Musk was not happy. The concept of “privacy teams” did not warm his heart. “I am the decision-maker at this company, not the privacy team,” he said. “I don’t even know who they are. They are so private you never know who they are.” There were some nervous laughs. “Perhaps we can have a pop-up where we tell people that if they use FSD [Full Self-Driving], we will collect data in the event of a crash,” he suggested. “Would that be okay?”
The woman thought about it for a moment, then nodded. “As long as we are communicating it to customers, I think we’re okay with that.”
Glad this guy is the richest man in the world, we are in good hands. It's so comforting to see Musk's attitude when he found out about the privacy team and their temerity to bind him with silly "privacy rules".
Car emissions were actively poisonous before California forced CARB restrictions. Adaptation made for a rough few years but eventually the automakers figured it out and everybody benefited in the long run. The car companies would not have had the guts to undergo that exercise if left to their own devices. It's an insurmountable collective action problem - one company nerfing its powertrain means its competition will eat its lunch. But it's different when all the companies are issued the same handicap.
We balance each other out, I think?
It's just too damn expensive. Taxis are much cheaper than Ubers at SeaTac now!
You are free to take the bus or ride a bike if one is incapable of driving safely. The rest of society isn't forced to suffer.
Then, when the battery fell below 50% of its maximum charge, the algorithm would show drivers more realistic projections for their remaining driving range, this person said. To prevent drivers from getting stranded as their predicted range started declining more quickly, Teslas were designed with a “safety buffer,” allowing about 15 miles (24 km) of additional range even after the dash readout showed an empty battery, the source said.
The directive to present the optimistic range estimates came from Tesla Chief Executive Elon Musk, this person said.
“Elon wanted to show good range numbers when fully charged,” the person said, adding: “When you buy a car off the lot seeing 350-mile, 400-mile range, it makes you feel good.”
My Chevrolet Bolt is now exceeding EPA by a pretty healthy margin at summertime temps.
