thecosas··on FDA clears first over-the-counter continuous glucose monitor
Can confirm, feels like crap.
thecosas··on FDA clears first over-the-counter continuous glucose monitor
Yep, I've definitely used my G6 for two sessions using "tricks". It would definitely get wonky towards the end of that time period, but it worked.
thecosas··on FDA clears first over-the-counter continuous glucose monitor
T1D currently using G6 / Omnipod Dash / open source Loop app.

The worst is every 90 days when I get a new G6 transmitter. It comes in a box the size of Two video tapes stacked on top of each other. I've tried reaching out to my mail-order pharmacy about it since I know there are smaller versions of it (or used to be), but nothing yet.

From what I've seen, the packaging for Dexcom G7 and it's applicator seems much smaller than G6's.

Side note: That applicator for G4 instilled fear every time I had to use it and I was already 20 years into T1D by then. The spring loaded applicators in G6/G7 are a big improvement as far as end user experience IMO :-)

T1D here who has been using Dexcom G6 for many years now. Interesting to see the differences between Stelo and G7 which are built on the same platform.

Curious if anything is driving the increase in wear time other than battery life savings from reporting back fewer readings.

  CGM: G7 / Stelo
  Wear time: 10 / 15 days
  Time between readings: 5 / 15 minutes

thecosas··on Microsoft Teams outage causes connection issues, message delays
I think (in general) Slack has been more open to automations and integrations, so entire workflows rest on it.

Teams is catching up in this respect, but fewer people rely on it beyond day-to-day communication. Not that it's not important, but maybe just not as critical to things beyond person-to-person comms.

I mostly agree and was happy to hear that you could shake the device to bring up an on-screen keyboard to use on the touch screen.
thecosas··on Retrieval Augmented Generation for New Orleans City Council Transparency
Interesting idea for making public meetings more accessible to the public. I know 3pm on a random weekday doesn't work for most citizens and yet... that's when it feels like many council meetings are.

Side note: Spotting a bit of lorem ipsum on the site which seems odd.

thecosas··on ChatGPT with voice is now available to all free users
I think it's just him acknowledging his team's (at least until very recently) likely months long efforts to have this ready to go live.
thecosas··on Bertrand Russell: Why I Am Not a Christian (1927)
> We ought to stand up and look the world frankly in the face. We ought to make the best we can of the world, and if it is not so good as we wish, after all it will still be better than what these others have made of it in all these ages. A good world needs knowledge, kindliness, and courage; it does not need a regretful hankering after the past, or a fettering of the free intelligence by the words uttered long ago by ignorant men. It needs a fearless outlook and a free intelligence. It needs hope for the future, not looking back all the time towards a past that is dead, which we trust will be far surpassed by the future that our intelligence can create.

I feel like they missed an opportunity with eero; that would have been a good way to refresh the airport brand.
thecosas··on Apple's Scary Fast event could spell the end of its Lightning port
If they update all the accessories, there are still devices they sell which don't have USB-C for charging, although they are not the "latest" models. Not that it isn't impressive, but I'm guessing it will take years for some of these to be retired.

I think that covers it. Honestly, not bad :-)

thecosas··on Study Finds Hybrid Work Improves Mental Health Compared to Remote or In-Office
I think well-executed "on-sites" where the company covers travel and lodging, etc are incredibly important for fully remote and partly remote teams.

There should be plenty of notice given and they should be on a repeatable cadence once or twice a year.

thecosas··on Study Finds Hybrid Work Improves Mental Health Compared to Remote or In-Office
I think it's important to remember that this may apply generally to a workforce, but not necessarily equally across all workers. Let's remain focused on flexibility vs prescribing things across the board.

It's certainly harder to have those conversations and to accommodate variation, but the result for employees and employers would be better with a little investment of time (and sometimes money) here.

thecosas··on Car allergic to vanilla ice cream (2000)
Perhaps it's long and slow enough to make the fluid move to a certain point and stay there long enough for the light/alarm to come on. If it's electronic vs solely mechanical, I'm sure they've got some smarts so that certain changes are ignored for a period of time (incline/decline, sharp turns, short stops).

Maybe you found the sweet spot at a certain point in that long, slow bend?

I still don't understand why they put a 3-hour delay on writing to Apple Health though. Any chance you have context on the why behind it?
thecosas··on A DIY ‘bionic pancreas’ is changing diabetes care
Bummer to hear about beta bionics! My understanding was that the hardware they are releasing does have a place for glucagon, just not the software and additional reservoir required. I'm considering a switch to their pump since it seems like they've made it as automated as possible with insulin-only.

Would love to see/hear more about what you're working on!

This makes sense to me since leaving a comment (even a negative one) would be a signal of engagement that would likely boost the likelihood of a given article being/remaining on the front page.
