underseacables··on Yi Peng 3 crossed both cables C-Lion 1 and BSC at times matching when they broke
In his first administration he engaged directly with North Korea which has been widely regarded as a Chinese puppet state. The last thing China wants, in my opinion, is a united and free Korea.
underseacables··on Yi Peng 3 crossed both cables C-Lion 1 and BSC at times matching when they broke
I don't know if the evidence is conclusive, but I do think we can say China is supplying Russia with military hardware and supporting them in other ways. So.. it's possible.
underseacables··on Don't sit on the toilet for more than 10 minutes, doctors warn
I have never seen a public bidet anywhere in America, and I've traveled quite a bit. Are they more popular in certain areas?
underseacables··on Scientific American's departing editor and the politicization of science
I grew up believing that science was the search for truth and fact, and that it should be constantly challenged to further that. What has happened I think, is that there has been a great polarization of science as government and groups have used and twisted it to fit a political agenda. Which essentially stops that search for truth. Challenging scientific conclusions should be encouraged not cancelled.
underseacables··on Valve developers discuss why Half Life 2: Episode 3 was abandoned
Maybe it's nostalgia but I would absolutely pay for a new Half Life. I would like to see the story completed.
underseacables··on The withering dream of a cheap American electric car
I love Aptera! I just don't think it's ever going to take off. There's just not enough investment and demand. It looks ridiculous but it's an awesome concept of aerodynamics.
underseacables··on Silicon Valley got what it wanted
That's a difficult question to an answer. The employees of those companies were most if not entirely anti-Trump, so, if the CEO was pro Trump, then they may not have want to say anything in fear of upsetting the employees.
underseacables··on FBI Raids Home of Polymarket CEO Shayne Coplan
We clearly don't have enough information about what went down, but betting on political outcomes should be legal. In my opinion, at least. If you can bet on a sports game, you should be allowed to bet on an election.
underseacables··on FBI Raids Home of Polymarket CEO Shayne Coplan
I think the key factor here is that the website allowed Americans to bet on the political market. Which I still don't quite understand, the FBI waiting until after the election for this. Why didn't they go after them sooner?

Feels wrong.

underseacables··on Journalism's fight for survival in a postliterate democracy
Tabloids? Not when 51 intelligence professionals sign a letter, claiming the laptop to be false when in fact it was not. I think the laptop story is a classic example of why people distrust a journalists. You had many media outlets, backed by government officials, essentially covering up for Hunter Biden and lying to the public. The laptop exists. It's contents exist. But for years all we heard was that this was a false flag operation from Russia.

That was a lie

underseacables··on Journalism's fight for survival in a postliterate democracy
Have they been conditioned to be this way over time?
underseacables··on Journalism's fight for survival in a postliterate democracy
Do you think there is an opportunity for a news publication that reports "just the facts" and holds that as their mantra? No opinions, just facts.
underseacables··on U.S. Sets Targets to Triple Nuclear Energy Capacity by 2050
Nevada, Arizona, Utah.. there is an obscene amount of readily available, flat, unused land. Best of all, most of it is federally owned.
underseacables··on U.S. Sets Targets to Triple Nuclear Energy Capacity by 2050
It has a lot to do with outside groups using the bureaucratic process to slow things down. A popular method is using what it's called environmental impact study. If an EIS identifies that some little field mouse might be harmed if the nuclear power plant is built, an outside organization can use that report to sue to stop the entire project. This tactic has been used countless times to stop everything from copper mining, to solar farms. Worse, still, if a group sues, and they win, the government picks up the tab. It's called environmental justice lawsuits, and they have utterly destroyed most Green projects in America.
underseacables··on Waymo One is now open to all in Los Angeles
Well, New York City, but that is more of an edge case. Most public transit in America is safe .... I think.
underseacables··on Spirit Airlines is filing for bankruptcy
I think the harm to millions of consumers is not from higher fares or fewer seats, it's from airlines treating us like we are cattle. Spirit is uncomfortable to the point of unsafe, and their entire perception of their customers is shameful.

Good customer service counts for a lot, it's not just ticket prices, otherwise Spirit would not be having these financial issues.

underseacables··on Waymo One is now open to all in Los Angeles
I'd like to but how do you overcome the slight powerless feeling? Like when those guys surrounded a vehicle and made it to stop with people helplessly inside. You're kind of stuck.
underseacables··on Why California is still counting votes and how long it may take to finish
I think federal elections should be run by the federal government, not the states. Dramatically increase the number of voting locations, and have the federal government manage all of that under federal rules. That would be the safest and most secure way of doing federal elections. This thing of leaving it up to states and local communities introduces to many opportunities for fraud and mismanagement. Countries the size of California seem to have no problem counting their votes in one night. Delays are not healthy for democracy and there is never enough transparency.

I guess Congress could pass a law that every state must have their votes counted within 72 hours, or votes after that will not count.

underseacables··on I converted a Macbook into a PC
I have a 2011 MBP running Mint and it works great. Not unreasonably slow at all. I wish the author had at least tried to use Linux, maybe it was the learning curve.
underseacables··on Marine pilot loses command after ejecting from F-35B that kept flying
I think it is grossly unfair what happened to the pilot. He followed orders, followed procedure, followed the damn manual. Wholly inappropriate response by the marine corps. I can only assume that it got political and the brass got embarrassed.
underseacables··on Every arthouse buff you know is pirating films
My cubicle mate pirates everything, even if it's on a streaming site. Books, movies, music, comics, everything. He doesn't seem to care.
underseacables··on Homeworkers get 24 more minutes of sleep a day
I get up about 30 min before I have to begin work.
underseacables··on Growing food instead of lawns in California front yards
It would be nice if I could donate my front yard to a community garden. I would not have the time or the physical ability to maintain it. Myself, brass is actually easier that way, but if others are willing to grow and maintain crops there than I think that would be a fantastic use of the space.
underseacables··on Rivian's chief software officer says in-car buttons are 'an anomaly'
I prefer more physical buttons, not less, and I think it's safer even if it adds cost.
underseacables··on After non-endorsement, 250k subscribers cancel The Washington Post
IMHO it has a lot to do with in-group dynamics and power. The militancy is feeling part of a group, which becomes part of a person's identity, and resisting attacks on that group-based identity.

The Last thing most people want to do is to admit that they are wrong, and the more you tell them they are wrong, the more entrenched in their belief they will be.

underseacables··on EPA cancels pesticide shown to be harmful to unborn babies
The action comes after years of mounting scientific evidence of the dangers posed by exposure to the chemical dimethyl tetrachloroterephthalate, also known as DCPA or Dacthal.

Great, now do Glyphosate.

underseacables··on Musk, Bezos need just 90 minutes to match your lifetime carbon footprint: Oxfam
Musk, Bezos, Taylor Swift, Mark Cuban, they all use more carbon as a person than any regular person in the world. Yet it's the people that are demanded to change for climate change, not the wealthy, which I find to be gross hypocrisy.
underseacables··on Tesla headquarters spills gallons of lime-green liquid into Bay Area street
So... not a big deal? I saw the FD recovered a lot of it.

underseacables··on Baidu CEO: AI 'bubble' will burst 99 percent of players
I don't know, remember the controversy over the wildly inaccurate historical AI images? That could serve some satirical products.
