New Zealand is on that list.

You can sort by many things. Knowing where you sort (usually as far up the chain as possible) is important
vinger··on When Bitcoin miners take over a town (2018)
Wouldn't the same laws apply regardless of payment? If a store defrauds you or if you know who the other person is in the exchange (regardless if it's cash or bitcoin or gold).

If you don't know the other person then cash or bitcoin it wouldn't matter.

If you drop your cash it's gone. If you drop your bitcoin wallet and you backed it up you still have your bitcoin..

vinger··on When Bitcoin miners take over a town (2018)
I haven't heard about someone hacking a bitcoin wallet. I've love to hear more details. If I knew how I would try for the genesis blocks.

Can someone hack an exchange or your bank account login/password or your bank or worse setup for an account under your name no phone needed?

Permissible by whom? The one who owns the food? By the mob of 7 billion? By your own Morality?

What if you are the only one without, would the 7 billion agree the person is morally correct to steal from them?

I see them aligning with the locals and saying perhaps you should move out if you protest too much.

Groups of new people moving the local area is exactly what you hope your cheap electrical prices will bring. They create some jobs or support local store, increase real estate values, attract more supporting businesses.

The not in my backyard crowd are common in San Franisco but everywhere else welcoming new people raises all boats.

"Try and see ordinary people deal with a Bitcoin wallet and discover there's no recourse if a vulnerability in their computer means the contents are irreversibly stolen."

I lived in a period without debit and credit cards. You dropped your cash it was gone. I'm not sure not having a reversal transaction is the killer missing feature.

vinger··on How can you not be romantic about programming? (2020)
Making a file manager sounds interesting. A customer service platform not so much because I've done it before. A payroll system could be interesting.

Typing a letter and having it show up interests me.

  What interests you?
vinger··on Share of U.S. workers holding multiple jobs is rising
I hear this point a lot about the power of group purchasing. If everyone purchased their own insurance the market would be larger and be able to offer larger discounts.

Doing it at the company level doesn't make sense. Companies with larger sizes have better leverage under this model.

Would the purchasing power be greater at the state level or federal level?

vinger··on The 'GaaS or subscription service' squeeze in games
Yes.. because a need would exist for someone to tackle.
vinger··on I am a heroin user. I do not have a drug problem
The effects can last a lifetime but saying any narcotic will last for at least 72 hours doesn't take into consideration dose, weight, history isn't even closely true.

Did you know eating a poppyseed bagel will cause a positive for heroin for upto 60 hours afterwards while doing a small amount of heroin will not show up on that same test.

vinger··on I am a heroin user. I do not have a drug problem
It is not because it affects their job performance it is because the test they use can't measure if things were done a minute ago or 3 weeks ago.
vinger··on There’s no such thing as “a startup within a big company”
Another point. If you are outside of SV / California your startup payouts are generally very small.

vinger··on Bitcoin surpasses $50K as major companies jump into crypto
I feel safer with bitcoin. The reasons for it to exist are more solid than if Musk's helicopter goes down tomorrow.
vinger··on How this Ends
Your average middle class developer is not an angel investor and the opportunies in an average person network would be too risky.

Lose everything but make a friend and some knowledge is a win for you but not your average developer.

Staying with index funds. They give the safest upside with the safest downside.

An OS doesn't ship with internet access. You may get internet as a separate service later and connect it to your computer which has an OS.

I'm not sure you understand the market. If saving to the cloud is a must have feature your game will provide it. Ditto for multiplayer. No one is refusing to play a game because the platform you purchased the game on doesn't have an easy help button.

vinger··on Changes to sharing and viewing news on Facebook in Australia
A group of people want to control what websites your friends are sharing.
vinger··on Epic Games steps up Apple fight with EU antitrust complaint
None of those sounds like a very bad user experience. A very bad experience is games disppearing different games appearing after purchasing something else, games not working, memory usage too high..etc

No user reviews, no easy help button for noobs, no cloud save, only recently got achievements, can't crush a friends party. all sound like little nice to haves that don't add much value. Does it allow me to find/play the game? Everything else takes time away from playing.

vinger··on Bitcoin surpasses $50K as major companies jump into crypto
If you bought 11 months ago at 5,000 you would have made 10x cashing out today. It's never too late to buy in and if so there are other coins.
vinger··on What I Worked On
If developer numbers go down the need for QA reduces. QA jobs are a proxy for developer roles.
vinger··on Photographer Sues Kat Von D over Miles Davis Tattoo
Money is the author's goal. More work from author is society's goal.
vinger··on Photographer Sues Kat Von D over Miles Davis Tattoo
I thought we all could agree nothing is clear cut here. Courts will be involved and laws defined in a long expensive process.
vinger··on Munchausen Syndrome by Recruiter
Gladwell the author talked about this in terms of real estate agents.

An extra 5% on $100k to you is $5000 but for the agent it's $250. They are not aligned to get the best price.

It doesn't mean they won't try hard but keep in mind $5000 means more to you than 250 will to a company.

vinger··on Munchausen Syndrome by Recruiter
Without sports type contracts where you can get released but you still get paid until a set date the risk shifts to the employees and increases employer leverage (hiring is cheap) thus driving down salary and stability.
vinger··on Munchausen Syndrome by Recruiter
They call you and sell you. Once your sold now you go into a bundle who the employer gets to pick from.

The selling you part.. and possible hyping you up.
