tubularhells··on Ask HN: What to use instead of Bash / Sh for scripting?
Python.
tubularhells··on Ask HN: Who else posts to HN from Chrome's new tab article suggestions?
This is not in Chromium, and I'm glad.
tubularhells··on Ask HN: What under-the-radar technology are you excited about?
IoT smart spoons.
tubularhells··on Google's AI extreme censorship on youtubes comments hurting truth
Chances are, the content creator blacklisted you on his channel. That way your comments are shadow banned forever. You can type all you like, noone will see it.

This is a feature, not a bug.

tubularhells··on How People Get Rich Now
He is rich, and makes people rich. All the kids starting their tech company want to suck up to the man with the golden touch.
tubularhells··on How People Get Rich Now
I had the same feeling skimming through the post. What a despicable person this PG turned out to be.
tubularhells··on Ask HN: I feel my career is at a dead end. Any advice on what could I do?
Ask your wife if she wants a miserable or a happy husband. I moved for my wife and I didn't regret it. She is willing to move for me too, if it ever comes to that.

But most IT jobs are remote now anyway. Look for those opportunities. Don't be scare.

tubularhells··on Ask HN: I feel my career is at a dead end. Any advice on what could I do?
Yeah, it's a webdev posturing on how he reinvented the wheel three times in a decade. Look at the code he linked, and weep.
tubularhells··on You Don't Need a GUI
I'm autistic myself, diagnosed and all. I don't know what you are taking about.
tubularhells··on Ask HN: Solo developer, what's your recipe to start working?
Rob Wolf has some stuff on it iirc. Worth a look.

Sorry for being an arse, I had a rough day.

tubularhells··on Ask HN: How to relocate to Europe as a software developer
The Netherlands does this.
tubularhells··on Ask HN: How to relocate to Europe as a software developer
Apply on LinkedIn, get a job. Make sure you have a photo. We don't do the whole 'no photo on cv' thing here.

If you want a boost, check out the Finland IT program. They pretty much want a bunch of developers and IT people to move there, and it's an official govt. program. If you want, you can get citizenship in a couple years and become an EU citizen

tubularhells··on Ask HN: What APIs exist to pull stock quotes
Robinhood has an API for this, as so 1700 python libraries. Did you even search before asking?
tubularhells··on Ask HN: As a startup do you employ good people over passionate ones?
Don't ever employ enthusiast developers. They will leave with the next change of wind.

Hire the quiet ones that just want to do a good job.

tubularhells··on Ask HN: How do you solicit user feedback for your mobile app?
Have a submit feedback button in the main interface.
tubularhells··on Ask HN: Solo developer, what's your recipe to start working?
Your reasoning is very poor. Such thought experiments might convince an elementary school student, but that's it.
tubularhells··on Ask HN: Solo developer, what's your recipe to start working?
Do your research please.
tubularhells··on Ask HN: I built it, nobody came, now what?
Pay someone with social reach to write about it. Effectively, it's marketing of the subtle kind.
tubularhells··on You Don't Need a GUI
I consider vim and Emacs to be the same thing with different shortcuts. I have no desire to learn either.
tubularhells··on Ask HN: Solo developer, what's your recipe to start working?
You could move workout to the morning when your testosterone levels are highest during the day-night cycle. Easier gains.
tubularhells··on Ask HN: Solo developer, what's your recipe to start working?
This is dumb. You are not meant to be anyone. You do not become a person who you are currently not. You are you, always, and you change throughout your life. Now here, next there. There is no percentage bar to fill up. No 'ding, grats' at level 60.
tubularhells··on Ask HN: Solo developer, what's your recipe to start working?
Have a creative outlet that is not digital. I paint. You can paint too, a lot of things in fact. Oil on canvas, watercolours, acrylics on miniatures (historical, fantasy, sci-fi, busts). It's a wonderful thing. I don't feel like sitting in front of a computer ever, so I bring this desire to motivate me in building SaaS products that might one day give me a passive income. Build a dozen, if each make 200 a month that's already a good amount. Right?
tubularhells··on You Don't Need a GUI
'Vim for everything' mentality requires a high degree of autistic behaviour in my opinion. I'm just not there on the spectrum.
tubularhells··on You Don't Need a GUI
Windows Explorer is terrible. I used Norton Commander>windows commander>total commander>double commander my whole life. It's as fast as your keyboard gets. I cringe when I see people navigating files I'm Explorer.
tubularhells··on Rates of Parkinson’s disease are exploding. A common chemical may be to blame
How would you know?
tubularhells··on Ask HN: Any gotchas you can share when starting a podcast?
Audacity is perfectly servicable and used by 99% of podcasts, what are.you talking about.
tubularhells··on Ask HN: How to sell apps on Linux?
Ask the developers of Insync, UKUU and Aseprite.

They sell licences via their sites, with activation codes or Google authentication.

But if you want to make a living, I suggest making a Linux phone oriented application store first and foremost, and figuring out the DRM that way. Developers will come if an ecosystem is built for easy deployments and selling software.

tubularhells··on Learning about the navigational feats of animals
Life is short. Get a cat.
tubularhells··on Learning about the navigational feats of animals
I know someone who freezes on trips in other countries when she enters an underground station and the map stops responding. She just doesn't understand why the magic stopped working. She is so dependant on Google maps that she doesn't trust herself anymore. I tried to explain GPS and satellites, but she is dense.
tubularhells··on Pro1 X: A Linux smartphone with slideout keyboard
Imagine a world where some people speak more than one language on a daily basis.

Wild, I know.
