toqy··on Apple is quietly pushing a TV ad product with media agencies
I only got an Xbox 360 because I had an Xbox. I only had an Xbox because it had Halo, Halo 2, and Xbox Live. Price never came into the equation. If Sony had a better online multiplayer story and a killer game like Halo the PS3 things might have gone differently regardless of price point.
toqy··on The Onion defends right to parody in Supreme Court brief
Honestly that's probably one of the few Babylon Bee headlines that are somewhat decent. You can see why it's probably funny to their audience, they are like "lol stupid commie liberal restaurant virtue signaling". Overall it's pretty funny to me because their own audience that presumably should find it funny would fall for it and get riled up if they don't already know what the Babylon Bee is. It would also be somewhat funny if Applebee's was out here banning individual politicians.

Most of their content isn't that great though. It seems to range from boomer jokes like "NFL Fires Neurologist After Learning His Concussion Protocol Was Just To Look For Cartoon Tweeting Birds Flying Around Player's Head" to the completely stale "X identifies as Y" type.

toqy··on High-performance image generation using Stable Diffusion in KerasCV
The only reason to use it imo has been if you need mac/m1 support, but that's probably in other forks by now
toqy··on How sustainable are fake meats?
> Order vegetarian when eating out

I've been pretty successful with the opposite, only getting meat when I eat out / special occasion and not stocking it in the house.

toqy··on Launch HN: FlyCode (YC S22) – Let product teams edit web apps without coding
You unit test header text content?
toqy··on Bitwarden raises $100M
Yeah the Rust version works well. I had an issue with it when importing passwords from a file exported from Dashlane, but other than that no issues. And I run it on a bottom tier Digital Ocean vm.
toqy··on Bitwarden raises $100M
It is fairly no frills. But they're gonna have to add some frills if they want to use up that $100M
toqy··on Nearly 90% of U.S. households used air conditioning in 2020
Just a fun fact, no need to get uppity.
toqy··on I spent a year designing a low profile, minimal mechanical keyboard
I think it's fairly normal in the mech keyboard community to buy relatively expensive equipment without every having touched it and waiting a long while for it to arrive

But then if you run it through Prettier it'll add all the closing tags for you :)

toqy··on Tesla to Cut 10% of Jobs
The company, because of unemployment benefits, is what I assume they are saying. You're not eligible if you just quit, you are if you're laid off / fired.
toqy··on Show HN: Svelvet – A component library for building interactive flow diagrams
Imagine how much time Dev2 could have saved by sharing a link instead of name dropping obscure libraries they read about on HN
toqy··on Show HN: Svelvet – A component library for building interactive flow diagrams
Looks like a software bootcamp project, so they probably did it to save time on that bit. But you picked the wrong license if you don't want people to copy you.
toqy··on Tell HN: I'm Afraid We're Shutting Down
I don't think it's new, but a lot of people got a taste of what life is like when they aren't breaking their back for minimum wage thanks to the pandemic
toqy··on What One-person SaaS Healthchecks.io uses for hosting, hardware and software
I fail to see how AWS helps with that though
toqy··on We’re discontinuing the Stablegains service
You’re right, it’s not always a scam. Sometimes it’s just useless.
toqy··on Show HN: An Ephemeral Microblogging App
So it’s pseudo 4chan with fewer and/or slightly different features.

Barebones Twitter with a cheaper data storage bill.

toqy··on Show HN: An Ephemeral Microblogging App
I’ve found lately that having access to Apple’s “hide my email” feature has me signing up for things like this that I usually wouldn’t
toqy··on Designing for non-rectangular browser windows
From the author

> What would it be like to read text on such a device?

> Hell. it would be hell.

Among other similar statements. What’s the value in restating half the point of the article but presenting it as some big brained contrarian take

toqy··on Ask HN: 6-hour workdays more important than 4-day workweeks IMO
What are you doing for the first 5 hours? I typically find that if I'm actually working and not in too many meetings I'm basically checked out after 5 straight hours if I haven't wandered off already.
toqy··on I want an iPhone Mini-sized Android phone
Same, I went from original SE to 11 pro max because of camera envy. Maybe once all of my kids are a bit older I won't care as much about the camera though.
toqy··on Why Google is so unbearable, and how to fix it
Works decent if you both have a powerful phone and sign in and disable the nag to download the app
toqy··on I want an iPhone Mini-sized Android phone
Smaller screened smartphones aren't a new market that needs to be defined though. Most people know what they are by virtue of having lived through the era that they were the only choice.

And as OP pointed out, Apple makes a smaller screened smartphone, so they exist. In some comment on this post someone said that it accounts for 3% of Apple's phone sales.

How big is the group of people that want a smaller smart phone but aren't willing or able to switch to Apple? Who knows. My intuition says not many, but maybe we'll find out through OP's efforts. I'm an iPhone user and the only reason I haven't switched to something like the iPhone Mini is because I want the better camera on the pro's.

I read it as member of the open source community rather than the Microsoft community.
toqy··on Cytopia: Open-source city simulator with pixel-art graphics
In Infraspace there's no zoning as such (you can do it yourself to some extent with their "districts" feature), it's still early access alpha though with hopefully a lot more to come. For some production you need so many of some of the buildings that it's easier to slap them in their own area.

It does have trains, but they are fairly limited use right now and it's pretty car focused.

I'm trying to just do one super long road in my current game.

toqy··on Google terminated our Developer Account, says it is “associated”
I haven't checked in a while, but with Apple you used to have a much better chance of people shelling out money for/in your app.
toqy··on The end of the nice GTK button
If they can’t read “swipe up to open” then they’re going to have a rough time in life in general
toqy··on The end of the nice GTK button
On iPhone you can swipe left on the Lock Screen, or press the icon on the Lock Screen, or you can pick it from a menu you pull down from the top of the screen, or find the app via icon, search, full app list. Maybe other ways I don’t use or know.

I would assume that it’s similar on android, access the camera from lock screen or app. I’d probably try the iPhone style swipe the lock screen if I didn’t see a shutter or camera looking icon, otherwise I’d use search (if I could find that) to find the app.
