Deplatforming anyone is foolish. Anyone who thinks otherwise will be deplatformed.

I remember all of the late night movies with breasts showing.

It's a little scary they are all gone from tv.

Back then you could see some hardcore stuff at the corner store if you reached up to the nudity mags.

I remember the nudity cards.. the older ones where the women had hair everywhere.

Kinda of sad everything is repressed to a point where nothing is shown anymore but people are still worried that nudity and sex will jump out at your kids and scare them.

Montgomery has bars and they have liquor stores.

Utah did requires a membership in a gentlemen club to drink in a public place. Perhaps this has changed.

You can't buy beer in grocery stores in every province in Canada either. But the amount of alcohol in beer is double the US.

Beer in grocery stores is a poor proxy for dem / rep

vinger··on The Importance of Learning CSS
Adam's success is a podcast success story. The patience required to slowly build up an audience by creating daily videos/postcasts that incrementally built an application or framework.

Adam had success time and again but he always builds profits and abandons. PHP without loops, test driven laravel are two other successful audiences that were built, sold to and abandon. He has seemed to move on from refactoring ui.

It has been a year+ since Tailwinds has been released. How much longer before Adam jumps to the next thing?

I think it's important and may explain a lot. The fact that they started looking into this is a good sign.

I've always wondered what the slowdown with having chrome or not was and this could explain it.

There was a recent story about repl hiring process where they preferred inexperienced developers. Not surprised key things were missed.

Those companies are usually listed on the nasdaq like shopify.

The whole hardware hi tech industry has moved to China. The Avro wasn't going to change this. It is not like building planes is a great business either currently.

vinger··on House cancels Thursday session as FBI, Homeland Security warn of Capitol threat
It doesn't exactly say that. It talks about the shift in percentage between international and local. Which makes sense considering the height of terrorism internationally has been dropping since Osama was caught.
vinger··on Piracy is not theft, Lost sales don't exist, says Minecraft creator (2011)
A bootleg of a music show done in your city gets created. It get's passed on to friends who love it. Someone sells a copy to a friend of a friend.

There is profitting off from the bootleg. There is a benefit to the orginal band (new fans to buy official releases). The world is better off (think of how many bootleg Dylan recordings wouldn't exist, lost to time)

Things can start off as #1 and move into #2 but it doesn't have to be negative.

I've seen an interview with the EA guys who say they would rather you pirate their product over someone's elses.
vinger··on Brave buys a search engine, promises no tracking, no profiling
The credit card company is the one selling your relationships and purchase habits and they know exactly who you are and can connect you to everything else important in your life.
vinger··on Brave buys a search engine, promises no tracking, no profiling
Now you have to trust privacy.com and still worry about the others.
vinger··on Brave buys a search engine, promises no tracking, no profiling
But paying for a service connects your real world credit profile to this transaction. I feel privacy is already broken with the credit card companies selling this information.

When someone tracks you and you don't pay they will try to link your online activities and identify other activities online to tailor an ad to you.

I can confuse and lie to the second group but I can't hide from the first group.

Anything that requires you to pay by credit card means you are already being tracked. For privacy I'm against pay services.

vinger··on Ask HN: Should I pass on a new job because they want me to sign a non-compete?
That's fair. I would go work for a competitor and not feel less honorable because I know that company would hire someone from the very same company I now work at and not feel they have done anything wrong.

When you are fighting a power inbalance guile is a very effective tool and nobel trait.

vinger··on On the Experience of Being Poor-Ish, for People Who Aren't
If society agrees to give $100 to the military you have no say in how they spend it.

If society agrees to give $100 to Steve then you have no say in how that move is spent.

If you think it's better not to give to Steve anything and you lobby to change the law and are successful. When Andre is affected by this change he decides to make up the difference by breaking into your place and killing you. At least Steve doesn't have his hookers right?

vinger··on Ask HN: Should I pass on a new job because they want me to sign a non-compete?
In your opinion the main purpose of a contract is a memory aid?

Why bother signing them?

vinger··on Ask HN: Should I pass on a new job because they want me to sign a non-compete?
The entire point of a contract is to have a document that can be brought to civil court.

If you and your employer don't feel you need one and can rely on ethics alone why sign?

I think the reason why companies want you sign one is because in the event of you leaving, companies can't enforce a word of mouth agreement in court.

Whatever is in your contract is what you agreed to but local laws might superseed your agreement. This doesn't make you amoral if you don't educate a company on local laws. This is solely the company's responsibility.

You get no hero points and your family is not better off. Telling a company their contract is not legal can be seen as a little rude and could give you a bad reputation.
