testingonprod··on Ask HN: Pros and cons of working at a startup in 2020?
In many ways late stage startups seem to have been hit especially hard by COVID.

Anyone have a pulse on what sentiment around the earlier stages is like?

testingonprod··on Postmates Raises $80M in Push Toward $1 Deliveries
You're absolutely right, I kinda just posted the first thing that popped in my head.

I actually question their business model because I think something like Sprig will be far more specialized to cut costs sustainably than something like a Postmates will ever be able to.

testingonprod··on Tell HN: Entrepreneurs, make sure you are getting guaranteed wins in life
I stand 100% behind this. Including the "getting fit" part. it is incredibly important and will build your mental resilience.

This is the magic pill we've all been looking for, and it's been in front of our eyes this whole time. Exercise and a good diet were the answer all along.

testingonprod··on Postmates Raises $80M in Push Toward $1 Deliveries
Honestly if there is a bubble and if it does burst, I'm putting my money on Postmates as the first company that will go out of business.

That's a very very interesting argument to be made.
testingonprod··on Sidechains and Lightning, the New New Bitcoin
As far as I'm concerned, Venmo, PayPal, Square Cash, Google Wallet, Apple Pay all work fine for me and are as good as cash for 99% of my daily use cases like buying coffee or spotting a friend some money :)
testingonprod··on Sidechains and Lightning, the New New Bitcoin
Honestly do people still care about Bitcoin? Is it still a thing?

testingonprod··on Microsoft Buys German To-Do List Startup 6Wunderkinder
The apps that Microsoft has been buying recently are just incredibly top notch. Sunrise, Accompli, and now Wunderlist?!? Crazy good best-in-class products.
testingonprod··on Just Don't Hire 0x Engineers
Why would you not say "shit" during an interview? I wouldn't make it my every other word, but I find nothing wrong in talking to someone as I'd talk to them on a daily basis if I were hired.
testingonprod··on Fixing Engineering's Loyalty and Longevity Problem
I think you're misinterpreting what he said. He simply stated "Do not underpay me".

No one deserves to be underpaid. It's not an outrageous demand, in fact, he is just demanding baseline respect.

testingonprod··on GoPro's CEO honors a costly promise
This guy is amazing for that.
testingonprod··on In Flight
Exactly right. I just ended up skimming it and then skipping to the end.
testingonprod··on Be Kind
I've heard so many horror stories about Boz and the extremely toxic work environment that he apparently cultivated. Good to see that at the very least, he's self aware.
testingonprod··on Dave Goldberg, CEO of SurveyMonkey, has died
It is at these times we must confront our own mortality.
testingonprod··on Twitter Reports Weak Earnings and the Stock Is Crashing

testingonprod··on Ask HN: How to get work life balance
"When people think they’re going to do this shit for the money and this stuff for their souls, it becomes a real disservice. They’re resigning themselves to be professionally schizophrenic: they’ve divided their minds in a way that, at its core, is somewhat dishonest. Those lucky people who are fully integrated at the highest level figure out how to make everything—their lives, their work, what they do for fun, and what they do for money—all the same thing." - Michael Beirut
testingonprod··on Netflix Is Betting Its Future on Exclusive Programming
Speaking of exclusive content, I highly highly recommend Netflix's "Daredevil" (a TV series they developed with Marvel). It's seriously some amazing content.
testingonprod··on Ask HN: What do you do when you ride in an Uber?
I read Twitter the entire time.
testingonprod··on Facebook Chats Are Being Scanned by a CIA Funded Company?
Absolutely, that's why everything I post is set to "Public" and the content is of the same nature.

testingonprod··on Linux 4.0

testingonprod··on So you didn’t get a YC invite, what next?
Would you guys mind serving up some higher res assets please? :)
testingonprod··on FacePay?
They expected to add a TON of complexity to the messenger product (they announced messenger as a platform at F8) and they needed a way to decouple the already complex main FB app. It buys them a bunch of things, like easier maintenance, extensibility, and ability to push updates independently among other user experience benefits.

They also didn't want to split the user experience of using Facebook messenger on mobile and hence the forced switch.

It was only a big deal because of the surface area of the world that the main Facebook product (w/ messenger) covers. I guarantee you that if Google did something like that no one would care (at least not enough to give 20,000+ 1 star reviews)
