tsax··on ProtonMail blocked by Vodafone Turkey
Forgive me for this n00b question, but what do you get with ProtonMail (with respect to security) that you don't get with, say, gmail?
tsax··on Heredity Beyond the Gene
Greg Cochran, an expert geneticist who wrote 'The 10,000 Year Explosion' has a different view.

tsax··on House Passes Bill to Sabotage Net Neutrality
Yes this is why it's unable to find any music outside of the Billboard Top 20 chart.
tsax··on Ask HN: How do detect a crappy boss / toxic environment when interviewing?
Since this is your first job out of school, this tip won't help you unfortunately. In any case, it's good to keep a buffer of 6-months spending handy in savings (outside of retirement accounts, those should preferably NEVER be touched outside of TRUE emergencies). Having a buffer-fund, you will find, will keep your mind at ease and give you options to walk away from very toxic environments. Good luck buddy!
tsax··on Climate Model Predicts West Antarctic Ice Sheet Could Melt Rapidly
Yes to your 'EDIT'. If we can't even see increasing frequency of hurricanes, then how can we even begin to attribute things to AGW?
tsax··on For anyone who has been turned down by 38 companies
Ah the Franco-Prussian war then. Nice
tsax··on For anyone who has been turned down by 38 companies
Just wanted to say - cool handle! World War 1 history fan?
tsax··on Climate Model Predicts West Antarctic Ice Sheet Could Melt Rapidly
Lol Do people EVER follow-up after feel good policies to see how they worked out? http://www.bloomberg.com/news/articles/2014-04-14/coal-rises...
tsax··on Climate Model Predicts West Antarctic Ice Sheet Could Melt Rapidly
Just one question, have you looked at the frequency of extreme weather events over the last century?

tsax··on Google Fiber Phone
Your EDIT is right! That was my use case. When I got my new Nexus 6P, I saw a nice, well-functioning new Messenger app and danced a little.
tsax··on Google Fiber Phone
What was really horrible and downright ATROCIOUS was the Messenger (SMS) integration into Hangouts. I was jumping for joy when they freed SMS from Hangouts again recently.
tsax··on Profits are too high. America needs a giant dose of competition
Do you know how much is spent on US infrastructure per year? Do you think it's the lack of funds responsible for sub-par US infrastructure?
tsax··on Profits are too high. America needs a giant dose of competition
+1 lol
tsax··on Russ Roberts and the Quest to Make Economics Interesting
I've been listening to EconTalk since late 2006. Gosh, it's been nearly 10 years!
tsax··on Ask HN: How do I become a Sales Engineer?
Great suggestion, thanks.
tsax··on We only hire the trendiest
I've worked at a large financial company (everyone would recognize the name) and TFS was the main build system.
tsax··on Ask HN: How do I become a Sales Engineer?
Thanks for the excellent summary. I do feel I'm good at presenting ideas, hence this may be a role for me. I've mostly been at large corporations with boring stability and so wouldn't mind the pressure for a change. If it gets to be too much to handle, I could always switch back to being a developer.
tsax··on Ask HN: How do I become a Sales Engineer?
Thank you!
tsax··on Ask HN: What books are you reading?
Anathem by Neal Stephenson
tsax··on Rent-Stabilized Housing Is Disappearing Fast in NYC
Swedish economist (and socialist) Assar Lindbeck asserted, “In many cases rent control appears to be the most efficient technique presently known to destroy a city—except for bombing.”

Cat got your tongue, comrade?

tsax··on Uber has defeated Bill de Blasio’s plan to rein them in
My hunch is that if the company was different, it would lose. Like it or not, this is what's required to defeat our noble overlords a.k.a. the holy regulators and the munificent politicians.
tsax··on Two ways of thinking about economics
Assuming automatically that the state stands outside the nature of man as a perfect institution with the ABILITY to 'correct' market outcomes. There's whole fields of literature examining this and most regulation falls far short.

Yeah yet another programming language discussion/argument.

tsax··on Ask HN: What can I do to improve social skills?
Read this (http://www.iwillteachyoutoberich.com/blog/how-to-make-small-...) and watch this (http://www.iwillteachyoutoberich.com/special/small-talk-hack...) and read this (http://www.iwillteachyoutoberich.com/blog/watch-me-tear-down...) and everything else that Ramit Sethi has ever written and recorded about obtaining social skills. You won't regret it.
tsax··on Lyft
I guess the laws of supply and demand do operate after all!

tsax··on FCC Passes Strict Net Neutrality Regulations on 3-2 Vote
Your mistake is to imagine that you have any power at all to affect such outcomes and processes. They will be guided by media/PR/social forces, not your arguments. I guess it's the universal democratic conceit of the 'we.'
tsax··on FCC Passes Strict Net Neutrality Regulations on 3-2 Vote
If content regulations happen, they'll come in with the new flavor of the month, i.e. 'social justice.' There will be vague statutes against 'harassment' I'm guessing, and anyone decrying their vagueness or broadness will be decried a racist, sexist shitlord. You won't get 80's style 'Christian moralism' language in 2020.
