trvr··on Kagi releases alpha version of Orion for Linux
Don't let this hold you back. Use a mobile browser that lets you use Kagi; it's worth it.
trvr··on Show HN: Scriber Pro – Offline AI transcription for macOS
At $3.99 this was an instant buy for me until the App Store told me I couldn't. I think the venn diagram between HN users and those holding off on Tahoe is probably a pretty big overlap. ;-)
trvr··on Show HN: Scriber Pro – Offline AI transcription for macOS
Hence why I'm asking why it requires it. Trying to hold off as long as I can!
trvr··on Show HN: Scriber Pro – Offline AI transcription for macOS
Is there a reason it requires macOS 26?
trvr··on Teen suspect surrenders in 2023 Las Vegas casino cyberattack case
I was in Las Vegas when this happened, though we had no idea that day that this is what was happening. My wife and I went to get tickets to the Titanic exhibit at the Luxor and they said "our computers systems are down, we can only take cash". I had cash, and they sold us the tickets for extremely cheap.

Long story short, I've always felt like I stole from the casino that day too! :-)

It seems if you left click "Copy Permalink" that the site will generate a massive URL with all of your options. One of them is "settings-kiosk-checkbox". Change it to "true" in your copied URL and that should work.
trvr··on Attention K-Mart Shoppers
How did you find this?
trvr··on Privacy Pass Authentication for Kagi Search
This is so true. I've been on Kagi since March 2024. On the occasion that I find myself on Google on someone else's computer, I find it completely unusable from a search result perspective. It's all just junk. Kagi has me as a paying customer forever.
trvr··on Macrodata Refinement
You get a nice screen of dancing Milchick gifs when you get done.
trvr··on WordPress.org bans WP Engine
"Do you actually think there are meaningful numbers of people who have believed that WPEngine is actually wordpress itself?"

Yes.

"Wordpress.com leads to much more confusion on a regular basis."

Wordpress.com has a license to use the Wordpress trademark. I don't believe we should be comparing Wordpress.com to WP Engine here.

trvr··on WordPress.org bans WP Engine
I'm not a lawyer, but WP Engine is selling products on their website literally named "Core Wordpress". That seems like it might be a violation.
trvr··on WordPress.org bans WP Engine
It's not about WP in the company name. It's about loosely using the words "Wordpress" and "WooCommerce" all over their website in ways that violate trademarks.
trvr··on WP Engine sent “cease and desist” letter to Automattic
Where does it say that the money he is asking them to contribute would go to Automattic?
trvr··on macOS Sequoia is available today
I'm not taking the bait on that one. ;-)
trvr··on macOS Sequoia is available today
I am usually slow to upgrade but I jumped on this and iOS 18 immediately because of "iPhone Mirroring".

I've only had it for a few minutes, but it's really nice!

trvr··on Microsoft removes documentation for switching to a local account in Windows 11
No, you can set up a Mac with a local account without any weird hacks during setup.
trvr··on Hello IPv6: a minimal tutorial for IPv4 users
Can you expand on the "All modern clients randomise the host part of the address" statement. Do they randomize this host part for every session or just once per network?

I've always been under the impression that it is actually easier to track an individual user on IPv6 because each device now has a unique address. Example Company could now tell the difference between 2 users in a home, for example, instead of just a single NAT'd IPv4 address. Is that not true?

trvr··on Ask HN: Brother printers sending ink data to Amazon?
You could also try changing the "SNMP Community String" on your Brother printer and see if your "consumption history" stops.

trvr··on Ask HN: Brother printers sending ink data to Amazon?
What model(s) of Alexa devices do you have, if you don't mind sharing?
trvr··on Ask HN: Brother printers sending ink data to Amazon?
This reddit post from 3 years ago suggests that Amazon is using SNMP to monitor your local network printers.

Put your Amazon devices in an isolated "IOT" network if possible.

They also appear to be stripping the old paint during this re-painting process.

>> Home was the /home/ directory in Linux.

I have never (until reading this) thought of it in that context. Was that the original meaning for the name, or did it shift over time?

trvr··on Premium .dev domain with Google costs $850
Because they are embarrassed about the renewal price, of course. ;-)
trvr··on Premium .dev domain with Google costs $850
If the idea is to prevent cybersquatting, why wouldn't one be able to renew a domain they already paid $850 at a price much closer to $12 than $850?

$850/year is insane, full stop. You are comparing $850 to a 5-figure cybersquatter, but they only steal your money once. ;-)

trvr··on DNS Toys
For years now I have published DNS TXT records for my domain that include my twitter handle, email address, and a Google Voice number. I always thought it would be a fun "protocol" for people to adopt, but never knew how to advance it.

trvr··on 1Password for SSH and Git (Beta)
That's fair. I just found it odd that they specifically called out Rust.
trvr··on 1Password for SSH and Git (Beta)
Not looking for a fight here, but it seems like there is a disconnect between 1Password/AgileBits praising version 8 while also trying to bury the fact that it is an Electron app. It seems like you are proud of what you are building (and that's awesome), but the Releases page for beta [1] doesn't contain the word Electron.
