tedmcory77··on When Women Outrun Men
I’m an ultra marathoner; training low carb and racing high gave me best performance at distance and seems to dramatically reduce recovery times.
tedmcory77··on Amazon Jumps into Freight Brokerage
I’m honestly surprised Amazon hasnt bought Flexport. They seem to “get” how things should work.
tedmcory77··on Launch HN: Prometheus (YC W19) – Remove CO2 from Air and Turn It into Gasoline
Possibly, a licensing play? May be a way to inject capital to get to the larger problem?
tedmcory77··on Launch HN: Prometheus (YC W19) – Remove CO2 from Air and Turn It into Gasoline
Not to be flippant; but doesn't that seem like a surprisingly small installation for ~273 gallons a day?
tedmcory77··on An emerging black market offers Amazon sellers ways to cheat the marketplace
Not exactly correct; the seller has to allow comingling as well.
tedmcory77··on An emerging black market offers Amazon sellers ways to cheat the marketplace
Amazon may comingle, not does comingle. This is largely determined by the vendor.
tedmcory77··on Post-surgical deaths in Scotland drop by a third, attributed to a checklist
Dr. Gawande’s book “The Checklist Manifesto” can be life changing if properly applied.
tedmcory77··on Big Companies Thought Insurance Covered a Cyberattack
Wow, this is huge. If cyber insurance doesn't cover cyber attacks, then what does it cover? Having seen the process for cyber insurance paying out for an intrusion, I'd be super concerned if I were a CSO/Chief Risk Officer and there's a chance the cyber insurance wouldn't cover you.
tedmcory77··on How to tell a raven from a crow (2012)
At the Grand Canyon National Park they told us that ravens are the only animal allowed at wolf kills; this is because they train wolf pups while the parents are off hunting so theyre recognized.
tedmcory77··on What I Learned in My First Year Year as a Solo Founder
I cannot upvote this enough. I've found that exercise helps; both from being healthier but also because I'm so tired I sleep through the night instead of waking up and being unable to get back to sleep.

While running I focus on form as a way of meditation. Eventually my mind will wander onto other topics; being unable to actually put my hands onto a keyword or whiteboard helps.

tedmcory77··on Patreon ups its revenue cut, but grandfathers in old creators
The default cost of a transaction is typically ~$.30 cents. Thats just payment processing. Not alot of margin there.
tedmcory77··on Stardew Valley and real-life labour (2017)
I know an urban farmer here in Saint Petersburg, Florida. He’s been doing it for about 3 years now but I think the answer is it’s too soon to tell.
tedmcory77··on Launch HN: Bottomless (YC W19) – Coffee Restocked with a Smart Scale
I have about 2 extra years of toilet paper from Amazon because of the broken “subscribe and save” option. This is a great idea; coffee seems like a great initial market, curious what the 2nd and 3rd products end up being.
tedmcory77··on Daydreaming about the future instead of doing work today
What have you done to market it? Who is your primary user? What pain does it solve? How do they solve this pain without your service?
tedmcory77··on U.S. users are leaving Facebook by the millions, Edison Research says
Anecdotal data; I’ve purposefully stopped posting, liking, commenting, and am transitioning all my business hooked in things to a “business acccount” I’ve made with a goal of deleting the non business one by May 1.

It’s crazy how many places FB wormed it’s way into.

tedmcory77··on Roundup found in 95% of studied beers and wines
Whats the clearance rate? Does it store in fat? What is the dosage from other things in the diet. Those are very important questions.
tedmcory77··on How Fair Is My D20? (2015)
Yea, it's something that we want to do at scale (rollers, dice) via machine vision so all the "well actually" people that pop out of the woodwork with edge cases can be addressed ahead of time.

Hahaha, not ready to dox myself yet but you can probably figure it out with a little digging.

tedmcory77··on How Fair Is My D20? (2015)
Have you ever seen numbers run on float tested dice that test as biased?

Metal dice are less likely to have balance issues on the individual dice as long as the mold is balanced (because they are solid and heavy).

Source - I own a dice company.

tedmcory77··on Show HN: We Got Sick of Giving Out 'Ballpark Estimates' So We Built This
Agree with the other comments on price breakdown; would allow to hit a different number based on understanding implications.
tedmcory77··on Google terminated our business via our Google Play Developer Account
If someone can snap their fingers and turn off your business,it’s not your business. Porters five forces (and ubderstanding the sixth force) is one of the most important lessons in business.
tedmcory77··on Ask HN: Why is it easier to get a raise with a new job?
I’d say it’s related to how HR is measured. They typically get their “big wins” by bringing in “rockstars”, not giving raises.
tedmcory77··on Why Do Rich People Love Endurance Sports? (2017)
Depends on the distance run; having crewed an expedition in Death Valley amongst other places I think there's something to say for the complexity that long distance running can bring.
tedmcory77··on We wasted $50K on Google Search Ads and the insights we got on the way
Some key things they didn't mention doing:

-Retargeting/Remarketing - Some of your best ROI campaigns will come from these

-Discount Ladders - for customers to nudge over the edge great to use in combination with the retargeting campaigns.

-Abandoned cart email follow ups - No mention of these here. Again, these backend flows will really help profitability.

Ideally you'll break even on those leading awareness/acquisition campaigns using the things others here have said and the retargeting campaigns will be nothing but gravy.
