tug0fwar··on Microsoft Teams down for thousands of users
One is contributed to by the community. The other, not so much
tug0fwar··on Peter Norvig's “pytudes” for Advent of Code 2020
Mine too, I even have a few Flash (.fla) project files (games) here coming through an array of backups
tug0fwar··on What Shape Are You?
"This blog requires JavaScript for anything besides reading."

I knew I was in good hands ;)

tug0fwar··on Developer and Power Users Tool List for Windows
Sandboxie[1] is a really handy tool for running isolated processes on Windows.

tug0fwar··on Working at Apple (2011)
I went there with JS disabled and was very confused–it just showed a list of links. Not pleasant.

Edit: With JS enabled, the design just amazed me

tug0fwar··on To the brain, reading computer code is not the same as reading language
I agree, this is probably because we never 'speak' (although write) in programming languages trying to convey something. This goes same for 'hearing' (although we read and understand, hopefully). We always use human languages for those purposes, well, except for those times we speak in pseudo-code.
tug0fwar··on Things I Don’t Know as of 2018
Don't be too quick to take it at face value. It's hard to write down what is actually in one's head, even for experienced writers. I'm sure he'll tell you a lot more on the stuff he claims he doesn't know if you had the good fortune of having a chat with him in person. Also, keep in mind that he probably knows deeply about some things and their extents, and so his definition of words like 'fuzzy' should be different from that of an intern's. As he puts it himself,

> Experienced developers have valuable expertise despite knowledge gaps

contributes heavily to

> learning technologies when I need them

which can be very valuable.

tug0fwar··on The Leaderless Organization (2012)
But it's not that simple. There are many things like social dynamics at play whenever people interact with one another, and the one with most charisma is going to be a leader without a title–and that can be good too.
tug0fwar··on Hire people who give a shit
And companies who dare asking your consent to collect, retain, and share (with 3rd parties they like) everything about you from your teams chat to gene data.
tug0fwar··on Fucking, Austria changes name to Fugging

tug0fwar··on Show HN: I made an alternative to Google Alerts that listens to social media
Hi, you should hide elements with CSS instead of with JS, following is visible on visiting the page with JS disabled.

"A confirmation link has been sent to your email. If you register and confirm your email, you can skip this step."

tug0fwar··on Cover Your Tracks
How about a browser that has cookies etc. as different modules detachable/attachable from/to the actual _browsing session/s_, and an option to attach/detach them on the fly. I think I would get used to the overhead work involved when browsing, just like I got used to NoScript.
tug0fwar··on Linux Command One-Liners
> Get your external IP address > > >_ curl ip.appspot.com

IMHO, entries like this are misleading for a beginner (a bad apple in the basket)

Maybe you should give VSCodium[1] a try?

tug0fwar··on Firefox asked to import logins from Chromium
Very true, and I agree there are programs to retrieve browser passwords [1]. Does this mean there is built-in code in Firefox which sniffs for browser-stored password files inside home directory of a user? I don't see any other way how Firefox knew that I had the logins saved in Chromium for the particular site I mentioned.

tug0fwar··on A disturbing Twinkie that has, so far, defied science
Maybe it's meant as an idiom to mention a deviation from what is available in 'science' as a domain?
tug0fwar··on The Mostly True Story of Vanilla Ice
"we dropped my brother-and-law off"

This made me want to read the rest of your comment ;)

Hope you meant __brother-in-law__ though

tug0fwar··on Why you should write
In the midst of Covid-19 isolation, meeting with less distractions, I too had thoughts on theses lines. It almost came as a revelation. Keep creating, everyone's a creative force. But create value, not nonsensical stuff. Kudos for the author of this article.

If I may, RWE's 'Self-Reliance' too mentions something on these lines.

tug0fwar··on US Army trials augmented reality goggles for dogs

tug0fwar··on Having an alter ego can reduce anxiety, benefit confidence: research
My name is.. my name is... my name is <chika chika> Slim Shady

Edit: Don't know why the downvotes. Maybe the song 'all-solo-founders-please-stand-up' does not relate to as many of us as I thought.

tug0fwar··on Extremely disillusioned with technology. Please help
If you are inclined to give your minimum at something you spend time on everyday, it essentially means you shouldn't have started it in the first place.

Unless you are forced to do work you don't enjoy (work is what brings food to the table etc.), you should obviously find better work. Also, even if you are stuck, try to get out of it as soon as possible.

Choosing to do work you don't care about is simply bad decision making due to lack of understanding. In the long run it may even reduce the quality of your life.

tug0fwar··on We Wasted $50K on Google Ads So You Don't Have To (2019)
Good that you decided not to "wallow in buyers’ remorse" and spread the story + your brand.

A perfect case of finding opportunity amid crisis.

tug0fwar··on Joy of Underconfidence for Founders
Yeah, this lack of resources problem (with multiple other factors) keep most of us from living the life we want to live. I wonder how we can improve/grow out from this...
tug0fwar··on Joy of Underconfidence for Founders
For me, it was an app that lets you record the day's overall happiness level. I had even thought about details such as a way for asking user's name in a friendly manner if I were to build it. But now I know such apps exist.
tug0fwar··on Ask HN: How to Find Purpose?
Hey @leadership101 how things are going for you?
tug0fwar··on Ask HN: How did you first hear about the automation tools that you are using?
I think I stumbled upon huginn's [1] repo on GH while searching for startup ideas.

tug0fwar··on Ask HN: How to Find Purpose?
Mediation, obviously. Also being physically active; jogging, swimming, or running, at least a few minutes everyday.
tug0fwar··on Ask HN: How to Find Purpose?
Looked inside. Mindfully.

I encourage you to read following books: 1. Mindfulness in plain English 2. As a man thinketh 3. Self reliance (essay by RWE) 4. Wherever you go, there you are 5. The monk who sold his Ferrari 6. The alchemist 7. Wind, sand and stars 8. The heart and the fist 9. The little prince 10. The phantom tollbooth

If you think you don't have the time for all, just only read the first one.
