How to be a societal leech and contribute the absolute least you can 101. Sickening.
Then there's the myriad of obvious gaps in features that should be there.
1. You can 'Heart' a track in 'Daily Mix', but you can't un-'Heart' it.
1b. If you accidentally dislike an artist in daily mix, you can't undo that, so that artist won't play anymore.
2. You can like an artist for a certain Radio (and remove the like in the playlist 'liked by radio') but you can't remove an 'unlike'.
3. You can have either a public playlist controlled by you, or a collaborative playlist that's secret. Why not a public collaborative playlist for which I can select which users can edit it?
With most of the above issues there's one overarching thing: counter-intuitivity. You can often do an action (heart, like, etc.), and do so by tapping or clicking on something, but tapping or clicking on the same thing doesn't undo the action (probably because you can't undo the action).. and wouldn't you want to have your friends be able to see/follow your playlist that you built with that one Techno-listening buddy without granting them all editing rights?
I still like Spotify because you have the largest library and are available on the most platforms (Windows/Linux/macOS/Chromecast/Sonos/Digt.Amplifiers/PS4), but its a choice of 'sucks the least' rather than 'is the best'.
I have almost 50Gb of free Dropbox storage btw, through referrals + events like the space race. But that's not really a fair fight anyway, since (aside from Dropbox) no one offers free space in exchange for actions..
Besides that, its pretty easy for me buy either fresh or glass-stored food at the supermarket, both of which are safe (but that easy access could be just because I live in Europe and its more usual to cook at home here).
And don't use the argument that the onus is on me for giving more links. If googling it is too much effort for you, how can you expect me to do it for you..?
Nope. Just nope. Doubtfully on a personal level (Music streaming spread in Europe first with Spotify, for example), but infrastructure-wise the USA is so far behind it isn't even funny. The internet lines suck. The traffic light systems suck. The sewage and water system suck. In-house tech is decades behind Europe (most house furnaces are still the unmodulated on-off type ffs!).
> U.S. has people from almost every country in the world. Most big cities are filled with immigrants. New York City is a prime example of that. It has people from 180 countries and people speak more than 800 languages in the 5 boroughs. This is unprecedented compare to any other country in the world. The most important part is that with such a high concentration of immigrants, people are more accepting of new cultures.
Again, no. Amsterdam has people of a 180 nationalities, for example. Also, because Europe is such a blanket of different countries (= different cultures) we've had to deal with 'new cultures' since before the USA existed. Furthermore, Europe has been (and is) socially more progressive for a very long time. We've had gay marriage much earlier. Drug use has been decriminalized for decades. Prison is rehabilitative instead of punitive.
All this article is basically an immigrant who feels like an American saying 'America, fuck yeah!', whilst not doing a modicum of research (the Amsterdam fact is easily Googleable).
Edit: nice to see downvotes without any discourse. Keep it up HN!

From one phtographer to another, and not to be a dick, but if you're shooting that many photos in one weekend you're doing something wrong.. the only scenario where I can imagine reasonably coming up with that many photos is motion photography with burst. Easiest rule I can give you is to pretend you have an old-style camera with a limited amount of rolls. Imagine how many rolls would be reasonable for the session you're having if it was 1980? If you stick to that, your photo quality will dramatically shoot up and the effort you have to expend sifting will go down a lot.
Oh yeah, and you don't have to be afraid an OS update will make your laptop unbootable. Has happened to me under Ubuntu twice.
Having said that, there are definitely some major issues. One of the most contentious is not having a minimize button by default. Their reasoning is 'well if you close one of our apps, it resumes state when you start it up again, which is effectively the same as minimizing'. Not only do their apps not reliably resume state, most other apps don't support this, and their response is 'well that sucks.. but they should adjust their app to work with our specific distro gimmick kthxbai'. Another big one is multiple Window management: if I have 5 windows open of the same app and want to temporarily hide two of them, minimize accomplishes this easily. With Elementary, I have to pick which one I close last because that one will 'resume state'.
Another baffling thing is them not using the 'global menu' in the menubar that Ubuntu (and macOS) have. The global menu is probably one of the main reasons people like macOS so much (even though they don't realize it).. you know that whatever app you're in, you can always find all actions in the menu bar. Preferences are always under $APPNAME, Print is always under File, Hiding and viewing interface elements is always under View, etc.
Their (Ubuntu's as well) installer also doesn't use home partition encryption by default, nor does it offer an easy way to set up LVM on LUKS. This is a problem with most distros though.. with macOS having your disk FileVaulted is extremely straightforward and simple. It's literally flipping a switch. And the use of it is simple as well: Boot up, enter user password (which is also the encryption password) -> decrypt disk and login.
They also do some funky stuff to the Ubuntu installer since installing 16.04LTS gives me working Wi-Fi on my MBP 2015 Retina, but installing Elementary OS (which is based on the same 16.04LTS) doesn't even detect my Wi-Fi chip. The firmware and driver are there, so it should work (doubly so because same base distro), but it simply doesn't.
It's pretty well known that a lot of girls at universities are there not only for academic purposes, but also to lock down a 'nice' future husband. Biology is what it is..
Edit: be PC and downvote all you want, but its a pretty obvious truth for anyone that did actually attend university.
No, this is the ideal world. Mouse users have more manual accuracy, couch gamers can still have fun vs. mouse users. Combating fringe cases (how many people actually plug in a controller and a mouse at the same time..?) makes no sense. This 'divide' worked like a charm on Titanfall.
