thunkle··on Blue field entoptic phenomenon
It's similar to tinnutis, and anxiety. You have to learn a degree of non judgemental response to unpleasant phenomena. It's key to resilience. I was helped a ton by the work of Steven C Hayes.
thunkle··on Cardio fitness is a strong, consistent predictor of morbidity and mortality
So the sicker you are the less in shape you are in? Seems obvious to me.
thunkle··on Music for Programming
Need to update that link to Google podcast
thunkle··on My 25-year engineering career retrospective
Learning I was low conscientious was super helpful for my programming career. It explained why I was okay taking big risks which was helpful for my career, but where I needed to spend extra time on unit testing, functional testing, feature flagging etc, since I'm prone to making production incidents.

Also no to-do app in the world works for me, I wish I could make it work and get myself organized.

thunkle··on Lapce
No... It's 30 degrees different.
thunkle··on Anonymous Block Forwarding in Ruby
"Looks pretty nice"... Looks confusing to me. Seeing this code for the first time I think it would be hard to figure out what it means.

thunkle··on Metabolic Step-by-Step: Stages of Fasting in the First 72hrs
I get tachycardia if I don't consume lots of salt throughout starting at 48 hours. I also have insomnia the first night regardless. It gets easier every time because you know what to expect and how to mitigate it.
thunkle··on Sit.
I can't explain it but my brain can't handle that this is a website and not a mobile app.
thunkle··on A brain injury removed my ability to perceive time
It was 50 hours til I felt 100% normal. The bulk of it was in the first several hours.
thunkle··on A brain injury removed my ability to perceive time
I tried a 5mg THC edible last week (new user) and I lost my short term memory for about 50 hours. It was hell because I could still remember some things but my visual memory was 0, so it was like I was always coming out of a dark cloud that's 15 seconds behind me, but perceiving now in full clarity. It really messed with my perception of time. I wonder how many times I thought: "what's going on... ok you lost your short term memory... but now is so clear... but it won't be soon... how long has this been happening... " I cried 40 hours in because I didn't know if it would ever come back. Luckily it did and I'm here a week later with hopefully little scars.
thunkle··on Scientists simulate backward time travel using quantum entanglement
Wow these ads are intrusive. I just got done listening to Penrose talking about this. Interesting timing.
thunkle··on Michael Bloomberg pumps $500M into bid to close all US coal plants

Is it just my phone or are all the "s"s and "f"s accidently mathematical notation on the first book.
thunkle··on Covid patients breathe out large amounts of virus early on
Also. I think it's rational for myself to wear a mask because getting COVID was one of the worst experiences of my life. It's like if I burned my hand on a stove and someone tried to convince me burning your hand on the stove is normal so no need to take precautions.
thunkle··on Earth had hottest 3-months on record; unprecedented sea temps & extreme weather
I'm discouraged that politics ever even comes into this. It makes as much sense as the left likes masks and the right doesn't like masks. I wish everyone could admit this is an issue and move forward.

thunkle··on Ask HN: How do you not take criticism of your work personally?
Learn about the concept of diffusion as explained in ACT (acceptance and commitment therapy) best taught by the book: A Liberated Mind by Steven C Hayes. Basically following a set of practices to distance your thoughts from yourself so you can not buy into them.

One of the practices I've felt most helpful is to name the entity that is arguing in your mind and is telling you to take it personally. I named my voice Herman. I often tell him to shut up. It's a great way to distance yourself, albeit, it does sound a little mad.
