throwaway7ahgb··on CrowdStrike Update: Windows Bluescreen and Boot Loops
It wouldn't work, the SEC has incredible tools for finding these things.

Especially for the mom/pop investors.

You can also just say things you don't understand are always created by fools.

Now, there are some fools buying these stocks. But to say that each one of these has a high P/E because every shareholder is a fool is very reductionary.

throwaway7ahgb··on The only tourist in Moldova
There are many countries where Russian is spoken as a language and when people identify as "Russian" it is mostly the traditions and history. It has nothing to do with geopolitics.

It is language, religion, family values, holidays, food, celebrations, traditions, etc.... This is what is meant by identifying as Russian.

There are people proud to say they have this heritage, it doesn't mean you are a Putin lover and want to recapture the former USSR.

throwaway7ahgb··on The only tourist in Moldova
People not born in ex-USSR countries will not understand these statements, especially today.

I have been in these audits and nowhere does it say that software has to be 'auto updated', this is a ridiculous statement and requirement.

What a proper audit will look for is a update and testing control with supporting evidence.

throwaway7ahgb··on Ryanair – when every page is a dark pattern
How is this any different than banks that charge outrageous fees for converting currencies, or heck even currency retail brokers in high traffic tourist destinations.

>>They then charge you to use an app to scan your ID, some ridiculously low amount like 60 cents.

They are probably not doing the IDV themselves, they are using a another service that charges per ID.

Now, it maybe ridiculous that they are passing the cost through, but it's actually interesting that it is a option that people can choose or not.

If they didn't do this, they would just increase the costs by 60c for everyone.

throwaway7ahgb··on Americans' confidence in higher education has taken a nosedive
IMHO you should be downvoted for comments such as "It's not because anyone in the Republican party actually cares about any of this". This dismisses 100M+ people and their beliefs.
throwaway7ahgb··on Why is Sweden paying grandparents to babysit?
IRS should beat companies where they don't take it or don't offer it?
throwaway7ahgb··on Congress accidentally legalized THC six years ago
Yup, a much more simple version of the Sears model. The business was worth 0, but the land was worth quite a bit.
throwaway7ahgb··on Congress accidentally legalized THC six years ago
I speculate that congress gets negative approval ratings as they are the proxy for the federal government agencies.

If you rep isn't "fixing" your issues with these oversight agencies, you hate the agency AND your rep.

throwaway7ahgb··on Congress accidentally legalized THC six years ago
So which state that is primarily controlled by one party have all these things?

Hint: None, because it's not as easy as a party system. Not all voters agree on these issues.

throwaway7ahgb··on Immunotherapy Is Changing Cancer Treatment Forever
Don't make it morbid then? Just talk to them and let them get to know who you are.

That itself is incredibly difficult as most people can't describe who they are beyond their name and title.

throwaway7ahgb··on Just Be Rich (2021)
Because when the US was settled (not that long ago), 90%+ of people were farmers.

Now the East and West coast voters see no value in these farms so want the government to tax them away. They also naively think that the local farmers market can supply the country's food supply.

throwaway7ahgb··on Just Be Rich (2021)
100%

I come from a family of farmers. The land is worth a lot but also has large notes on them. If you see the way these farmers live, NOBODY would call them rich. They never sell and the land gets passed from generation to generation.

All the income from farming goes back into the farm (notes, taxes, supplies, maintenance).

throwaway7ahgb··on Just Be Rich (2021)
That is the current minimum, and that's because it was taught hard by one political party.

If not, these farms would be wiped out and very large corporations would own them all.

throwaway7ahgb··on Just Be Rich (2021)
Or the US is smarter and realizes it's a failing policy.

We can have a debate which country is more prosperous between the US and the entire EU.

throwaway7ahgb··on Just Be Rich (2021)
Another view:

1) California is so popular because it has beautiful weather and natural resources. A group of monkeys could govern the state into prosperity.

2) California has also had the highest number of power outages amongst all states.

throwaway7ahgb··on Just Be Rich (2021)
The 'State' here is confounded. The State also refers to USA. If you give up citizenship and leave the US, they will tax you on exit. It's ridiculous.

I should be able to give up citizenship or move to another country and pay a cent to the US government.

throwaway7ahgb··on Just Be Rich (2021)
The old top tax rates are constantly echo'd around and not relevant towards any conversation.

The only thing that matters is what the effective rate was. They could create a 100% tax bracket but if nobody paid it, it's just words in a book.

throwaway7ahgb··on Just Be Rich (2021)
I lived in London and left after paying 50%+ income on taxes. I also had to get private healthcare because I couldn't wait weeks to see a doctor.

So no, it's not just US Republicans, please stop.

throwaway7ahgb··on Just Be Rich (2021)
It's kind of amazing when people talk about a tax failing as a bad thing. This leads me to believe that most people want taxes on wealth for punishment and no other reason.
throwaway7ahgb··on Just Be Rich (2021)
It was most likely already taxed.

If I invest my paycheck in the market, that money was already taxed at 30-40%. Now I make a dollar in the stock market , and it's taxed again at 20%.

This get ridiculous fast.

throwaway7ahgb··on Just Be Rich (2021)
Maybe, but then let me capture my long and short term gains together to offset gains.

It's crazy that if I have a $5k loss in year one, I can't completely offset it in year 2 if I have a 5k gain. Now I can only use 3k going forward forever.

throwaway7ahgb··on As an Employee, You Are Disposable (2023)
These comments miss so much nuance. This isn't black and white.

I don't want to work for a union not because I'm a rising star. It's because I know I'm on the right of a normal distribution. I don't want to revert to median pay. No thanks.

throwaway7ahgb··on As an Employee, You Are Disposable (2023)
Risk / Reward balance.

The place I work at is cut-throat. The company says that we are NOT a family, we are a team (Like professional baseball). Some people are better at other teams (Aka not fit for this company and get traded).

However they pay very well (Cash and benefits) and I can handle it. The people that cannot should work at places more like USPS or smaller shops.

throwaway7ahgb··on As an Employee, You Are Disposable (2023)
Same here, and unions are not much farther from the old school organized crime gangs.

The unions in NYC protect the union. They care about little else.

throwaway7ahgb··on As an Employee, You Are Disposable (2023)
This is a heart felt message but has nothing to do with SWE pay. You don't make any suggestions here at all, am I supposed to interrupt this as everyone gets paid the same? If that is the case, say it.

If everyone is paid the same, who sets these salaries, unions? Then who sets the non union pay? Or does everyone work for the union or government?

throwaway7ahgb··on As an Employee, You Are Disposable (2023)
This is not an ideal way to run most companies however I can see this work under a few conditions.

1) This policy is known and communicated to current and future hires.

2) The company has found a way to pay each person the current market rate and makes efforts to adjust accordingly.

Otherwise why would anyone stay?

throwaway7ahgb··on As an Employee, You Are Disposable (2023)
It is not literally just a betting shop for shareholders. Most companies aren't even public or have shares.

Using FAANG as the example for all jobs is not useful even though this is HN.
