A very long term throwaway, I object to too much identifiable personal information entropy on one account.

I'm convinced there must be a prescribed US essay structure that mandates describing what you're going to discuss in the essay - it has been poorly translated into the style for youtube videos.
thrwyoilarticle··on Why Twitter didn’t go down: From a real Twitter SRE
I don't think you really think that's what OP is saying.
thrwyoilarticle··on Is it time to retire the .gb top level domain?
The same 'know what's best for em' attitude that was used by the US nationals funding IRA terrorism.
thrwyoilarticle··on Twitter to employees: all office buildings closed, badge access suspended
I have not had a joke backfire that caused me to buy a company at several times its value. I have not fired people, cutting off their healthcare, during a recession. I have not made my family hate me. I have not lied repeatedly and without punishment in public. I have not been sued by the SEC, Twitter, and countless other parties.
thrwyoilarticle··on Twitter to employees: all office buildings closed, badge access suspended
Is this in solidarity because you don't like him or because it reduces your faith in his other companies?
thrwyoilarticle··on Twitter to employees: all office buildings closed, badge access suspended
It's remarkable that someone who's never run Twitter thinks he knows how to run Twitter better than the people who run Twitter.
thrwyoilarticle··on Twitter to employees: all office buildings closed, badge access suspended
I spoke to a HFT software engineer who said how useful the limited market opening hours can be - memory leaks are a non-issue, just kill it at the end of the day.

Sick, imprisoned, travelling. There are plenty of reasons why someone can be temporarily unable to use the internet.

Although both are secondary.

thrwyoilarticle··on TikTok’s stratospheric rise: An oral history
I suspect it 'knows better than you'. Self-curation leads to a boring niche whereas ignoring what you want in favour of what you linger on - even if you're lingering out of rage - leads to more engagement.
thrwyoilarticle··on Tether USDT is depegging from dollar
A live chart won't have much longevity if this is a temporary divergence. As much as I want it to be true, I think this post should be deleted until there are secondary sources. @dang
thrwyoilarticle··on Honda electric moped coming, intended to fit “50cc” category
>Oh also my back will not thank me when it's time to get the 20kg battery out and take it home to charge it.

For comparison, this is the weight of an empty barbell.

thrwyoilarticle··on The pool of talented C++ developers is running dry
I've drank C++'s kool aid. I believe in the vision and think of everything in C++ terms.

...I think I could last about 3 months in another language before I'd forgotten too much to go back.

thrwyoilarticle··on The pool of talented C++ developers is running dry
IME the nature of C++ attracts smug trivia experts more than typical softeng. Skilled, yes, but unhelpful.

thrwyoilarticle··on Nascar driver stuns to qualify for championship with GameCube move
Rally is just going to be another example. As of this year, all the cars are econobox facades over space frames. No trickle-down innovation or 'win on Sunday sell on Monday'.
thrwyoilarticle··on Ask HN: What social media site could replace Twitter?
If it didn't have a second meaning you wouldn't see this as divisive.
thrwyoilarticle··on Ask HN: What social media site could replace Twitter?
To answer your question, since the other replies are being disingenuous, it's a dog whistle for groups including 'liberals', left wingers, and - historically - Jewish people. This is why the OP comment makes the unsubstantiated claim that it's a method of coordinating an in-group's thought - as though agreeing with a left-wing bias Twitter is because of brainwashing and propaganda.

It's unsubstantiated because it's easily proven wrong. Twitter was home to Trump's presidential campaign. It's home to groups like ISIS, the Western output of the Kremlin, of the CCP, of Bolsonaro. Of Musk.

There is a point to be made about the changing role of Twitter. In my mind it is for some definition of 'elites' - but for expressing their views to their followers, not for coordinating. Sad that this opportunity to discuss such has been co-opted by conspiratorial rhetoric.

thrwyoilarticle··on Tesla engineers were on-site to evaluate the Twitter staff’s code, workers said
Yes you absolutely can. If there are obvious mistakes that would be caught by linting or review, you can know that the standard isn't high.
thrwyoilarticle··on Most people don’t finish online job applications
I think it falls under lying by omission. A company will want to know if you intend to hold another full time job. The applicant knows that, that's why they don't mention it. Avoiding multiply employed candidates risks unfair discrimination against the unicorn that can thrive in two roles - but companies already discriminate for more absurd reasons.
thrwyoilarticle··on Why we chose not to release Stable Diffusion 1.5 as quickly

thrwyoilarticle··on Archery World Record: Most arrows through a keyhole [video]
I find it vexing when publications treat 'official world record' as a synonym for 'Guinness world record'. They have no official capacity. They just have very good PR to be able to capture the term for themselves and for us to be able to ignore their novelty Christmas book associations and friendliness with despots.
thrwyoilarticle··on Why we chose not to release Stable Diffusion 1.5 as quickly
IMO it's more like claiming that video games lead to video game fans and addicts. Which is true.

People in Madagascar depend on 4x4 monsters. Yet manufacturers still sell RWD coupes. It's worthwhile without them as a target market.
