voidmain0001··on California farmers are struggling to sell grapes as demand for wine drops
I take your list of reasons and add empty calories to it. I’m training and want muscle mass, not a beer belly so no alcohol for me.
voidmain0001··on GPT-6 Astra
Does AGI imply a model will demonstrate morality? Will it produce white-lies when it’s beneficial to it and reject flat out lying when it knows it will get caught or harm others? Will it resolutely stick to a position despite it being a losing one?
voidmain0001··on Being ambitious and being a dad
I read it as “them” and “their” is the OP and “they’ve” are OP’s children.
voidmain0001··on Being ambitious and being a dad
Previously, when my head touched the pillow I was asleep. Two years ago I noticed that wasn’t happening and I would wake frequently through the night. I cut back my caffeine intake and my restored my sleep. Without knowing the physiological reason I assume my metabolism is slowing down and I had to alter my lifestyle to fit to it, hence my strict diet now. The calisthenics has been awesome for me. I love the progression moves to unlock skills and levelling up. Pushing weights just to stack more plates wasn’t motivation for me - cali is. It replaces my caffeine.

As for menopause, or more accurately, perimenopause, my wife has been in that for years. (She’s an old mom) She started HRT about 6 months ago and it has been amazing. She no longer wants to murder me or anyone else that irritates her.

voidmain0001··on Being ambitious and being a dad
This. I’m an old dad. I realized two years ago that to keep up with my pre-teens I had to change my lifestyle. For me that meant cutting out alcohol, not eating processed foods, avoiding sugar, reduced caffeine, way more protein and doing calisthenics. I sleep well and I have energy. I just have to keep this up for 10 more years when my youngest will be 21, then I can die. ;-)

The article indicates that the provided API key is probably a proxy to the actual so the third party is also recording all prompts made using the proxy key.
voidmain0001··on Young People Hate AI CEOs So Passionately That It's Almost Hard to Believe
I doubt any of the cited CEOs will care. “And the haters gonna hate, hate, hate, hate, hate Baby, I'm just gonna shake, shake, shake, shake, shake I shake it off, I shake it off (whoo-hoo-hoo)” - Taylor Swift.

voidmain0001··on Passkeys were invented by engineers with zero understanding of consumer brain
The use of a passkey doesn’t require Authenticator or other OTP app. Gemini said that an OTP app can be used as a vault for the passkey, but it’s not the mechanism that permits the check of the private key. Rather, that’s the PIN or biometric. Now, perhaps I don’t understand your statement and you can clarify if that’s the case.
voidmain0001··on Passkeys were invented by engineers with zero understanding of consumer brain
It just so happened that Microsoft sent an email today to our M365 tenant administrators that SMS and voice for 2FA is being removed 1-Feb-2027 and that automatic enrollment to passkeys starts 1-Sep-2026. Bring on the passkey overlords. Although, LLMs say that passkeys are superior to passwords since it includes a public/private key setup with the private key saved to a device that requires a PIN or biometric to access the private key.
voidmain0001··on Show HN: Getting GLM 5.2 running on my slow computer
The page has an SSD wear warning [0] I use desktop PCs that I build from components so I can replace the SSD, but what do users with soldered SSD do? Just avoid these applications or forge ahead disregarding the possible early burnout of their storage? They must use external storage as the burner SSD.

Why is just having the web page loaded in a browser's (Firefox) tab ramping up the iGPU on my computer to 75%? The GPU load is consistently 75% whether I'm drawing or just have an untouched web page.

MS Edge has the same behavior with GPU loading regardless of drawing or not, but the GPU is at 50%.

voidmain0001··on I indexed 669 GB of my GoPro videos using my M1 Max computer and local ML models
The question I answered was "Would Windows ARM performance be similar for those cpu?" and the answer is, no, because the RAM bandwidth for ARM SoC computers for Windows, primarily Snapdragon X1E and X2E is half to quarter that of the M1 Max.
voidmain0001··on I indexed 669 GB of my GoPro videos using my M1 Max computer and local ML models
No comparison. M1 Max has 400GB/s RAM bandwidth while Snapdragon X2 Elite, the latest and greatest , has 228GB/s RAM bandwidth.
voidmain0001··on Firewood Splitting Simulator
For everyone referring to splitting with an axe and saying it’s hard, no wonder, everyone in the know uses a maul for splitting, not an axe.

If you don’t like it then you’re not the demographic they’re targeting. Let me say that I think it’s bland but I won’t say I don’t like it. The market they’re targeting is probably young and can’t afford it but those that can afford it will buy it to appear young, as if they belong to the demographic.
voidmain0001··on Googlebook
I'll answer myself with a Reddit post that states it's not ChromeOS. https://www.reddit.com/r/chromeos/comments/1tb9xbp/this_is_g...
voidmain0001··on Googlebook
Does it use ChromeOS or Android? I read an unreliable comment in Reddit that Google may be forced to sell ChromeOS to satisfy antitrust lawsuit. The comment provided zero evidence for the conjecture.

The configuration with the AMD CPU is using the 8845HS which was released Dec-2023 whereas the configuration with the Intel CPU has the Ultra 9 285H which was released Jan-2025. Why such an old AMD CPU? The Intel has faster LPDDR5 RAM, 8400 MT/s vs 7400 MT/s.

voidmain0001··on The MacBook Neo
From work, I have a Thinkpad X1 gen 13 and it's awesome. Super lightweight, and great power. But, when I tried Linux a few months ago its hardware was still too bleeding edge. Things may be better with kernel v7 on the way. I like the Gram as a personal device so may I know what model Gram you have?
voidmain0001··on Every single board computer I tested in 2025
Yeah, my implication was that the 8th gen CPU's platform controller hub should be supported. I should have explicitly rather than implicitly stated that.
voidmain0001··on Every single board computer I tested in 2025
That laptop has an 8th gen Intel processor which should make it completely compatible with the Linux kernel, yet surprisingly it’s not. https://linux-hardware.org/?probe=2ec391ffdc Did Fujitsu choose an obscure component or interface?

You can write add-ins for Excel. I’ve used this .NET component library to build Winform apps that use the add-in interface to 13 years. Super simple and it uses the COM interface and supports all Windows Office versions.

voidmain0001··on What your Bluetooth devices reveal
Sure, stores use WiFi access points and BT to track MAC addresses and BT device IDs. Google does something similar with location and it provides in real time how busy a location is which I find super convenient. It’s a shame that shaping data into useful information also means it can weaponized.
voidmain0001··on Canada's deal with China signals it is serious about shift from US
