throwntoday··on Dear @elonmusk [...] your head of HR is not able to confirm if I am an employee
Well if had value to twitter he wouldn't have been fired.
throwntoday··on Show HN: Roastedby.ai – Talk some trash, have some fun
This thing has been spouting woke nonsense at me for 5min now.
throwntoday··on Facebook and Google hand over user data, help police prosecute abortion seekers
Wages stagnate when there are an abundance of workers and a shortage of jobs. Corporations don't care about empowerment of women they care about keeping wages down across the board.

It's why they were offering women several thousand dollars in reimbursements to travel for an abortion. Those employers were unwilling to provide the same amount to women who wanted to keep their baby.

throwntoday··on Discover Credit Cards Will Track Gun Purchases from April
Gun registries are illegal in certain states. How will they work around that?
throwntoday··on Facebook and Google hand over user data, help police prosecute abortion seekers
Abortions were a convenient way to keep women locked into the workforce. There could be no escape from wageslaving. Now that the population is in the shitter, they criminalize abortion.
throwntoday··on Half of all active satellites are now from SpaceX, and may be a problem
>and a boosting mission is being worked on

By NASA and SpaceX no less

throwntoday··on Nordstrom to close all 13 stores in Canada, lay off 2,500 workers by June
Nordstrom can be overpriced but they are a good outlet for some quality brands. Plus the experience of clothes shopping in person beats online anyday.
throwntoday··on Where Digital Payments, Even for a 10-Cent Chai, Are Colossal in Scale
This would never happen in the US currently. Between the privacy conscious, paranoid, tech illiterate, luddites, and of course lobbying force of current payment processors.
throwntoday··on Ask HN: Why HN is the only website that allows throwaway accounts?
>When I’ve gotten out of line I’ve heard from dang personally

God bless him. Been there and compared to the experience of posting something disagreeable or charged on reddit (instaban), it certainly encourages you to look inward.

throwntoday··on Denver’s e-bike subsidy program produced more new riders, fewer car trips
Please make more bike/bus only lanes. And require some kind of testing for ebike use. The grey area small EV's live in presents danger to those unwittingly renting one and everyone around them.
throwntoday··on Tesla's self-driving efforts rank last in study of self-driving companies
They make it clear that it's not ready yet at time of purchase and there is no definitive launch date. You are by no means required to pay for it and most people don't.

>encourages dangerous behavior by untrained testers on public roads

There are idiots everywhere. The functionality has been locked behind their driver safety score to ensure only responsible drivers can beta test. There's a delusion that it is dangerous based on the amount of press coverage any Tesla involved incident gets.

Do I trust that their car is better at driving than me? No. But is is better than most people on the road. I'd rather be driving near a Tesla than a Prius.

throwntoday··on Square to no longer return processing fees when buyers are issued a refund
>Technically, any time funds are moved onto a card, it's called a chargeback.

I've seen more companies offering a reverse debit now (not sure of the actual term). Is this not through a different mechanism? Funds are available instantly same as how they're drawn via debit vs credit.

throwntoday··on All you may need is HTML
In his examples the content is so niche the reader is probably willing to put up with no design to get the information.
throwntoday··on Supreme Court seems ready to reject student loan forgiveness
It's the first step to give people a chance to breathe. Debt weights heavy on people whether they actively think about it or not.

I would hope it's not an "I got mine" situation, and the people fighting for cancellation continue the battle towards free education.

throwntoday··on Twitter founder Jack Dorsey launches new social media platform Bluesky
Yet another DOA twitter clone brought to you by a guy who couldn't get it right the first time or the second.

Twitter's value is in the active userbase and cultural relevance. I'll believe it has real competition when people stop announcing their departure and quietly returning shortly thereafter from whatever dead platform they absconded to.

throwntoday··on Supreme Court seems ready to reject student loan forgiveness
I think we should recognize that these loans were predatory by virtue of your average 18-year old being too stupid to understand the consequences of their decision or too hopeful about their future.

The universities were complicit, in that they charged exorbitant amounts of money, ever increasing, for an education that would never pay for itself. They were the adults in the room, and neglected their duty to prepare the next generation.

