tmn··on 'My Husband Has No Friends'
It feels like an intentionally provocative/obtuse article meant to evoke an emotional reaction and drive engagement
tmn··on Being ambitious and being a dad
Yeah I can accept that point of view. I think this is highlighting a certain relationship expectation delta between men (or at least myself) and women (or some women). If my wife is doing well in her career and we are doing well with the kids, I could easily see this being considered ‘good’, but my wife may view the relationship as being neglected. I see the core functions working and consider the relationship doing well.

This situation is in development for me so we will see. 0 and 3 year old

tmn··on Being ambitious and being a dad
Nitpick comment. But is kids and career really a valid pick two choice
tmn··on Molotov cocktail is hurled at home of Sam Altman
I'm confused what your core disagreement is? It seems like you're narrowing in on some relatively unimportant detail. Using your own source, what is the likely explanation for the tape shenanigans? Who cares if op was inaccurate to the exact specifics of the missing footage? Or am I not understanding the implication of the article you cited?
tmn··on What old tennis players teach us (2017)
Lol. I didn’t realize how important audience following was to winning tennis matches.
tmn··on What old tennis players teach us (2017)
A possible factor on your observation is females athletically peaking earlier.

Edit. A quick investigation shows there is not a significant age difference between men and women for both top 10 player lists and top 100 player lists

tmn··on The unbearable joy of sitting alone in a café
Exercising is doing some activity that is good for your health. You’ve reduced this to some narrow set of activities that presumably make you stronger, faster, or better at some other easy to measure metric. I assure you it’s easy to enjoy exercising if your incentive is longevity and simply healthy living by a more subjective metric
tmn··on USD share as global reserve currency drops to lowest since 1994
Read ‘float’
tmn··on USD share as global reserve currency drops to lowest since 1994
There’s nothing fundamentally stopping all currencies from floating against gold and gold being the base asset
tmn··on Trying two dozen different psychedelics
I’d venture to assume the downvotes are simply because you’re taking a relatively neutral topic and mapping it onto a polarized political subject
tmn··on Trying two dozen different psychedelics
In my case, the people I looked up to generally had tried these things and reported them as valuable or interesting experiences. So I decided to ‘roll’ the dice and am glad I did.
tmn··on US hits $38T in debt. Fastest accumulation of $1T outside pandemic
No one knows what would happen. That is unprecedented. There would be mayhem in financial systems as all types of collateral is vaporized. All types of on paper net worth would collapse towards zero
tmn··on Gold Prices Top $4k for First Time
No
tmn··on The treasury is expanding the Patriot Act to attack Bitcoin self custody
Was there concrete term limits to 'never'. Otherwise I fear you were the naive one.

Snarky comment meant in good humor.

tmn··on Enrollment at trade schools is expected to grow
There’s a significant difference between predicting what it will specifically look like, and predicting sets of possibilities it won’t look like
tmn··on WHY2025: How to become your own ISP [video]
Their claim was that future industry would move to Asia or us. Comparisons of US to EU for present day do nothing to contradict this claim.

I have no take on this claim being true

tmn··on The $25k car is going extinct?
The logic doesn’t scale. You can’t impose arbitrary and subjectives thresholds to gloss over this fact. The obvious conclusion is that safety is one of many moral factors to balance.
tmn··on US Ends Support For Ukrainian F-16s
I think this is a popular but unrealistic take based on real observation.Real observations being. Increase friendliness towards Russia. Decrease friendliness towards Europe/canada. Don’t confuse inflection points with the actual position.
tmn··on How to know when it's time to go
Did you reach your goals?
tmn··on The Demoralization is just Beginning
This seems to be an orthodox opinion I see often, and I get the intuition. But time preference is a real thing. Tech is the easiest example. People buy tech that they don’t need that will be significantly cheaper in the future. I’m not a historical expert, but this specific point didn’t seem to be an issue during the time periods we were on the gold standard.
tmn··on The Demoralization is just Beginning
Care to elaborate? It’s thought provoking as a mechanism to reduce all of this zero sum (or even worse, parasitic) effort that dominates our system.
tmn··on The Demoralization is just Beginning
I’m not following your critique in relation to the article. It seems to encompass your final line. Step up and work harder. No mention of blocking other countries.
tmn··on Global sales of combustion engine cars have peaked
It just reads as present tense. Your point is valid. However, there are going to be how many eye balls that don’t read past the headline and don’t think deeply on it, but now have the impressions that they are currently at a peak
tmn··on Schools reviving shop class
Take your by own advice ;)

Don’t pass up a chance to pee is the advice in question.

Which I’d equate to; Better safe than sorry

tmn··on Inheriting is becoming nearly as important as working
We are not far off from trillionaires. Saying billionaires shouldn’t exist at this point sounds pretty radical to spin in positively
tmn··on Inheriting is becoming nearly as important as working
It’s really incredible how much people feel entitled to in the us. And by entitled, I mean they spend money on these things because it’s beneath them to think they shouldn’t have said experience or thing.
tmn··on Software engineers would rather quit than return to the office [video]
Sure. The company I work at is hybrid in the manner I described.
tmn··on Software engineers would rather quit than return to the office [video]
I believe hybrid in this context means, there is an office and some people come in as little or as much as they want/need, and some people are fully remote.
tmn··on Elon Musk's DOGE team may need a crash course in COBOL
This is a kind of weird rationalization where the conclusion leads the interpretation of the facts.

It’s hard to get away from the fact that space x and Tesla deal with critical systems. And by most accounts, they’ve pushed things forward

tmn··on Ask HN: How do you prevent the impact of social media on your children?
Ahh I just had to share that my 1 year old daughter also loves the grocery store. She doesn't want to leave the cart when it's time to go. Thanks for the comment.
