It paused? lol https://tradingeconomics.com/commodity/nickel
This is such a fragile time after 2 years of COVID for the global economy. Even the Belt and Road countries being dragged down with Russia can't be worth it to them.
Not to mention they have their own economic/banking issues that they were probably hoping for a strong global recovery to help out with.
"Coke can't get paid so suspending business in Russia"
I think the character limit creates a blunt form of communication that leads to this toxic environment. It is practically designed to create misunderstandings and dismissive short responses to those misunderstandings.
I have never seen anything like that.
I have been on internet dates for almost 25 years now and I could even tell how interest in me would go down when I gained weight and then interest would come back massively after a diet.
Age though has caught up with me that I don't bother with apps much anymore. Just talking to people randomly in person is just so much better. It has really never been easier to show confidence. Just talking does the job now.
Who cares about the long term though? All that matters is what we can tweet about this afternoon.
Least surprising thing ever.
The future dictionary definition of cutting off our nose to spite our face but banning Russian oil will make Twitter happy for the next 8-12 hours until the next move with zero thought given to the long term consequences.
China might be our only hope to avoid WW3. It was just a few days ago that banning Russian oil was not going to happen but Twitter gets what it wants in 2022. Twitter wants a no fly zone and WW3.
Doesn't seem to be any indication that the markets will open tomorrow.
Nickel market is completely dislocated now https://tradingeconomics.com/commodity/nickel
Who knows how that will reverberate.
It is not like if you see ambition as something less than a moral good you will no longer get anything done. You will just turn off this useless modeling of future events in your head.
I suspect in our culture, ambition causes nothing but useless pain and is counter productive at the average as people model their future life up to these highly improbable lottery winning situations.
Climbing Mount Everest is really the best metaphor. Massive risk for basically no reward. The whole idea is objectively stupid but seen as some great accomplishment in our culture.
Even if you own an EV yourself these gas prices could hurt you. Converting from hydrocarbons is going to take decades.
Pretending the economy doesn't run on oil and gas is just counter productive in general. Basically, we will pretend until things have gone too far and then we will do what we would have done anyway.
Morally, I don't think judgement can be passed on drivers until there are EV models that undercut budget unleaded models.
"Just learn to code and buy a Tesla" is not an answer to our problems.
The main thing is it is nice to get away from the main phone on a trip and enjoy the trip. Losing it would not be the end of the world.
All these other aspects you get for free.
I would give anything to go back to usenet and that everything would be taken with a grain of salt because it is usenet.
That is never going to happen though. We are society of automatons now who have mostly outsourced their thinking to the mob/group mind of social media.
If you read Le Bon or Freud's work on group psychology it may as well be talking about social media in 2022.
"The feelings of the group are always very simple and very exaggerated. So that the group knows neither doubt nor uncertainty. It goes directly to extremes, if a suspicion is expressed, it is instantly changed into an incontrovertible certainty."
He has had all the time in the world to insulate himself and plan exactly for that situation. I bet he doesn't even come in contact in person with anyone he doesn't know from the Soviet days at this point and the people he does are probably guilty of all kinds of things themselves if Putin was done away with.
No one is going to listen now.
Not to mention the die has been cast already.
There is an article in the Atlantic how this could cause a depression in Tajikistan.
This couldn't possibly be at a more fragile global economic time either after 2 years of COVID.
The economic damage of this is not going to be isolated to Russia. We have practically injected the global economy with an unknown economic poison and we have no idea what it is going to do or how far it will spread.
Getting your ass kissed all day can not feel the same remote as in person.
You can't replicate remotely the feeling of taking the elevator to your office with everyone you pass on the way knowing you are a big deal in the company.
This is all about "collaboration", wink wink.
The ruble took another massive hit again last night. Any Russian financial company is probably already wiped out.
I wouldn't be shocked if the market doesn't open next week, it is not reopening and everything is going to have to be nationalized.
We have never seen this before with a modern economy. In the 1929 market crash 25% of the US population were still farmers. Russia is 5% farmers. Most people are directly exposed to the fragility of the modern economy.
To me, that James Gleick book had massive negative value. It branded the important fields of dynamics and complex systems as "chaos" and fractals.
We have probably lost a whole generation of research in these fields from not being taken seriously because no one wants a PhD in "chaos".