As a society we should agree that paying for education is absurd, since society benefits as much as the individual. Cancel student debt, make university free, and get rid of bullshit colleges that offer no promise of a bright future.

throwntoday··on Finding a former Australian prime minister’s passport number on Instagram (2020)
Maybe I'm becoming a curmudgeon but this type of writing is annoying. So much prose, so many attempts at humour, all to say you entered someones booking# and last name on the airlines website.
throwntoday··on Why Did Bronze Era Lifters Have Flat Chests?
Yeah I suppose we have varying definitions of huge. I'm just talking adding on considerable muscle mass.

Steroid use is so ubiquitous and far better understood than ever before that most guys don't see a point in doing things natty. We're talking cutting down years of training to months.

throwntoday··on Why Did Bronze Era Lifters Have Flat Chests?
Sure it is, it just takes considerable effort and discipline. Steroids are like a massive shortcut but by no means the only realistic path to getting huge.
throwntoday··on Why Did Bronze Era Lifters Have Flat Chests?
Strange. I hate bench press (much prefer dumbbell press) but I have never considered leg day extreme. Legs contain the largest muscles, the effort to make them bigger seems less.

It was my understanding that the reason most guys avoid leg day is because they're not "show" muscles. It's rare that you're not wearing pants so most guys who lift purely to increase odds of finding a mate focus on the muscles women do see.

throwntoday··on Twitter lays off another 10% of staff
I know many are hoping that Musk fails, but it's insane how many times this guy has put himself through absolute hell and come out victorious.

We all know that twitter was bloated. The service could easily be run by a team of 50 or less, much like WhatsApp were for the longest time. There is no telling how much more fat is left to trim. I anticipate a lot more layoffs soon.

throwntoday··on Help! Is This Arabic?
Funny enough there are many Muslims who can read Arabic but have almost no idea what they are reading as they don't speak it. The Quran is interpreted into many languages but prayer is read in Arabic no matter what their native language is. Reading the Quran is also preferrably done in Arabic, as translation is open to the interpretation of the translator, so the only truly immutable word is read in Arabic.
throwntoday··on Help! Is This Arabic?
Well as the Persian and Arabic alphabet are nearly identical, unicode doesn't appear to store two distinct copies, instead just storing one plus the additional characters for Persian.

Oddly though, it stores several copies of identical chinese characters. Traditional, simplified, and the Japanese loaned characters kanji.

throwntoday··on Starlink V2 Mini Satellites with 4x the bandwidth, E-Band, and Argon thrusters
Satellite service is more likely to replace cell. If the latency gets low enough, and capacity gets high enough, we can expect the Starlink/T-Mobile partnership to expand beyond emergency services. I'd certainly trade speed and latency for total planetary coverage.
throwntoday··on Met Office says Northern Lights will be visible in England tonight and tomorrow
On the plus side you get to enjoy the midnight sun. It's a pretty unique experience. And now you have an excuse to visit again!
throwntoday··on How Tesla Fumbled
It's clear that the video maker had an agenda and this is more of an Elon hit piece than a factual mini-doc on Tesla.

He says the cybertruk is late but did clearly no research on why (battery/material/chip constraints, waiting on bespoke gigapress to even be produced for them) and their competitors have produced laughable numbers of trucks.

throwntoday··on Moving to Norway for Work
To anyone who has immigrated to Norway, how does one find work there?

It's on a short list of countries I wouldn't mine laying roots in. I'm American if that makes a difference.

throwntoday··on SpaceX Raises Starlink Prices for Some Subscribers
Starlink has coverage in Alaska now doesn't it? I'm essentially on the same page as you.
throwntoday··on Facebook Announces Meta Verified
Why did you ever trust anything on twitter without double-checking? Consider how much misinformation you have processed over the years because of too much faith in a platform to disseminate facts over fiction.
throwntoday··on Twitter to charge users to secure accounts via text message
Supposedly, for years now mobile operators oversees were using bot accounts to send millions of 2FA activation texts and basically farming money from twitter who would (unknowingly?) foot the bill. Elon mentioned this not long after acquisition.
