trust_bt_verify··on Two years of raising a bilingual daughter
I think it really comes down to the proximity to areas that speak that language. I can travel 100s of miles in every direction from my home in the US and only find English speakers. If there was a town that spoke Spanish 50 miles away, I may consider picking it up. Not many Europeans speak Chinese, why do you think that is?

The walls are normally the cheap part. Running the necessary utilities through those walls quickly adds up in cost and it quickly becomes cheaper to put up new walls, or just a whole new building like the parent comment suggests.

trust_bt_verify··on NSA, FBI, and CISA Release Cybersecurity Information Sheet on Deepfake Threats
“ A federal district court in California dismissed the claims, and the U.S. Court of Appeals for the 9th Circuit upheld that decision. The court of appeals ruled that although “it is possible to draw a causal line from the OEC’s flagging of the November 12th post to O’Handley’s suspension,” there was no “state action” for O’Handley to challenge under the First Amendment. California certainly exercised governmental authority when it flagged O’Handley’s tweet, the 9th Circuit reasoned, but it took no explicit action restricting his speech. And although Twitter did limit O’Handley’s speech, the court explained, it was following its own rules, rather than acting on the state’s behalf.”

This case?

Where did _you_ learn this tone of victimization when discussion issues with no references? I assume Musk was brought up as he has framed this issue in the same way the GP commenter did and he is the current owner of the company in question. You can dismiss that as celebrity fixation but it only undermines your own comment.

I have worn a bear bell on my backpack when I’m far out but that’s a bit different than a speaker as you could imagine.

Being able to spot a small white object in the sky and hearing it are very different things.

I put drone operators on the same level as those who hike with speakers blaring. No one is being hurt, no laws being broken. Just inconsiderate considering a large part of the experience for most in nature is the serenity.

trust_bt_verify··on Self-driving cars cause a traffic jam in Austin, Texas
I have seen many human drivers sort out the situation where they both wanted to turn down the same street. If they stopped and stared at each other for this long, it would probably make the local news or at least twitter. :)

Yup, just like there few that would consider themselves philosophers just because they took some philosophy classes in undergrad. Glad we have found some consensus on this.
trust_bt_verify··on Pooling and Sharing of wealth makes everyone's wealth grow faster
Yup, that did it. I am now convinced that some classes Ken took 45 years ago make him a modern day, professional economist. Guess I’m an economist too! I’m sure Paul Krugman would love the comparison.
trust_bt_verify··on Pooling and Sharing of wealth makes everyone's wealth grow faster
How about holding that title professionally? Or maybe just having him call himself an economist at some point? But your opinions are just that, and my opinion is your arguments are without merit.

You have a very low bar for classifying someone as an ‘economist’. I see why that’s the case as it does help your narrative but does not really lend much strength to your argument in my view.
trust_bt_verify··on Pooling and Sharing of wealth makes everyone's wealth grow faster
This list is rather disingenuous.

> Kenneth Cordele Griffin is an American hedge fund manager, entrepreneur and investor. He is the founder, chief executive officer, co-chief investment officer, and 80% owner of Citadel LLC, a multinational hedge fund. He also owns Citadel Securities, one of the largest market makers in the U.S.

I don’t see economist anywhere in Ken’s Wikipedia.
