toni··on GrapheneOS is the only Android OS providing full security patches
There are tools to make your device appear to every app as running in a non-rooted environment. Here[1] is a tutorial on how to bypass Google/Samsung Wallet detections. There are threads for different apps and it will quickly turn into a cat and mouse play when Playstore app itself updates, but as the phone is rooted, someone will continue to find a way to bypass attestations and will post a comment on Reddit or XDA explaining how to do it.

toni··on Isar Aerospace launches Spectrum, fails early in first stage flight
Launching a rocket from Earth surface looks like such a complex challenge not completely solved, and companies consider a 30-seconds journey a great success.

I have sincerely no intention to trivialize this, but would we ever see rockets launched from Moon or low Earth orbit? It seems so inefficient to launch like how we do now.

Here is an hour long video explaining every stage the earth has gone through:

The Whole History of the Earth and Life - https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=SkeNMoDlHUU

It's really mind boggling how many times earth has seen a mass extinction, followed by life appearing again.

toni··on Google's plan to stop Apple from getting serious about search
That is indeed far less. Hopefully Apple has still put some of that money into rivaling Google search.
toni··on Google's plan to stop Apple from getting serious about search
The article says that in 2021, Google paid Apple around $18 billion to keep Google’s search engine as default in iPhones.

What if Apple would put all that money back into developing its own search engine?! That would be beating Google with its own money!

toni··on Tell HN: Twitter suspends arrested Iranian tech blogger’s account
I think Twitter is blocked in Iran. It has to be, as almost anything else is.
toni··on Tell HN: Twitter suspends arrested Iranian tech blogger’s account
No that hypothetical scenario can't be right. I understand the reasoning behind why not wanting to delete the comment.
toni··on Tell HN: Twitter suspends arrested Iranian tech blogger’s account
The suspension is temporary. Presumably when the person is released, Twitter will reinstate the account. The other reason for suspension is to not compromise DMs and followers. But I also understand your point of view in not wanting to delete it.
toni··on Tell HN: Twitter suspends arrested Iranian tech blogger’s account
I think the authorities are stupider than what you think.

When they arrest someone in a demonstration, they will confiscate their phone and open the apps on the device. If the account is inactive, they can not see anything.

May I ask you to delete your comment if that is not a problem? You basically gave the regime an evidence we said the activists are trying to hide away.

toni··on Tell HN: Twitter suspends arrested Iranian tech blogger’s account
The arrests are not premeditated. They arrest you first, then ask questions
toni··on Tell HN: Twitter suspends arrested Iranian tech blogger’s account
My understanding is that when someone is arrested in Iran, other activists try to shut down that person's social media accounts in order to prevent Iranian authorities going through his/her profiles and gather more incriminating evidence against them. Isn't that what is happening here?
toni··on Tell HN: Happy Thanksgiving Everyone
Hi Taylor!

Clearly you touched on a very sensitive subject. I was also surprised that my link was flagged by this much people, as it was a very informative blog post about the fact that some First Nation tribes might have a different point of view about what Thanksgiving actually means to them.

I did email dang and asked if he can take a look at down votes in this thread. But either way, keep up the good work and don't get disappointed by the sheer amount of injustices!

toni··on Why SQLite succeeded as a database (2016)
But IndexedDB has been struggling very hard from day 1 to be as fast and performant as WebSQL. You can do the benchmark yourself [1]. Try inserting 10000 records. WebSQL is by orders of magnitude faster than IndexedDB.

The people who rejected WebSQL proposal had a lack of decisiveness and technically-focused vision. They also interpreted everything very politically.

toni··on Hacker News Classics (2018)
coincidentally, HN has his own "Classic" page too[1] But it is focused on classic users. The idea is that users who have been around for a while will post quality articles. I just don't know how the threshold works.
