"Fake it 'til you make it" is more about pretending to have confidence before you really have it and less about falsifying your past in a way that's easy for someone to fact check.

uberdog··on How I Accidentally Captured the SpaceX Falcon 9 Landing
Ah. Duh. I read the original blog post last night and thought it was just the same thing reposted on another site. I was surprised the animation wasn't included in the original post.
uberdog··on How I Accidentally Captured the SpaceX Falcon 9 Landing
I personally like this animated gif that SpaceX tweeted better than the static image the photographer created:

uberdog··on What cold showers and exercise have in common (2014)
You're a crazy motherfucker, but variety is the spice of life. Props for that. I'm going to stick with heat for my showers and leave cold for when I'm skiing.

uberdog··on Friends, Please Tell T-Mobile’s CEO About EFF
"if EFF is on the same side, they'd inform T-Mobile more quietly that they're actually throttling data"

T-Mobile knows it's throttling data.

All the EFF did was tell everyone else the results of testing. John's basically saying "who the fuck are you for telling everyone".

uberdog··on Five years of Scala and counting: debunking some myths
I've been developing a Play app in IntelliJ for the past year. When run in development mode ($ activator run) it recompiles only the necessary files when you make a change, save, and reload the page in the web browser. I can even switch branches to another developer's work and don't have to restart the server. I'm not sure what you're talking about. Maybe you have something set up incorrectly.

Have you used Asgard? The AWS console is gorgeous comparatively.
uberdog··on Tesla Energy
Having lived through Hurricane Sandy in NYC: don't assume you can get gas to fill your generator in a disaster situation. Solar panels paired with a battery aren't dependent on a supply chain (that itself needs energy).
uberdog··on Tesla Energy
He was the same at the Dragon 2 launch. I get the impression that he doesn't rehearse for these events much, probably because he's probably got much more important things to work on.

uberdog··on Amazon Can Now Test Its Delivery Drones in the U.S
I'm interested in this as well and did some research on it and apparently most of the noise is generated by the ESCs (the components that control the speed of the rotors) and not the rotor blades themselves.
uberdog··on FAA says monetized videos shot from drones are subject to commercial regulations
No license yet, but they're giving waivers for commercial use: https://www.faa.gov/uas/legislative_programs/section_333/
uberdog··on Gotham Air: Manhattan to JFK in 6 minutes for $99
I would always take LIRR to Jamaica, then Airtrain. Easy peasy, way faster than the subway and only about $20.
uberdog··on The Reddit Front Page Is Not a Meritocracy

uberdog··on Making a brain for my model plane
Try starting with a simulator, like Phoenix. You plug in your transmitter to your computer's USB and it's like a video game where you're in a field flying whatever model you choose (plane or multirotor). You can change the conditions (increase the wind, for example) and crash all you want without having to make repairs.

Once you feel comfortable in the simulator, start with a big foam flyer like an EasyStar or Bixler. It's easiest if you start with 3 channel (no ailerons) so there's less you have to worry about. Progressively move to smaller and faster planes (first in the simulator, then in the field).

uberdog··on Alan Cox announces Fuzix OS
He released what people considered to be the stable branch of the Linux kernel (the -ac branches). Linus was moving quickly and Alan would package up the releases that everyone would use.

I just learned, from reading that wikipedia page, about the falling out he and Linus had.

uberdog··on Dronecode – Open source UAV platform
I think that ship has sailed. "Drone" is a single, simple word that the public is using to describe flying robots. Trying to convince everyone to not use it will be a Sisyphean task.

I'd still like "hacker" back, but that ain't gonna happen.
