vasdae··on M3 MacBook Pro: Base Model Has Only 8GB RAM
I have a laptop computer with 8 GB and it's fine. Obviously it's rubbish to sell a laptop with 8 GB nowadays for that price, but let's not pretend it's unusable.
vasdae··on Flies neglect food and endure shocks to seek a dopamine reward
What kind of electric shock can you give a fly without killing it? Also where do you plug the contacts?
vasdae··on A Grand Theft Auto III Re-Implementation
I have played the DE version of GTA 3 (in fact I just finished) and it wasn't nearly as bad as they make it out to be. In fact I would say it's a better experience than the originals for those who haven't played them. Of all the bugs I've experienced, almost all of them were in the original release, which I played extensively.

It's best to ignore youtubers and generally disagreeable nerds from reddit and all those places. They feed on hate.

vasdae··on Windows 11 adds native support for RAR, 7-Zip, Tar and other archive formats
The other day I opened a big tar file (which doesn't have an index, and therefore requires a full scan of the file in order to show a file list) with Windows Explorer and the Explorer window simply froze for minutes.

(Correction: as a child comment says, it was gzipped tar, not plain tar)

vasdae··on Israel was removed from Baidu Maps earlier today
It's what I've thought for a long time. I don't mean that we should provoke it, in fact we should steer clear, but they are both enemies of the West, so I wouldn't shed a tear.
vasdae··on Israel was removed from Baidu Maps earlier today
By right-leaning I guess you mean neocon. I am right-leaning myself and my point of view is that we shouldn't interfere and that if both countries disappear it may be for the best.
vasdae··on German court prohibits LinkedIn from ignoring "Do Not Track" signals
That part with the "individual freedoms" is laughable. We lack most of those, especially if they conflict with the "human rights" part.
vasdae··on German court prohibits LinkedIn from ignoring "Do Not Track" signals
What are those "European values" you speak of? I am in Europe and I shiver at the thought of others assuming that I feel the same way about certain issues than someone who lives all the way across the continent.

You are asking why subcontracting exists.

Which will make the managers bully them until they leave.
vasdae··on Tesla union strike fails in Sweden as workers refused to walk out
Of course you can fire them, as long as you can afford it.
vasdae··on An AI firm harvested billions of photos without consent. UK is powerless to act
>The New York Times reported in 2020 that Clearview AI had harvested billions of social media images without users’ consent.

You need users' consent to take public pictures from the internet? That's bonkers.

vasdae··on Xbox's new policy – say goodbye to unofficial accessories from November
Yes, it would be really easy. You "just" have to be able to buy thousands of official controllers and solder a microcontroller on them. And then resell them. Without getting sued.

Or teach people to solder the microcontroller themselves.

Yes, there will always people cheating no matter what. But as long as you reduce their numbers substantially, it is worth it.

vasdae··on Xbox's new policy – say goodbye to unofficial accessories from November
Valve's anticheat is atrocious, Counter-Strike is an absolute cesspool (so much that they've had to separate players who bought the game from players who play the free version), and Team Fortress 2 has had more bots than players for like 10 years now.

This seems like the kind of thing that is repeated so much because some people want to believe it, and most of the time I bet it's people who haven't played a Valve multiplayer game ever.

vasdae··on New signs appear to ban phones from Temple Quay
"anytime" means "at any time". Saying "at anytime" would be like saying "at at any time"

Hasn't still happened with Windows 7.
vasdae··on Killing Windows 10 in 2025 could turn PCs into eWaste
No it couldn't. Windows will continue to work even after no more updates are available.
vasdae··on 400M PCs can't run Win 11: PIRG petitions Microsoft to extend Win 10 life
I had a 4790K which was vulnerable to basically everything and while I'm sure the patches had a noticeable impact in benchmarks I couldn't notice much during regular use. So yes, I blame Microsoft.
