theoneill··on Larry Page and Wall Street: Who needs who?
Google has two classes of stock.
theoneill··on Ask HN: Rate my weekend project.
Depends what you mean by memes. The things on this site aren't really memes in the original sense of the word. The reason these things are boring is probably that as humor they fall on the far billboard end of the billboard-Shakespeare continuum: they are designed for quick (but inevitably shallow) appeal.

theoneill··on Asia's new aristocrats
Even in China, my dad didn't eat rice until he was in his teens.

What did he eat?

theoneill··on Ask HN: Who's Hiring? (December 2010 Edition)
There's nothing illegal about age discrimination when choosing a cofounder, just as there isn't when choosing a friend.
theoneill··on London's high-tech start-ups: Silicon Roundabout
"McKinsey, a consultancy, will share management expertise."

God help them.

theoneill··on Zediva Streams Movies From Physical DVD Players, Argues It’s Legal
That's a metaphor.
theoneill··on Kayak Files for $50 million IPO
50m is not the valuation; it's the amount of stock they're selling.
theoneill··on To truly become rich, you need to stop acting like it
Your comment would be more effective without the parts on either end.
theoneill··on Microsoft registered fuckbing.com
Seems like the least we can do is use it. I propose we use this by default for links to bing.
theoneill··on Failures in mobile space cost Steve Ballmer half his bonus
Not even that. His salary is rounding error compared to his net worth.
theoneill··on Will America’s universities go the way of its car companies?
"The supply of papers that apply gender theory to literary criticism remains ample."
theoneill··on New York's Water Filled With Invisible Shrimp
Reminds one of the invisible clams in Scientology.
theoneill··on My experience as the first employee of a Y Combinator startup
The list _delirium and I are referring to is this one of 4 items:

All three appear to be single white 20something males
I am in fact pretty nearly as bothered by the claim that it's a problem that all 3 are male, or in their 20s.

It's lame when someone writes off a group of people based on such superficial characteristics.

theoneill··on My experience as the first employee of a Y Combinator startup
In a long enough list, by definition it's reasonable.

The problem is, this was a short list.

theoneill··on My experience as the first employee of a Y Combinator startup
And their race is supposed to predict this? I've heard white people can actually be quite different from one another.
theoneill··on My experience as the first employee of a Y Combinator startup
Why is it bad that they're white?
theoneill··on 'Remove Google Background' surges to number 2 in Google Trends
You may well be right. The artists involved are exactly the ones that would be chosen in that scenario. Which is unfortunate.
theoneill··on Wage Slavery - Applicable to [Nearly] Everybody?
It's just a figure of speech. There are plenty of other figures of speech that would be even more "offensive" if we applied this unreasonably strict standard to them.
theoneill··on [dead]
What matters is not the intention of the law but how it's written. This page says what's prohibited is "actual refusal to do business with or in Israel." Do you have some other source to back up your claim? Because judging from this page it sounds like it's illegal to boycott Israel period.
theoneill··on What Diaspora Should Do with their Newfound Fuckyoufacebook Money
Raking in pledges, not donations. I wonder what the conversion rate is.
theoneill··on Please review our startup Favetop.com - Internet Desktop
If you had to view source before you were sure, then it can't be a real problem, can it?
theoneill··on High Speed Rail Plan: Catch up with the Japanese?
"Unlike Japan, France and other countries, the U.S. has no true high-speed train lines."

Unlike Japan, France and other countries, the U.S. is really big.

theoneill··on Why do Finland's schools get the best results?
You say it's false that genetic factors account for 60-80% of variance in IQ. What is the current consensus about the actual number? 50%? 10%?
theoneill··on Why do Finland's schools get the best results?
So what percentage of the variance do they account for?
theoneill··on Leah Culver - Three weeks of iPhone development
Tactlessness ≠ balls.
theoneill··on If Facebook and Orkut were to merge the value would be...
An instance of additive identity.
theoneill··on ADD Nation, 90% of Social Media Referrals Don't Read
"How can anyone really judge the value of an article in under 10 seconds without reading any of it? The obvious answer, they can’t."

I was curious about this so I clicked on the link. The actual answer is that you can tell a lot about a site in just a second or two. As soon as I saw the tag cloud, I was gone.
