uxjw··on Cloudflare Quick Tunnels
Probably why they used the trycloudflare.com domain as they expect it to be blocked.
uxjw··on Chatto is now Open Source
Yeah its unfortunate there's an AI app on the apple store with the same name
uxjw··on The Pirate Bay Remains Resilient, 20 Years After the Raid
I've had movies I've "bought" disappear from the Apple account. I guess they lost the license and I'm supposed to download all purchases and manually copy between devices. I contacted Apple and they offered a free rental as compensation. "Buy" doesn't mean the same on these streaming platforms, its just a longer-term rental.
uxjw··on Some kids are bypassing age verification checks with a fake mustache
Or it could give regulators an excuse to come out with more big brother tech if age verification isn't up to par
uxjw··on How far behind is each major Chromium browser?
The most recent updates says it includes the 147 security fixes too "[Chromium] Update to 146.0.7680.218 ESR (includes security fixes from 147.0.7727.137/138)" https://vivaldi.com/blog/desktop/minor-update-eight-7-9/
uxjw··on Notion leaks email addresses of all editors of any public page
It loves to hog disk space for some reason. An hour after installing, service workers are using 7gb. I have very few files uploaded so I don’t know what it’s caching.
uxjw··on Categorization Is 'Baked' into the Brain
Found more info about this article at https://picower.mit.edu/news/complete-rethinking-how-our-bra... and https://neurosciencenews.com/predictive-brain-categorization...
uxjw··on “Your frustration is the product”
I'm using Brave and Vivaldi - still the same chromium engine as Google's Chrome but both support ublock origin for now.
uxjw··on iOS 27 'Rave' Update to Clean Up Code, Could Boost Battery Life
Less than a month after Microsoft announcing this for Windows https://www.theverge.com/tech/870045/microsoft-windows-11-is...
uxjw··on Weight loss jabs: What happens when you stop taking them
Yes, the cheap engineered "foods" don't help, and they're everywhere. This part of the article really hit home:

> He is worried that without additional support for people making the transition, society's unhealthy relationship with food means little will change.

> "The environment that people live in needs to be one that promotes health, not weight gain.

Also generic versions of Ozempic are coming to Canada soon: https://www.cbc.ca/news/health/ozempic-generic-canada-weight...

uxjw··on The effect of shingles vaccination at different stages of dementia
I'm 42 in Canada and just got the first shot yesterday. Doctor prescribed it because I'm getting psoriasis and I guess that puts you at a higher risk of developing shingles. With the prescription, it was fully covered.
uxjw··on uBlock Origin Lite in Apple App Store
Meta uses the in app browsers to inject trackers on every site you visit. https://krausefx.com//blog/ios-privacy-instagram-and-faceboo...

Probably others doing the same. I always open pages in full safari and use NextDns to block trackers in all apps.

uxjw··on Building Bluesky comments for my blog
ActivityPub for Wordpress just posted about a bridge with Bluesky https://activitypub.blog/2025/08/07/bridging-the-gap/
uxjw··on A valid HTML zip bomb
Cloudflare has free AI Labyrinths if your goal is to target AI. The bots follow hidden links to a maze of unrelated content, and Cloudflare uses this to identify bots. https://blog.cloudflare.com/ai-labyrinth/
uxjw··on Why do all browsers' user agents start with "Mozilla/"? (2008)
TL;DR: Some code looking for Windows 95 or 98 only looked for "Windows 9" to match both, and would have matched Windows 9.

Now Apple has the year in the OS version we'll have people wondering in a few years what happened to iOS 19-25.

uxjw··on The truth about soft plastic recycling points at supermarkets
Even if you buy aluminium cans, there's a thin layer of plastic lining to prevent reactions with the metal. I've also noticed lots of paper/cardboard packaging have a plastic coating.
uxjw··on CERN scientists find evidence of quantum entanglement in sheep
They have had spherical chickens in a vacuum
uxjw··on Adding Mastodon Comments to Your Blog
I found this similar project recently as well: https://danielpecos.com/2022/12/25/mastodon-as-comment-syste...

uxjw··on FTC takes action against GoDaddy for alleged lax data security
I've had some registrars lock the domain from transferring for a few weeks after changing whois.

uxjw··on Apple will pay $95M to settle Siri privacy lawsuit
Accidentally recording is one thing, but I haven't been able to find much on how the recordings were sold for targeted advertising.

Found this in another article about the settlement at https://appleinsider.com/articles/25/01/02/apple-agrees-to-9...:

"Some plaintiffs claimed that discussions of products such as Air Jordan and Olive Garden restaurants prompted ads to be served for those products. However, Apple's privacy systems would prevent such targeted advertising to occur based on recordings from Siri specifically."

uxjw··on Grayjay Desktop App
Seems similar to the updated Reeder app for mac/iOS. Its an RSS reeder that now works with Youtube channels, Reddit subreddits, Bluesky, Flickr, etc. https://reeder.app/
uxjw··on Cops suspect iOS 18 iPhones are communicating to force reboots
Maybe designed to help with anti-theft? I already use a shortcut automation when airplane mode is turned on to lock my phone and turn off airplane mode, as that’s the first thing thieves would do.
uxjw··on Google pulls the plug on uBlock Origin
I’ve been using Brave since Google announced they were going to do this. Blocking is built in and they support ublock origin with manifest v2 “for now” https://brave.com/blog/brave-shields-manifest-v3/
uxjw··on Palm OS and the devices that ran it
I loved the Clié for the built-in camera. Not sure that the quality was much better than the old Sony cameras with built-in floppy disk drives though.
uxjw··on 50 Years Later, This Apollo-Era Antenna Still Talks to Voyager 2
Looks really interesting. Found it free to stream on Plex: https://l.plex.tv/mR6jp
uxjw··on Smishing scam regarding debt for road toll services
