tylerflick··on Apple caught off guard by AI demand for Mac Mini and Mac Studio
> A huge benefit of local setups at our studio is that a lot of our software can't run headless, so when we're having agents work in Blender or in Unity etc with MCP that'd otherwise eat up our normal computer use

I'm curious about your setup. I've been tinkering with the idea of setting up Blender (cli use) in a container to allow agents to verify the scripts they are generating compile at a minimum. One thing I've found extremely helpful was generating a RAG of the current version of Blender.

For anyone wondering, I'm running Gemma4 26b A4B on a mini PC with 32 GB of DD4 and a Vega 7 iGPU (llama.cpp w/ Vulkan).

tylerflick··on Why travellers are obsessed with foreign supermarkets
One of my favorite souvenirs from France is a reusable shopping bag from Carrefour.
tylerflick··on A Tome of Forbidden Technologies
Same. I was already getting hand-wavy vibes from the prose above it.
tylerflick··on ASRock BC-250: Building the Budget Steam Machine
You can buy most ATX (or derivative) cases and have an adapter bracket printed from services like JLPCB. Make sure the material is ABS or another high temperature plastic to resist heat warp.
tylerflick··on ESP32-C3 SuperMini antenna modification
2.4GHz is already incredibly crowded and prone to interference (in urban environments). I remember once picking up emissions on a Bluetooth headset from a leaky microwave oven.
tylerflick··on Steam Machine 512GB
Are you using the stock cooler? I’m going with an AIO for the APU, but I worry that the little heatsinks I’m planning for the VRMs aren’t going to cut it.
tylerflick··on Vacation With An Artist – Mini-Apprenticeships with Artists in Their Studios
For 1200 a month you could have excellent coverage from Kaiser.
tylerflick··on Electric motors with no rare earths
I assume you’re talking about the n52 vs n20. I’ve had both engines as daily drivers, and they’re both fine. The n20 has a bad rap due to early models failing from a timing chain guides breaking.
tylerflick··on I Hate (Most) Keyboard 'Fn' Keys
Ah WASD keyboards :(. Does anyone by chance have the manuals for the v1 and or v3 coding keyboards from them?
tylerflick··on Under Notre Dame, a 'dig of the century' unearths 1,700 years of history
Definitely worth visiting if you’re there, along with the remains of the medieval fortress under the Louvre.
tylerflick··on The dangers of California's legislation to censor 3D printing
I used to work in this industry and can confirm. California was by far the biggest cohort of consumers we had.
tylerflick··on Netflix Prices Went Up Again – I Bought a DVD Player Instead
I've found cartoons look fine if the format matches your display.

Thunderbolt is external PCIe.

This is the way. You can even do it with mDNS.
tylerflick··on Iran's Ayatollah Ali Khamenei is killed in Israeli strike, ending 36-year rule
Iraq was ruled by a sociopath that used chemical weapons against his own citizens. I didn’t agree with the invasion, but there is no doubt Iraq is better off today than it would have been without U.S. involvement.
tylerflick··on Child-free 'Disney adults' are transforming the company's theme parks (2023)
They also ruin the experience of trying to take your child to one of these parks.
tylerflick··on Will vibe coding end like the maker movement?
Not sure I see it like that. Micropython removes most of the rough edges of doing embedded C. If you prefer no code then I suggest ESPHome for your ESP IoT projects.
tylerflick··on Cardiorespiratory fitness is associated with lower anger and anxiety
You could try signing up for a race. 5k’s are a good intro if you’re new to running. Plus it’s a nearly free hobby.
tylerflick··on Factory-built housing hasn't taken off in California
It’s wild to hear people scape goat REIT funds and campaign for rent control when the real problem happens to be “average people” owning investment properties. Step 1 of fixing the problem is the immediate repeal of Prop 13.
tylerflick··on Phil Spencer is exiting Microsoft as AI executive takes over Xbox
2020 yes. 2024 on PS5 IMO was a waste of money. The problem is they both require tons of computing power to run smoothly and look good.
tylerflick··on Puget Systems Most Reliable Hardware of 2025
Check out OpenRGB. It more often than not supports your device and it runs on most OS’s. I used it to turn off the rave happening in my rig.
tylerflick··on Message from Pope Leo XIV on the 60th World Day of Social Communications
If only he had the power to excommunicate entities from the internet.
tylerflick··on Soldering Prototypes with Enamel Magnet Wire (2020)
Is this really easier to work with than bodge wire (wire wrap)? Asking because I still have a few rolls and would rather not waste money.

tylerflick··on Doing gigabit Ethernet over my British phone wires
This has been my experience as well. I did have signal issues with cheap consumer router+AP combos, but after switching to Ubiquiti hardware coverage and signal have been great.
tylerflick··on 40M Americans Live Alone, 29% of households
It’s a complete mis-use of needed space regardless of someone’s sentimental value attached to it.

The culprit is not the concentration of jobs to a geographic area, it’s NIMBYs and crap like California’s Prop 13 artificially constraining supply.

tylerflick··on A Year of 3D Printing
