valbaca··on Upgrading Homebrew and avoiding the "failed to verify attestation" error
> I want every package to ship with all dependencies inside.

Stopping where? python? c libraries? glibc? the kernel?

"all the dependencies" isn't what you think it is

> 2. homebrew often wants to install things I already have, like python.

oh yeah "python" like it's just A Thing You have. nothing has versions and of course every version can execute every code that's ever been written, past and future.

> I don't understand why things are made harder than they should be.

You're just willfully ignoring or not understanding the complexities.

valbaca··on Zod: TypeScript-first schema validation with static type inference
yep.

Typescript is build-time validation, but in the end TS is "just JS"

Zod provides runtime validation (and also works well with TS)

valbaca··on ScanOSS spams OSS projects for using profanity
> These same individuals have made comments that range from violating the code of conduct of an open project to falsifying information, impersonation, and even extortion

What the actual fuck.

If someone is doing ACTUAL crimes like that you report them to the real authorities. And not open a GitHub Issue.

But we know they’re not actually doing those things are anything like it. They have four letter words in their code and you’re insane.

You just opened this account, either fake or you’re an actual SCANOSS employee, to try to damage control against your boss’s goofy scanner that embarrassed him.

No, we prefer single-player games that also have couch-coop but couch-coop games died.

valbaca··on Ask HN: Did you personal website help you get hired? Tell about it
Just write. It might come up. My personal blog came up in several of my interviews as they will likely at least Google your name.

valbaca··on Ask HN: Is it just me, or does the job market for IT seem bad today?
Please send those my way!

I have worked on mobile app (iOS and Android) and done full-stack web and app development.

When I apply for places the recruiter literally cannot fathom this "Um. So...Are you frontend or backend?" Both. "...But which one" BOTH "Which do you prefer?" I prefer a company that can handle the concept of someone who can and HAS done it all.

valbaca··on Ask HN: What are you passionate about at the moment?
Building my Tyranid army in Warhammer 40k

A good buddy of mine had been itching to get back into the hobby that he played as a teen but I wasn't interested in it. Until I got the Ultimate Starter Box from my game store as it was basically calling out to me.

It's been an incredibly fun (and yes, expensive) hobby.

The people are great, especially in my local area they're suuuper friendly and welcoming to new people. They want cool people to play with and enjoy the hobby with so there's little gatekeeping that I've actually run into.

Learning new skills (assembly, priming, painting) and learning the rules has been really fun as well.

My passion for coding has been at an all time low, so it's good to have something to channel my passion into.

valbaca··on 'Couple,' 'Few,' and 'Several'
It's not even a consistently American thing.

I (from Texas) use "couple" to mean two-ish-or-more whereas my wife (from New Mexico) uses couple to mean exactly two.

I use "couple" to (roughly) mean "just enough in small amounts" like:

- just a couple more minutes (obviously doesn't mean 2 minutes and 0 seconds)

- grab a couple of glasses (probably two unless there are three people)

- buy a couple of things (I'm making a short trip for a small number of things)

For those decrying using imprecise language, it's because these are scenarios where enumerating would give an incorrect level of precision.
