tymm··on Show HN: Kreuzberg – Modern async Python library for document text extraction
I live in 36 since 15 years or so. Wasn't as lucky as you :)
tymm··on How to found a company in Germany: 14 "easy" steps and lots of pain
My primary concern with establishing a company in Germany isn't the bureaucracy—it's the unreasonable exit tax. This tax feels like a trap because it's levied on the company's valuation, not its revenue, effectively anchoring businesses to Germany. I'm curious about the preferred destinations for entrepreneurs looking to avoid this issue. Do most opt for the Netherlands or Ireland, or is there another popular choice?
tymm··on Glove80 Ergonomic Keyboard
This is exactly why I wouldn't want to switch from my Kinesis 360 Pro even though I prefer the low profile switches and maybe the thumb cluster from the Glove80. I just love the build quality of the Kinesis 360 Pro.
tymm··on Glove80 Ergonomic Keyboard
I haven't had any bluetooth connectivity issues with the 360 Pro since ZMK 3.
tymm··on Show HN: I was frustrated with pricing of PagerDuty et al., so made one myself
Cool product. Feel free to reach out at contact@simplepush.io, if you want to chat about push notifications :)
tymm··on Ask HN: Is there a developer laptop that does not suck and is not a Mac in 2022?
In terms of speed, at least when we look at mostly single-threaded work load (like most dev work is), a M2 Macbook Air is faster than every Desktop PC. Correct me if I'm wrong.
tymm··on Show HN: What do you think of my new social app?
I tried to sign up on my iPhone and it didn't work.

I think this is a great idea. What are your strategies to make users to bring their friends?

tymm··on Marketing is scary for a solo developer
Thanks, I adjusted the landing page a bit. I hope it makes the goals of the app clearer.
tymm··on Marketing is scary for a solo developer
Really appreciate your suggestions! Some things are just hard to see from the inside.

> Also nothing should be priced at $4.99/year, I don't care what it is, if it's worth $4.99 a year then it's probably worth at least 20x that.

Would you still increase the price if the main competitor with the biggest market share is already cheaper (one-time payment of $5)?

tymm··on Marketing is scary for a solo developer
Sorry to hear that. Did you try other platforms on which you didn't get suspended?

Did you have to tune your Google ads campaign before it worked or did it work for you from the first try?

tymm··on Marketing is scary for a solo developer
Because I just want to finish that one feature before sharing it ;) Jokes aside, I just don't like the idea of spamming communities. I probably should do it more often though.
tymm··on Marketing is scary for a solo developer
Were you able to make your Google ads profitable?
tymm··on Marketing is scary for a solo developer
As a solo developer (https://simplepush.io) that hates marketing as well, I often find myself trying to make use of paid ads. Probably because it is easier to spend some money than writing a good article. However it hasn't really worked for me so far. Wondering if other solo developers had some success with paid ads?
tymm··on AMD Zen 3 Ryzen Deep Dive Review
So far my thinking is that I'll go with the 5950x since it's more or less on par with the 5900x for gaming performance but has slightly faster single core performance. Also more cores are nice for running tests.
tymm··on AMD Zen 3 Ryzen Deep Dive Review
So should I get the 5900x or the 5950x as a programmer who likes compilation-heavy languages like Scala and Haskell and that also play games?
tymm··on Show HN: Made a new notification tool and I'm looking for some beta testers
Shameless self-promotion: I did something similar for Android called Simplepush (https://simplepush.io). However be careful: one of the features (Simplepush events) is currently not working on Android 8 or newer.
tymm··on Making the move from Scala to Go
Can you elaborate on why you think that Clojure has a higher level of composability than a static typed language like Scala?
tymm··on Ask HN: Recommend an introductory course on compilers
I recently began with https://lagunita.stanford.edu/courses/Engineering/Compilers/...

Until now I think it is good (I'm in the second week of the course).

tymm··on Using AWS Lambda to call and text you when your servers are down
I wrote something similar in bash and put it into a docker image: https://hub.docker.com/r/simplepush/alerta

Just running this docker image on a server you want to monitor is enough.

Instead of Twilio it uses Simplepush (https://simplepush.io).

tymm··on Show HN: Commits.io - Create a poster from your code and logo
This is pretty cool.

Would be interesting to know how much revenue you are making so far.

tymm··on Ask HN: What simple tools or products are you most proud of making?
https://simplepush.io Easiest way to send notifications to Android from the command line.

No registration, unlimited notifications, send messages via curl.

I made it because I like simplicity and all other tools were overly complicated (require registration and so on).

tymm··on Show HN: App for receiving notifications from the command line
Thank you for the feedback. Detail view is in progress. Copying totally makes sense. Good idea.
tymm··on Ntfy: A utility for sending notifications
I think pushbullet does that.
tymm··on Ntfy: A utility for sending notifications
Funny to see this on HN since I just released an Android App called Simplepush (https://simplepush.io) which qualifies for what Ntfy calls a backend.

Let's see if they accept a PR to list me as an additional backend :)

tymm··on The Golden Age of Open Protocols
I am by no means an expert on blockchain technology so I could be wrong on this, but I think your assumption that the user would have to pay for a tweet is wrong.

I think posting and reading tweets could be handled off-chain.

tymm··on The Golden Age of Open Protocols
One answer to this is to be the first one who does it. (It's also quite hard to succeed as a centralized twitter clone at the moment.)

Why do you think that the decentralized model is inferior when it comes to user acquisition? A team with enough tokens in their pocket would have enough incentive to do the same kind of user acquisition as the centralized counterpart.

tymm··on The Golden Age of Open Protocols
Twokens could for example be used by companies to buy ad slots or reach on the distributed Twitter which would give twokens value.
tymm··on Disrupting Uber
Even in the unlikely case that the co-op could temporally get more customers than Uber, Uber could just artificially lower the prices for customers/increase rates for drivers and win customers/drivers back. A co-op could not do that since they have no money in the bank.

Except when all this happens on an own blockchain where people can invest in the co-op via tokens on that blockchain? Maybe this could even be combined with a prediction market which decides how to counteract attacks (on prices) from Uber?!

tymm··on How and Why to Log Your Bash History
For the zsh users out there: I wrote a zsh plugin [0] a while ago which does a similar thing (writes time, directory and command to a file) + gives you a better (directory sensitive) history search.
