tzakrajs··on CoreNet: A library for training deep neural networks
We are all starting to better understand the ethos of their engineering teams more generally.
tzakrajs··on CoreNet: A library for training deep neural networks
They have tons of computer vision, NN inference and natural language processing in their products. It's reductive to say Apple products don't have much AI.
tzakrajs··on Daniel Dennett has died
Also: Do yourself a favor and (dont? er do?) read/listen to his brother's books! Particularly The Phoney Victory. He writes polemics as good as Christopher. Truly a yin to the yang. I like the way they argue, although I don't necessarily agree with everything they argue.
tzakrajs··on Swiss satellite antennas make a comeback as solar powerhouses
Yes, but on my napkin, all of this will create significantly more power which more than offsets those costs.
tzakrajs··on M 4.8 – 2024 Whitehouse Station, New Jersey Earthquake
What is a Nor'easter?
tzakrajs··on Containers and Unikernels: Similar, different, and intertwined

tzakrajs··on Why the hell is your Kubernetes API public?
Back in 2020 I once accidentally kept my personal k8s api open and got hit by a drive-by k8s-in-k8s bitcoin miner attack, it deployed an operator and it failed to run correctly but it created a ton of pods in my default namespace.
tzakrajs··on Bernie Sanders Proposes Reducing Americans' Workweek to 32 Hours
Retiring is almost courageous
tzakrajs··on U.S. is said to open criminal inquiry into Boeing
> Shareholder primacy was famously established in the decision of Dodge v. Ford Motor Co. in 1919. In Dodge v. Ford Motor Co.'s court opinion, it stated that "there should be no confusion" that "a business corporation is organized and carried on primarily for the profit of the stockholders." Because of this opinion, a precedent was set that managers had to maximize shareholder profit.

tzakrajs··on The war inside Palantir: Data-mining firm ties to ICE under attack by employees
I want to join Palantir just to disrupt their business because Peter Thiel is a scum sucker and deserves the absolute worst workforce. Palantir should be liquidated and the proceeds returned to tax payers.
tzakrajs··on Researcher banned on Valve's bug bounty program publishes second Steam 0-day
It's actually not better than Blizzard or EA's client at this point. I will agree it is better than Epic and Bethesda launchers.
tzakrajs··on Researcher banned on Valve's bug bounty program publishes second Steam 0-day
Valve figured out how to print money by hooking teenagers with gambling on loot boxes. They stopped having to create AAA titles, they stopped having to do anything remotely creative, and now they are a giant cancer with no value left to add. Their client is an insecure, slow, instable piece of shit and has been this way for well over a decade. I regret being a customer of theirs.
tzakrajs··on Eduard Pernkopf: The Nazi book of anatomy still used by surgeons
If only we had thousands of bodies donated to educational institutions for decades with the capability to reproduce these works in better fidelity with modern technology. Oh well, I guess we will just rely on this Nazi book instead.
tzakrajs··on Alone in the Dark
Then they immediate ruined the franchise with the second.
tzakrajs··on Hong Kong protest: What is mainland China hearing?
Sounds like CCP did a good job of stoking division between HK and mainland China leading up to this powder keg being lit.
tzakrajs··on Yield Curves Invert in U.S., U.K
Because he's a grifter who profits from other peoples losses.
tzakrajs··on Amazon wants to control third-party sellers’ product pricing
The stores look nicer at least. Great lighting!

tzakrajs··on Apple Is Locking iPhone Batteries to Discourage Repair
First off, Louis Rossman has made his fair share of stupid mistakes on camera and I am sure he's had his own work returned to his shop in the past. It is important to note is that he is cherry picking the worst cases of incompetence from across the country since he has many fans willing to send their Macs to him. Apple's Genius Bar services over 18 million users per year. There are bound to be some stinkers. https://www.cultofmac.com/185762/did-you-know-apples-genius-...
tzakrajs··on JPG vs. PNG vs. GIF vs. SVG
Why in the hell would you want vector graphics in GIF ever?

Is it a photograph? No

Is it vector? Yes

For a Website? No

Does it have a gradient? No

Gif

Wat? Once you get to "Is it vector?" it should just point to SVG

tzakrajs··on YouTube bans 14 year old for violating hate speech guidelines
Police will interpret and enforce the law in ways that aren't always legal. I wouldn't consider their interpretation of what a credible threat is to be canonical.
tzakrajs··on Alphabet overtakes Apple to become most cash-rich company
I would call income tax a good problem to have, one which these companies don't have
tzakrajs··on The SEC Wants Disgraced VC Mike Rothenberg to Cough Up More Than $30M
Thanks for making this clear, I edited my statement to be reputation based and not valuation since the judgement of the firm is important for their ability raise funds.
tzakrajs··on The SEC Wants Disgraced VC Mike Rothenberg to Cough Up More Than $30M
I'm going to go out on a limb as guess that the Harvard professors used their Business school's reputation to prop up the reputation [edit: was valuation] of the firm. We see this in many research focused universities where professors use the clout of their program to pump up their student's ventures -- typically with the professors being angel or early seed investors.

Corruption doesn't need to be illegal or against policy to be corruption. Corruption can be the degradation of institutions -- making their results less reliable -- and muddying truth.

tzakrajs··on Network Effects That Don’t Look Like Network Effects
This is what happens when you outsource graphics to people without making sure they understand what you are talking about.
tzakrajs··on A Wisconsin lawmaker who's paralyzed isn't allowed to participate in meetings
So the argument for why remote callers should not be allowed is because the meeting is a great burden for its participants to commute to it and the burden must be felt by as many people as possible. Maybe we could make everyone happier by allowing remote meetings?
tzakrajs··on Senior Citizens Struggle with Suicide as Loneliness and Isolation Set In
How about we calm down on the Jewish stereotypes and you try to write that again in a way that isn’t a word salad.

tzakrajs··on Scientists stunned by ‘city-killer’ asteroid that just missed Earth

tzakrajs··on Scientists stunned by ‘city-killer’ asteroid that just missed Earth
