uxhacker··on The problem is not AI code, but not knowing about system architecture or intent
So AI is already in control with humans just rubber stamping the output?
uxhacker··on Tells of a Slop UI
So what is the best way of stopping this to happen?

I am doing some experiments in forcing the LLM to use a process.

Start with a brand guidelines, followed by building wireframes, followed by merging the two together.

Think of it like chain of thought but for something visual.

uxhacker··on US Military disables ad trackers amid concerns over troops' safety
What is amazing is how long it has taken them to realize that this is a serious security threat, especially as Strava exposed the issue of devices tracking service people all the way back in 2018.
uxhacker··on The AI Takeover Checklist: A Devil's Advocate Audit
Some people are already controlled by Large Language Models, as they are so reliant on them, and blindly follow the LLM’s advice

So maybe we become the Robots AI controls?

Edited for clarity

uxhacker··on AI Can Make You Suck Faster Too
Is the issue that nobody has come up with the idea for the great ground breaking ideas?

Or B that the ideas are there but are not get released as the code is ai slop?

uxhacker··on 'Mad honey' that can stop your heart is being sold online
But the risk is actually more broad than the article points out. Any honey where enough of the nectar comes from rhododendrons could be dangerous.

Grayanotoxin containing Rhododendron occur not just in Nepal, but in Turkey, North America, and Europe.

I think there are other plants that the bees concentrate the toxins of.

uxhacker··on 'Mad honey' that can stop your heart is being sold online
I know of rhododendron honey from killing Pompey’s army in around 60bc.
uxhacker··on Iceland rejects reopening talks on EU entry
And not just city versus countryside, but the people most likely to benefit voting against.

The EU needs to get better at marketing it self.

uxhacker··on Iceland rejects reopening talks on EU entry
One benefit would have been that Iceland would have got to vote on EU Single Market legislation, which it currently has to incorporate into its laws without any say.

Iceland would also benefit from trade deals with non EU countries (currently it is excluded).

It also would have joined the Agricultural policy, which would have meant better access for its farm produce.

uxhacker··on Iceland rejects reopening talks on EU entry
The vote was for negotiations and not actually joining. Presumably there would have been another vote on joining the EU later.

The telling sign is that the capital Reykjavík voted in favor of negotiations, but rural areas voted against.

uxhacker··on Was modern art a CIA psy-op? (2020)
And the CIA actually had rather good taste
uxhacker··on How Europe is killing makers and micro-entrepreneurs
What is amazing is that this goes so much against the concept of the EU. The EU was founded on the principles of four freedoms, Free movement of goods, Free movement of persons, Freedom to provide services, and Free movement of capital.

The EU even have a SME Test to maker sure small business are not overburdened by regulations.

Also there are thousands of lobbyists fighting for small businesses. Yes, this law will probably eventually be thrown out for small businesses but after how many years is a big question, and how many small businesses have lost there businesses.

And the law was devised by Ripa di Meana, who had been a member of the Italian Communist Party and the green party.

uxhacker··on Marketers are Addicted to Bad Data (2020)
You competitors?
uxhacker··on No one can afford to make Myst games anymore
But the original game was very playable and fun. There are plenty of modern games that only have a tiny bit more game play.
uxhacker··on No one can afford to make Myst games anymore
I think out of the original team there where only 1 and half developers.
uxhacker··on No one can afford to make Myst games anymore
What the article misses is that the first game was made by just roughly 6 people on the development team.

What has happened is the number of people working on games has become ridiculously large.

uxhacker··on What is a product?
I hate the ‘product’ word. In the 90’s I was involved in a travel startup, and the software people would be talking about ‘product’ meaning the website that we where building, and the travel people meant what we where offering in the way of hotels, insurance, flights and excursions.

The word ‘product just left everyone confused.

If one uses a word like platform, application, prototype, offering, ‘products’ this makes it clearer than just the generic ‘product’. It’s even better if goal is applied as well. For example Flight finder Application, or Video Playback Platform.

uxhacker··on Third Drone Shot Down in Three Days in Romanian Territory
Ukraine is using old training aircraft with a guy with a shotgun in the back shooting the drones down.

Just think the small Cessnas and pipers littered around that could be used for a similar task.

uxhacker··on Why this philosopher turned down Anthropic
The author states that he did not join because he did not believe he would have influenced them.

I feel from reading this that Anthropic would benefit from the work of the Nobel Laureate Herb Simon and his book the Philosophy of the Artificial.

So Simon argues that whilst traditional Meta Physics is about physical properties, with artificial creations it is different, what they do is more important than how they are made.

It more important that a watch tells the time than that it contains cogs and crystals.

A computer is defined not by the silicon that it made of but by the software it runs.

So with AI what is important is its function. We don’t need understand how the neurons are wired together

uxhacker··on Map of the world's great castles and fortresses
It is also important in context to include castles in Africa to show that the area did contain castles. This fact often surprises people that Africa has castles and some of them dating back to the 11 century.

For example just by looking from my eye you are missing Lamu Castle https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lamu_Fort Siyu Fort https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Siyu Thimlich Ohingahttps://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Thimlich_Ohinga

And then in Tanzania you have the Gerezani Fort in Kilwa Kisiwani, the Old Fort of Zanzibar, the German Fort in Bagamoyo. And then Taleh Fort in Somalia.

I have not even started on either Mozambique, or Angola.

uxhacker··on Map of the world's great castles and fortresses
The importance of the definition is to actually save the castles. For example in Lower Silesia in Poland, which was Germany, and Czech before, there where about 2000 Castles (Schloss's). Now many of these castles lay in ruins. By only including the popular ones like this map does it means the less famous ones will become even less popular, and a piece of history will disappear.
uxhacker··on Dupes took over the world
That was exactly the point. The fame came from the number of copies of the painting.

Some people say brands like Gucci became more famous because of the number copies made.

uxhacker··on Dupes took over the world
But as the Frankfurt School Famously said about the Mona Lisa that the copies make the original. In other words the copies give the original all the publicity to make it famous.
uxhacker··on Is this the end of the once-mighty GoPro?
Is this because of the cost of memory or because the product is no longer competitive?
uxhacker··on Shooting Starlink: The "no limits" partnership between Russia and China
So they can be disabled from the ground? Why has russia not thought of that? Is that why Starlink is actually concerned about them been used by Ukraine?
uxhacker··on Shooting Starlink: The "no limits" partnership between Russia and China
I wonder if the us has a means of protecting the Starlink satellites?
uxhacker··on Shooting Starlink: The "no limits" partnership between Russia and China

uxhacker··on American A.I. Companies Say Chinese Copycats Are Quickly Catching Up
Basically the article is arguing that distillation is a moat leak from USA to China.

But what surprises me is that the frontier labs can’t detect the Chinese making the distillation attempts?

uxhacker··on Programmers need to start meditating
It’s not just that. Working with multiple agents and tasks switching will increase cognitive load significantly leading to both poor decision making and increased stress.
