therouwboat··on Show HN: Quake ported to safe Rust, playable in browser
But thats just good old hacking, you can already see where software connects and try to see if you can get in.

I'm much more worried about AI made software that is developed so quickly that nobody knows what it does, pdfcraft was published a week ago and it has had 5 releases since then.

Do you mean that bad actors can reverse engineer photoshop and hack its users or that bad actors can whip out plausible photoshop clone with vulnerabilities and backdoors and hack users with that?
therouwboat··on Vibecoding Photoshop: Time and pressure
Why not just ask for an image?

If I have magic box that can give me anything, I'm not going to ask for tools and materials to build a house, I'm gonna ask for a house.

therouwboat··on Wikimedia Foundation Workers Overwhelmingly Vote to Form Union with CWA
You can fire people when it makes sense, for example if there is not enough work, but you cant lay off half of your workers and demand that the rest work twice as hard.

In my country we don't have minimum pay in law, but union contract defines minimum pay and they also negotiate collective salary increases. So everyone (even non-union workers) gets higher pay because of unions.

therouwboat··on Statichost.eu – European static site hosting
I tried this few weeks ago and there was no authentication on rebuild trigger, so anyone who knows your site url can start build and deploy. I don't know if things have improved since then.
therouwboat··on OpenShot 4.0 – Open-source video editor
Oh no! He was detained by ICE and send off to Uganda.
therouwboat··on How to survive boiling water
I was in Finland during covid and nobody forced me to take vaccine, but I figured that as healthy middle aged man covid is probably not that bad and if I can handle covid then side effects from vaccine are really nothing.
therouwboat··on $100 AI Music Video: Claude Fable 5 vs. GPT-5.6 Sol
I don't think that was fair comparison, earlier comment was that creative person can make million dollar art without having million dollar budget, then again creative person can splash paint on canvas while being dead drunk and make most valuable painting.

Most people find it more impressive if you learn to play Dream theater song on guitar than if you program it in daw.

therouwboat··on Microsoft fire idTech team at Id software
I don't know how things work in your country, but here in europe union sets minimum wage for a position/skill level. If you work more, you get paid more in overtime pay, if you are more skilled, usually you have higher wage.

And atleast in my work, everyone is paid more than minimum.

therouwboat··on The CEO of Mullvad is the main financer of the Swedish Örebro party
Recently? Some people have been saying foreigners are bad for 30 years.
therouwboat··on The CEO of Mullvad is the main financer of the Swedish Örebro party
They need to get permission, but they can work. I did mention that this person wanted all foreigners out.
therouwboat··on The CEO of Mullvad is the main financer of the Swedish Örebro party
Its not that they start to feel numb, they didn't care in the first place. I have had random co-workers start talking about how they don't want foreigners in Finland and that in Sweden immigrants (maybe you) get free money and don't work.
therouwboat··on The CEO of Mullvad is the main financer of the Swedish Örebro party
they probably forget all those other promises once they get to power
therouwboat··on AI has a multiplying effect on existing technical skills
Is this a joke? Smartest people on the planet never thought about telling AI to just write better code?
therouwboat··on OpenClaw Creator Spent $1.3M on OpenAI Tokens in 30 Days
I assume there is already bunch of openclaw rivals, so why bother? Its not like they all become super popular and get bought by openai.
therouwboat··on If AI writes your code, why use Python?
Come on now, how do you learn anything if you just tell claude to do something and feed it error messages?
therouwboat··on Louis Rossmann offers to pay legal fees for a threatened OrcaSlicer developer
I never had any problem with prusa default filament settings and printing is easy with prusalink or usb stick.
therouwboat··on Louis Rossmann offers to pay legal fees for a threatened OrcaSlicer developer
I did quick search and bambu p2s seems to be 30% faster than prusa mk4s and few hundred cheaper. Prusa is more accurate, more open and has better spare parts supply. Bambu doesn't have wifi connection unless I use their cloud?

I'm gonna keep using mk4s.

therouwboat··on Molotov cocktail is hurled at home of Sam Altman
We had billion dollar AI company install vending machine that was giving stuff away for free, so maybe AI users don't have common sense.
therouwboat··on Artemis II will use laser beams to live-stream 4K moon footage at 260 Mbps
maybe they should turn back and do it again
therouwboat··on Ask HN: Why there are no actual studies that show AI is more productive?
Yeah, AI people like to talk about how their kid made a mario bros game in a weekend, so big adults should be doing crysis clones in same time, right?
therouwboat··on MacBook Neo
You mean all of that running all the time is 70gb?

I tried freecad + blender with 8 mil sculpt model + prusaslicer, but that was only 11gb, so I added pycharm + steam and cyberpunk 2099 and that was 19gb.

therouwboat··on Why every automaker is quietly bringing back the inline-six engine
In my country its based on emissions, 1.6l 4 cyl 140g/km co2 is ~150e, 3 litre V6 300g/km ~500e.
therouwboat··on Silver plunges 30% in worst day since 1980, gold tumbles
People who buy gold are strangely careless, I have workmate who has bought gold with his savings and probably everyone who has spend more than 5 minutes in his presence knows about it.
therouwboat··on Mozilla right now (Digital Painting)
"A web browser, often shortened to browser, is an application for accessing websites. When a user requests a web page from a particular website, the browser retrieves its files from a web server and then displays the page on the user's screen."
therouwboat··on Firefox will have an option to disable all AI features
Co-worker was talking about how he tried to make invitation card with chatgpt, just a picture of his house and text and AI failed to do it. It said he didn't have copyright to the picture and used another random pic, layout was wrong etc. Then younger co-worker gave tips how to do it, what tools to use and offered to make it with his better AI program.

What could be done in few minutes with a free program is now multiple hours with billion dollar AI tools and you have less control what the end result is.

therouwboat··on OpenAI may not use lyrics without license, German court rules
What damages? You can learn lyrics by listening the song.
therouwboat··on Ask HN: What's a good 3D Printer for sub $1000?
Unless you buy kit, you don't really have to tinker with prusa (I have MK4S), it just seems to work.
therouwboat··on Charlie Kirk killed at event in Utah
It's kinda nice to live in a country where that the evil being doesn't have easy access to guns.
therouwboat··on LL3M: Large Language 3D Modelers
If you have an artist, can't you just talk to her about what you want and then she makes the model and all the rest of it? I don't really understand what you gain if you pay for LLM, make model with it and then give it to artist.
