tommaxwell··on Mt.Gox's tweets are all gone
Has to be some real shit 'bout to go down
tommaxwell··on Letters of Last Resort
Episode #399 of This American Life discusses this.

Thanks!
tommaxwell··on I, Glasshole: My Year With Google Glass
I, like others here, have Glass. My girlfriend dumped me and I lost all my friends but hey now I can wink to take a picture so it's all good.
tommaxwell··on Ask HN: Freelancer? Seeking freelancer? (December 2013)
SEEKING WORK - remote, based in San Francisco, California

I'm a web developer that can make fully-responsive websites using HTML5, CSS3, and JavaScript (jQuery, etc). I have also made Tumblr themes before, here is my personal blog which I designed from scratch: http://blog.tommaxwell.me

tommaxwell··on The Life I Didn't Expect
Thank you, your comments mean a lot to me. I agree that when I'm in social situations I'm not comfortable with, like parties, I tend to pull out my phone and move away from the center. Writing is the way I choose to try and cope, but the only way I'm going to ensure I stop dwelling on the past is by doing as you've said and walk through the fog of fear.

Thanks again

tommaxwell··on How much does a Lyft driver earn?
Uber just announced that it has struck deals with auto manufacturers to chop $100-200 off monthly payments for those that are approved to drive for them.

tommaxwell··on Co-working and living spaces in Portland, OR?
Thanks! Much appreciated.
tommaxwell··on I want Square Cash to ask Google Wallet out for drinks.
It'll get phased out. They'll find a way.
tommaxwell··on The San Francisco Exodus
Yup, public transit in areas like Outer Sunset is pretty bad. I've never lived there, but I did stay in a hacker house there once while searching for an apt, and it takes a good 40 minutes on a crowded bus to get to Market St. Also I rarely ever find an Uber or Lyft nearby.
tommaxwell··on Web Application Development on a Chromebook 11?
I use an older HP 14" Chromebook for my web development (Rails, JS, etc) and enjoy it. Most of the time I use Nitrous.io, but it annoyingly disconnects a lot. Other than that love the simple setup.
tommaxwell··on Free housing in SF for talented hackers
Hi,

Not sure who this is, assume this is the house in the Castro with Brackin and others? Really would love to, I'm working on Chakra (http://angel.co/chakra) as a side-project, and would love the opportunity to hang around the area. I write Rails, and have experience in a plethora of front-end JS frameworks (D3.js, Backbone, etc).

Able to relocate immediately, and applying to the Thiel Fellowship so it'd be great to meet current fellows.

tommaxwell··on Microsoft brings 18-year-old game 'Hover' to browser
Not working on my HP Chromebook, sadly.
tommaxwell··on Tell HN: Startup school acceptance emails are out
Got accepted, and requested to be added. :)
tommaxwell··on Google Web Designer
No Chromebook support? Interesting.
tommaxwell··on Show HN: The ugliest MVP ever because I know squat about coding
Definitely a cool concept. Now build it!
tommaxwell··on Keypress: A Javascript library for capturing input
Ooh, I could use this in a project I'm working on. Thanks!
tommaxwell··on We don't want your coffescript
Very solid points. As someone that also enjoys JS as-is, it really frustrates me when people use CoffeeScript in JS answers and tutorials.
tommaxwell··on Ask HN: Are there "Hacker Houses" in the Bay Area that aren't trying to rob me?
Don't think there's anything that fits these requirements right now. I've stayed at ChezJJ, StartupHouse, AND Rise and I agree, the price does seem sort of ridiculous. I think these houses believe they can charge such high prices for the potential collisions and connections gained from others in the house, but I think it's BS.
tommaxwell··on Cheap hosting for Rails app?
Great, thanks. New to all of this so need help along the way.
tommaxwell··on Cheap hosting for Rails app?
No good reason in particular, someone recommended I do it.
tommaxwell··on Ask HN: My startup is ramping up but I have no time. What next?
Investors won't want to invest in someone that isn't fully committed to their vision. Just imagine if someone asked you to invest your hard-earned money in them, but they didn't even believe in their idea enough to actually leave their day job. Would you be comfortable with placing that bet?
tommaxwell··on A new Svbtle layout
I stopped caring since they're so exclusive.
tommaxwell··on Poll: What OS do you currently use?
I use a Macbook Air, but spend most of my time in Ubuntu. I've just come to like doing all my development work in it. I use OS X in places where I run into services that don't support Ubuntu.
tommaxwell··on Puffin Browser
It does feel relatively fast from basic usage, but as long as Apple doesn't let me change my default browser I'll have to pass. Clicking links anywhere else just opens Safari, which is a bummer.

As for the fact that they send my web activity to their own servers for pre-processing, I'm not sure how I feel about that. I'd feel a little more comfortable if their servers were outside of the US (are they? I don't know).

tommaxwell··on The Flattening of Ebook Sales
I actually find myself buying more and more ebooks lately. I find it really convenient for various reasons, including Whispersync (which is quite useful). Also I travel a lot and am in the process of finishing multiple books, so it's obviously convenient to not have to carry giant books around.

I think a lot of factors are influencing this trend, but I don't buy that DRM is the problem. As rude as it may sound, I doubt most of the general public even knows what DRM is. Well, the data itself shows that the majority of consumer book sales are going to paper, so that argument may be moot anyway.

Newer generations probably won't purchase nearly as many paper books (or digital, even) as older generations. It'll be interesting to see how it plays out. The market will probably shrink and be taken over by short-form work designed for tablets and e-readers.

tommaxwell··on Ask HN: How good of a hacker do you have to be to be a technical co-founder?
Before I started building my first web app in Rails, I didn't even know how to write Rails! I had only previously been a front-end developer, but I can say I learned a TON. Am I a Ruby on Rails guru? Nope, but I know how to traverse the stack with the knowledge I do have and get as much done as possible.
