thebears5454··on Backdoor attempt on Exolabs GitHub repo through an innocent looking PR
I think it looks like someone just ham fisting a known vulnerability trying to find one sucker who doesn't know what he's doing. If you're a jr with a learning projects maybe you'd approve the merge.
thebears5454··on Backdoor attempt on Exolabs GitHub repo through an innocent looking PR
Looks like he accidentally added a file. It's not "innocent" but definitely disguised by appearing as a readme only change
thebears5454··on Parking reform legalized most of the new homes in Buffalo and Seattle (2023)
This article is about freeing you from having to build parking spaces even if you don't want to. This article is about restoring property rights and property freedom.

Yet you managed to take away the opposite, that the government forcing you to build parking spaces on your property is "freeing" somehow.

thebears5454··on Why can’t Americans buy cheap Chinese EVs?
Its just blatant protectionism, which ironically hurts both Americans and American automakers.
thebears5454··on Insider trade on Splunk acquisition?
Options reduce volatility, and provide for a more efficient economy/market
thebears5454··on Tesla Semi does 822 miles (1322km) in a day during runonless day 9
How big is the battery? To do this by pulling it has to be hundreds of kilowatt hours.
thebears5454··on Fixing for loops in Go 1.22
It's definitely something like that where the compiler knows to grab the value.
thebears5454··on How Instagram scaled to 14 million users with only 3 engineers
Very famously he had Ron DeSantos on to announce his presidential campaign, but his website didn't work at all.
thebears5454··on How Instagram scaled to 14 million users with only 3 engineers
There is not a single VC that is three managers to one engineer
thebears5454··on Dara Khosrowshahi had a stint driving for Uber and delivering for Uber Eats
Uber is a Company and the CEO are getting roasted in this comments, but I wish more company leader ship could actually use the products.

It is aggravating when you can tell the company just has no idea how their customers use their service

thebears5454··on Dara Khosrowshahi had a stint driving for Uber and delivering for Uber Eats
Yes, just give them a ride or a code and I have the driver entry then you know who is going where.

it's a very simple problem to solve

thebears5454··on Real-world ranges for Teslas 50-60% of EPA Range
My ebike gets better than 20wh/mi. Really puts into perspective how inefficient these super heavy electric cars are.
thebears5454··on Flash mobs invade luxury L.A. retailers with brute force, overwhelming numbers
They're currently being charged with felonies, but they all 3 have been released with $20,000 bail.
thebears5454··on Flash mobs invade luxury L.A. retailers with brute force, overwhelming numbers

Use the sheriff's website. You'll find them there. It looks like all 3 have bonded out on 20,000$ bond.

I wonder how big your spare parts drawer/box is
thebears5454··on Incumbents are fighting back against disrupters
Yes, imessage and facetime are vastly superior to whatever the android alternatives are.
thebears5454··on Incumbents are fighting back against disrupters
You're missing the entire point of my comment.
thebears5454··on Natural beekeepers are the radical dissenters of apiculture
The real headline could be more accurately put as "Is modern amateur/hobbiest beekeeping making bee's genetically weaker?"

"None of us knew at the time how strong the selection would be in the wild,” Seeley told me recently. “It turned out that the bees had the variation needed to develop the traits to resist the mites.” While beekeepers were experimenting with chemical treatments and hive designs, the bees in the forest were changing genetically. Their life styles helped them, too. “Colonies living in the wild have many things going for them,” Seeley said. The bees lived in smaller groups, relatively far apart, which made it harder for varroa to spread. They swarmed every year, which broke the reproductive cycle of the mites. (If a colony swarms, the nest is left without bee larvae, which is where varroa mites take hold.)"

Heres a small snippet that briefly explains some of the things some Beekeepers think amateur beekeepers do incorrectly.

thebears5454··on Incumbents are fighting back against disrupters
Dollar stores are certainly stealing a lot of Walmarts lunch in rural illinois and Iowa.

Why would you go 35min to Walmart if you just need 10 things when there's a dollar store 10 min away that's almost the same price as Walmart and much better shopping experience.

thebears5454··on Incumbents are fighting back against disrupters
iPhone share is growing because it is the best phone, and has been for quite some time.

Some aspects of androids are better computers, but certain the phone and communication part of them is far far behind.

thebears5454··on SolarPi experiment 2: Finally something that works
I like that this guy has been struggling with this for so long lol

Just some random guy that I'm connected to via his frustrations

thebears5454··on CRISPR gene-editing treatment eliminates HIV-like virus from non-human primates
Being able to cure people that are undetectable would be a miracle of modern science, even if it's not able to cure everyone that's positive
thebears5454··on Flash mobs invade luxury L.A. retailers with brute force, overwhelming numbers
You're not going to see this in California, you are wildly out of touch.

Some of them are already in jail.

thebears5454··on Flash mobs invade luxury L.A. retailers with brute force, overwhelming numbers
https://ktla.com/news/local-news/3-arrested-for-luxury-handb...

They've already caught some of them. This simply isn't true.

thebears5454··on Flash mobs invade luxury L.A. retailers with brute force, overwhelming numbers
They've already caught, arrested and charged some of these people.
thebears5454··on Flash mobs invade luxury L.A. retailers with brute force, overwhelming numbers
"adopting so-called zero bail policies allow repeat offenders to get out quickly and commit new crimes."

I don't think this is actually true. At least, it's never been shown to be true in any statistically significant way. It gets repeated because it "feels true"

They've already arrested several of these people. And they'll get more of them.

thebears5454··on TypeScript is surprisingly ok for compilers
Pretty true lol chaining something together that ends up looking like this:

<<<<<<<<T>>>>>>>>

Is basically a guaranteed headache

thebears5454··on TypeScript is surprisingly ok for compilers
Naively, I would have guessed it being harder than C#
thebears5454··on mCaptcha: Open-source proof-of-work captcha for websites
I think that's one of the benefits of using things like Auth0.

They have thousands of companies so their heuristics are really good.
