tokamak··on Steam Frame starts at $1059
VR users who want no Meta spyware.
tokamak··on Kode Dot Programmable pocket device for makers, pentesters and geeks
Price is too steep. Cardputer is 30 bucks.
tokamak··on AMD Ryzen AI Halo – $4k AI Dev Kit
No practical reasons. Just cool looks.
tokamak··on The Russian who invented semiconductors 25 years before the USA
We will never know the whole truth as that specific culture typically bend the facts and there are little to no proofs of the claims. During soviet era the narrative was that Russian scientists (soviet elites always preferred Russia over other republics) are behind most of human scientific advantages and others simply steal from them.
tokamak··on The struggle of resizing windows on macOS Tahoe
I find MacOS terrible (any version) and wish my employer would not force Mac upon me. I hope one day we will be able to use Linux on Mac hardware (in enterprise setting).
tokamak··on Arthur C. Clarke predicted a computer-dominated future in the ’70s (2024)
Stenislaw Lem, Dialogues, 1957
tokamak··on YouTube asks channel owner to verify phone, permanently overwrites personal info
How else to block sanctioned country individuals? This is a problem on YouTube where American company is basically supporting regimes indirectly.
tokamak··on Entropic Engineering DEFCON 32 Statement
Seems like they conveniently omitted some facts here. Very fishy.
tokamak··on Coral Dev Board Micro
Something like it but with (large) in-memory computation would be a welcome addition. Ability to run LLMs on edge platforms needs to be addressed. The question is: will it take 1 or 10 years. Sadly the coral was already outdated when released.
tokamak··on Security Issue: Cloud Site Manager presented me your consoles, not mine
Feels like the issue Steam had with caching https://securityaffairs.com/43189/security/steam-users-data-...
tokamak··on Croatia could be Europe's hidden tech haven in 2024
It is a nice country but unlikely due to the small tech scene and lack of venture funding.
tokamak··on DevOps Is Bullshit (2022)
DevOps = reducing black boxes at the cost of Dev team load

Platform engineering = building black boxes (abstractions) to reduce Dev team mental load at the expense of nobody understanding how to fix issues

tokamak··on The QR-code menu is being shown the door
I love QR menus, I live in Asia though.
tokamak··on Convincing ChatGPT to Eradicate Humanity with Python Code
I can definitely write better code with copilot due to faster iterations and much better code coverage. I believe we are a paper away before this can start improve of existing code itcluding the code of itself.
tokamak··on Intel on Demand
You need to pay for extra license to enable CPU features.
tokamak··on Is it time to retire the .gb top level domain?
But when United Kingdom will split, what will Britain use?
tokamak··on AdBlue shortage threatens EU supply chains
Maybe tank itselft not but exhaust composition via NOx lambda probe? Yes, it can stop a truck.
tokamak··on Indian Air Force inducts natively developed light combat helicopter ‘Prachanda’
That's what he did. I can think of much worse.
tokamak··on The Restaurant Industry’s Worst Idea: QR Code Menus
I love QR menus. I live in Singapore though were things are well designed and efficient. Pretty much all menus are web applications, some restaurants allow to pay directly from the menu web page.
tokamak··on Available Today: Windows Dev Kit 2023 a.k.a. Project Volterra
Too little too late. Apple silicon remains king of value. M1 Linux advances. I guess it's time to go Apple...
tokamak··on Stadia died because no one trusts Google
Agree. He is not bad of a manager, but there is no vision in him.
tokamak··on Literate DevOps (2014)
DevOps used to be elite. Few years of deveoper experience + cloud/containers knowledge to make all things run smoothly.

Nowadays DevOps is also fresh graduate who compiles embedded code for internet-disconnected 16 bit system.

I wish industry would standarise roles and responsibilities for the sake of job seekers and employers alike.

tokamak··on GTA VI Leak [video]
Games that utilize techniques available on the latest generations of hardware. For example ray-tracing. Ratchet & clank, Returnal, Astro's Playroom. On PC decent example is HL Alyx.

There is a huge expectation towards GTA since Rockstar has a history of being one of the best. The RDR2 was stunning on the previous gen.

tokamak··on GTA VI Leak [video]
I agree that it does not look next-gen at all but let's comment when they actually release the game. From what we know this can be ancient build.
tokamak··on The need for quantum computers remains small
Nice example!
tokamak··on The need for quantum computers remains small
Can QC simulate that?
tokamak··on The need for quantum computers remains small
Obviously not
tokamak··on Rocky Linux 9.0
RedHat benefit is support. You can sue them if something goes wrong ;) Good engineering is using on local what is used on servers. RHEL definitely is about servers foremost. There are many industries where RHEL is a must. Amazon Linux is derivative of RHEL. Good point about containers.
tokamak··on Show HN: I developed a fast general purpose sorting algorithm
I love how they handled sorting in Python: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Timsort. Good for vast majority of use-cases + formal verification.
tokamak··on Terraform should have remained stateless
Pulumi is TF alternative but it is not managed like CF. CDK uses CF underneath with all its issues.
