on Uber migrates microservices to multi-cloud platform running Kubernetes and Mesos
Uber Microservices were such an inefficient PITA. There was buzzword soup of a bunch of half baked infra pieces and they were always migrating. Every part of the stack was rotten. Udeploy, xterra, tchannel, schemaless, etc etc.

My peak “wtf” moment was when we had a SEV because two services that should communicate actually used different versions of thrift, both hard forked by Uber, with different implementations for sets. Passing a set from one service to another caused everything to break.

voz_··on Progress on No-GIL CPython
Bad faith take.
voz_··on Meta's Fact Checking Partner, Reuters, Says No One Harmed at Festival
I reject that argument because it is a Jewish state, founded in the wake of the holocaust, attacked for being Jewish in the first days of its creation. For better or worse, It is inseparable. In fact, if you go to Palestine, they do not speak of "Israelis" but of "Jews". Spilling Jewish blood, killing Jews, a curse upon the Jews, etc. You see this with hate crime on synagogues and Jewish homes, Jewish individuals, business world wide a response to what happened in Israel and Palastine.

If your enemies do not make such a distinction, then why should you? It only obscures and confuses what is pretty clear.

voz_··on Meta's Fact Checking Partner, Reuters, Says No One Harmed at Festival
Reuters is extremely anti-semitic. They regularly down play the way Hamas stores rockets in schools and hospitals, and misappropriates aid in Gaza
voz_··on Archaeologists extract DNA of ancient Israelites
It matters because it shows that the palestinians / arabs are the colonizers. They are the ones who are seeking to displace natives.
voz_··on Archaeologists extract DNA of ancient Israelites
Jesus, a Jew, was born in the land called Israel today, well before islam even existed. Al Aqsa is a form of religious domination (building ones holy site on another, older, holy site) and the very presence of palestinians is a form of colonialism.
voz_··on Archaeologists extract DNA of ancient Israelites
Hard to move on when other people will kill you for it. Maybe the perpetrators of violence can move on first?

The amount of random wrong stuff about pytorch in this thread is pretty funny.
voz_··on How Neuralink Keeps Dead Monkey Photos Secret
Okay, you are evil. These are sentient beings, and the cold calculus here is the very nature of the banality of evil.

voz_··on Why not punish families? A challenge for consequentialists
A boring pointless rant of an article. I hate to flame but I feel a little robbed of my time for reading.
voz_··on U.S. cancels program aimed at identifying potential pandemic viruses
The vehement rejection of it out of not wanting to anger China speaks volumes to its credibility. The truth is always the opposite of what that regime says.

Nothing happened in Tiananmen Square -> We massacred pro democracy students

There is no food shortage -> There is a food shortage

We are not interning Uighers in concentration camps -> We are doing ethnic cleansing on native populations

Taiwan is not a country -> Taiwan is a fully sovereign state

So, applying that same logic, it's pretty easy to figure this one out.

On top of that, people trying to somehow decry that this is "republican" or "racist" are ignorant themselves, facts stand on their own merit, and there is nothing racist about any of these accusations. It is a pathetic appeal to partisan identity politics where there should be none.

voz_··on 37signals Introduces "Once" - Buy software one time
Spotify is, let’s say, $120 a year. After 10 years, let’s say $1200. If an album has 5 songs, and an album costs $12.00 (dunno, middle of your range plus easy math), you can buy 100 albums in that time. 500 songs.

After 500 songs for 10 years, your model costs more and offers no value (in fact, it’s less convenient for a dozen reasons)

I don’t know about you, but I listen to way more than 500 songs… a year. Let alone a decade.

voz_··on HuggingFace Training Cluster as a Service
I love this comment. Very HN. You’re absolutely right, everyone should just try to make paradigm shifts in the field.
voz_··on Some economists have been relying on bogus population data
The notion of a pre Westphalian nation is itself a little flawed, so definitionally it doesn’t even really make sense to pose the metric as such, let alone measure it.
