trident5000··on Neuralink faces federal probe, employee backlash over animal tests
Not to sound harsh but I want advancement to cure horrible diseases and disabilities, not government red tape halting us from moving forward because some monkeys woke up with a headache.
trident5000··on Neuralink faces federal probe, employee backlash over animal tests
But the net suffering is probably less with scientific advancement. A few monkeys get an operation under anesthesia and seem pretty fine after and as a result you have potentially hundreds of thousands of people that have serious conditions restored.
trident5000··on MSN replaced journalists with AI publishing fake news about mermaids and Bigfoot
I think hes talking about a thread on Twitter where it was exposed the Biden admin was working with Twitter employees to take down content for political reasons.
trident5000··on At SpaceX, work was taken away from me in case I “might retire or die.”
You have one half of a story from a disgruntled employee. We dont know what actually happened.
trident5000··on At SpaceX, work was taken away from me in case I “might retire or die.”
Designing medical devices does not equivalate to having had a back issue and knowing what that entails. They run a lean team, they need their people now. Not in 6 months to a year after a back issue is resolved. Its not a union job. Thats what you sign up for.

for teh_klev below: You're taking a complete strangers begruntled story at face value. Again, I had back surgery, there is no way in hell he only missed a few days of work or was working anywhere close to capacity through this ordeal. Back injuries where you need surgery dont just disrupt your work, it disrupts your entire life and it takes time to put the pieces back together.

trident5000··on At SpaceX, work was taken away from me in case I “might retire or die.”
Thats shifting the goalpost, I didnt comment on SpaceX overall work hours. I commented on a specific employee being disabled. That said, his rockets work - so what argument do you really have?

for jmull below: "no relevant information" He needed back surgery and I have myself had back surgery. I have first hand experience on this topic. Your comment is really out of touch.

trident5000··on At SpaceX, work was taken away from me in case I “might retire or die.”
SpaceX sends real people on rockets into space. If they dont do the job right, people could die. Ive had a back injury, I actually had an artificial disc placed at my L4/L5 (which by the way is a life-saver and my back is 100% now). But there is no way in hell I could do a demanding job or any job at all when I was going through that. Creating redundancy for his position is a no-brainer in this situation.
trident5000··on At SpaceX, work was taken away from me in case I “might retire or die.”
This whole write-up comes off as ridiculous. Complaining that a company wants redundancy... they all do. Expecting that you carve out an area where you give yourself tremendous leverage at the detriment of the company is just foolish. And I don't buy the common "frat bro" culture accusation (which these days just means any young male with a hint of a personality).
trident5000··on Phone interview with Sam Bankman-Fried [audio]
"monetary harm" isnt a broken law. Im wondering what the specific rules are that he broke that could land him in jail for mismanaging customer funds. Its an odd case because the space has little regulation.
trident5000··on Phone interview with Sam Bankman-Fried [audio]
I have no idea how this plays out.

One question is what was in the agreement for FTX users? Can FTX use deposits for investments and to fund his other businesses?

In my view the path to prison for SBF is likely to come in the form of misleading investors rather than customers, but I dont know what the pitch deck told them at the time of funding. It might not even be against the law regarding what he did to customers despite the immense destruction.

trident5000··on The FBI alleges TikTok poses national security concerns
One predatory thing TikTok does that app stores should have banned ages ago is they repeatedly ask you to show them your contacts. The point is for you to slip up that one time and accidently hit "yes" so they can collect all that info. This should not be allowed.
trident5000··on FTX tapped into customer accounts to fund risky bets, setting up its downfall
This seems to be a slam dunk for prison time.

Only thing I can think of is if these companies are international so he doesnt get prosecuted in the US under US laws. Thats his only hope.

trident5000··on TikTok’s greatest asset isn’t its algorithm, it’s your phone
The most predatory thing TikTok does is constantly ask you for access to your contacts. Even when you hit no every time they count on you making a mistake and hitting yes that one time.
trident5000··on Twitter users jump to Mastodon, but what is it?
A certain % of the population are clinical narcissists, which is a massive amount nominally online. And narcissists cant stand when other people are successful. I'm convinced thats who these people are.
trident5000··on Twitter users jump to Mastodon, but what is it?
Musk talks about his employees and how critical they were/are constantly. This whole notion that "Musk didnt do it all" is such a clown argument because theres no other form of attack from people who simply dont like him and his politics.
trident5000··on Twitter users jump to Mastodon, but what is it?
Why tax payer money? Where did that part come from.
trident5000··on Twitter users jump to Mastodon, but what is it?
"Elon hires people he doesnt do all the work!"

Yes thats why you hire people...to not do all the work. Im pretty sure Elon is aware of this.

trident5000··on Twitter users jump to Mastodon, but what is it?
Its almost like Elon hired him knowing hes smart or something...
trident5000··on Jack Dorsey Unveils Bluesky Social, the Decentralized Twitter
Works for me. Getting these clowns off the main sites sounds wonderful.
trident5000··on Twitter launches blue check for $7.99 monthly fee
the astroturfing of whatever this site is has been pretty cringe
trident5000··on Jack Dorsey Unveils Bluesky Social, the Decentralized Twitter
Why does this feel so forced and astroturfed on this site and yet has essentially no traction
trident5000··on Twitter discontinues ad-free articles for Blue subscribers
Theres people out there that actually dont use Ublock?
trident5000··on US Supreme Court poised to ban affirmative action in university admissions
Im well aware of how medians work (1 type of average). The gaps are often calculated by the mean.
trident5000··on US Supreme Court poised to ban affirmative action in university admissions
The average wage gap is driven by billionaires. Poor blacks and whites are all....poor. And theres no need to measure the tallest midget even if theres a slight difference after you net out the .1% who drag up the averages for whites.
trident5000··on US Supreme Court poised to ban affirmative action in university admissions
Its served with a healthy portion of irrationality.
trident5000··on US Supreme Court poised to ban affirmative action in university admissions
You know theres a shit ton of poor white people right? Its like people dont know that or something.
trident5000··on Tesla engineers were on-site to evaluate the Twitter staff’s code, workers said
I never said it was the best way, but it may be the most viable option. And you dont have Tesla engineers personally go through the code, you have them sit down with twitter engineers and have them walk through how it works. Its probably a general understanding exercise.
trident5000··on Tesla engineers were on-site to evaluate the Twitter staff’s code, workers said
I bet they dont.
trident5000··on Tesla engineers were on-site to evaluate the Twitter staff’s code, workers said
Its not stupid because he knows and trusts his engineers at Tesla. He knows nobody at Twitter. Hes probably trying to get an understanding of whats going on without relying on a bunch of employees who might not like him. It takes a while to build an employee base you trust, certainly in his situation.
trident5000··on Tesla engineers were on-site to evaluate the Twitter staff’s code, workers said
This seems ridiculous to me. Self driving cars are cutting edge tech. Social media algos are not for the most part, certainly not Twitters. Top talent goes to wherever cutting edge developments are. If I wanted to participate in developing the future I would choose Tesla over Twitter any day.
