uneoneuno··on AI companies in race to demonstrate their model most threatening to humanity
What about the waves of employees quitting both OAI and anthropic stating as their reason that they see their work as a direct threat to the future of humanity, and that their management isn't taking it seriously enough. Is that a PR stunt too?
uneoneuno··on Reverse engineering my e-scooter and rewriting the firmware in Rust
I've got a happy run G300 pro that has a controller I've been considering digging into. It doesn't seem tuned to the motor. This is great inspiration to start digging in. It actually seems a bit clever to use the USB pins as a CAN bus
uneoneuno··on 216M Spy TVs – The LG Smart TV Problem [video]
Have you noticed that on many home routers there is now a default open, sometimes password protective network named AT&T or Cox Wi-Fi? That’s the backhaul. The TV will join that automatically without asking you because they have an agreement with the network provider. This is how tons of devices phone home now. You don’t ever need to add a device on your network for it to have internet. If there’s a partner Wi-Fi network anywhere, it’ll push through that.

Yeah but the accountant, the product manager, the graphics designer, the engineer, the doctor, the lawyer are fucked.

Good thing we have plumbers. But who’s gonna have money to pay a plumber if nobody has jobs?

uneoneuno··on Rethinking legal education in the AI era
It is clear by how you're talking you may not be a 'lawyer' but your exposure to building and handling your case (very cool with AI I agree) has clearly elevated your lawfare knowledge above average levels.
uneoneuno··on Writing by hand is good for your brain
That's really cool. I read Lincoln when I was around 18 and it has always stuck with me. The books you read become a part of you; they grow your view of the world. Books are the only way we have to capture the experience or mind of another person, and directly transfer not only their words but almost a sliver of the authors soul directly to others. Movies, sure.. But books hook into the imagination and mind.

Why don't people run their AI on their car? Two birds, one fragglerock.
uneoneuno··on US private credit defaults hit record 9.2% in 2025, Fitch says
You're not wrong it's always good to have cash but certain allocations could have done 50%-100% return on investment while a CD brought ~5.5% for a while. Look at S&P since 2021. Knowing when to transition from cash, liquidity, other instruments is what kills/allows people to survive. We can't all do the same thing, it's almost as if it's economic ecological evolution, random death.

You have to be smart enough to know how to prompt and how to iterate on the LLM response. If you can't use the tool effectively, you're gonna get bad results.

I'm in my mid 30's, well into my professional career as an engineer.

I frequently use gpt to tune / tweak / see if I am missing anything in proposals and other documents I create. I'll give GPT a broad idea of what I'm writing and ask for bullet points, then review what it came up with and compare to what I've written. It almost always makes my output better - I find there's some customer disclaimer or other scope clarification that the gpt came up with that I incorporate into my document.

Asking GPT to make you something or "do your essay" wont work. You have to know enough about the thing you want out of it in order to be able to ask GPT for it.

So yes, the people who know things and know how to use a LLM are going to have more polished outputs. Most other people just plugging and chugging get junk or uninspired goop.

I got a crappy 25 year old Kodak that takes 110 cartridge film at a thrift store for $5. Those 24 pictures seem more real than the 1000's on my phone. Remembering where you take them is cool

Also changes eye shape over time, causing vision issues, etc.. Longer you're up there the more starts to go wrong. We were built to fight off gravity. I think its worth considering that it may be fundamentally impossible for humans to reproduce/gestate babies/live entire lifetimes/generations in low gravity conditions.

uneoneuno··on ChatGPT for Teams
I've been playing around with the assistant stuff and adding !expert to my searches to see what the LLM spits out first as a quick check. I'd love if I could get my custom assistant to work - sounds like a lot of fun to be had there.
uneoneuno··on Who makes the most reliable new cars?
My 1989 Bronco II has a computer ignition system. Even an OBDI diagnostic capability. You can count the pulses and it tells you the error code. It still works fine. Most brands of cars were using solid state computers at least in some capacity like this since the late 1970s

uneoneuno··on Photos capture life inside a drop of seawater
I used to do species population spot-check counts of the aeration basin floc thru a crappy optical scope back in the day at the municipal wastewater plant. I loved finding the tardigrades occasionally and watched them for ages.

I got some good laughs here - what a great story. I can't believe how timeless certain things are.
uneoneuno··on Be good-argument-driven, not data-driven
I feel like the author is leaning into comfort, intuitiveness. You bring up a fantastic point. Often we find data reveals things very unintuitive to human experience. We should always try to make Good Arguments - but without data they aren't always honest beyond feelings.

uneoneuno··on I think US college education is nearer to collapsing than it appears
I think it's a great idea because it challenges the status-quo idea of what college has to be. We can agree 18 year olds can bring fresh ideas - they are much closer to the cultural future and more agile on any new technology. An 18 will see things elders won't and they have a TON of energy. But 18s aren't typically 'wise' by making all the mistakes you make over decades to learn from. At any age we all need role models outside of our peers to stay maximally effective. The experience of a 40 year old in the mix of 18s is INVALUABLE. Teams should almost always be multi-generational or they can become myopic. A multi-gen team will make better products than a team of 50-60 year olds alone or a team of 18 year olds alone
