Take a break with a classic dice game, or change it up with Google Gemini...

tdy721··on Apple could force a 111-year-old fruit company to change its Apple logo
Because Steve took the name off a Beatles Album. It wasn't extortion
tdy721··on Apple could force a 111-year-old fruit company to change its Apple logo
Also good to remember that Apple Inc. infringed on Apple Corps until 2007.

tdy721··on Ask HN: It's 2023, how do you choose between MySQL and Postgres?
Easy: SQLite
tdy721··on Launch HN: OutSail (YC W23) – Wingsails to reduce cargo ship fuel consumption
This is neat, but I wonder about applying thrust through the container?

I also was kind of expecting a kite TBH. I wonder if the extra work of a kite is a good trade off, I feel like the tying off the thrust issue is easier with a kite than a mast.

Edit: I see wingsail in the title and I think it’s slightly ambiguous. I want to say this is “mast” based? Not a tech issue but

tdy721··on Ask HN: Who wants to be hired? (April 2023)
Location Prescott Arizona Remote yes Relocate no Full Stack JS Developer, ex WordPresser https://hyprtxt.dev tdy721@gmail.com
tdy721··on Tell HN: Instagram's API has broken, support tickets ignored, status page green
This one, a single report does not an outage make.
tdy721··on Just Write
Nice, but ... I wanted an article about old school WordPress, way back in the day. Wasn't that saying part of the Admin interface up until they added pages?
tdy721··on Ask HN: Who wants to be hired? (March 2023)
Prescott AZ Remote Yes Not able to relocate Frontend and Full Stack Web Developer. Node, Deno, Rails and more. https://hyprtxt.deno.dev tdy721@gmail.com
tdy721··on A spellchecker used to be a major feat of software engineering (2008)
Well it got it wrong, so no?
tdy721··on Roll your own JavaScript runtime (2022)
Yes but it’s MIT licensed, so it really is free to be yours, if you can figure out how to change that string.
tdy721··on Ask HN: How do you add novelty to your days?
Children are pretty unpredictable. I really dig the work though.
tdy721··on Ask HN: Those making $0/month or less on side projects – Show and tell
An open source Deno starter template that includes session handling and e2e Puppeteer testing that runs on Github Actions:

https://fresh-strapi.deno.dev/ https://github.com/Hyprtxt/fresh-strapi.deno.dev/actions

And this site uses the sessions and e2e testing, but not Strapi: https://videopoker.academy/ https://github.com/Hyprtxt/videopoker.academy

tdy721··on Ask HN: What would be your stack if you are building an MVP today?
Deno didnt make the list...
tdy721··on Ask HN: What would be your stack if you are building an MVP today?
Fresh, with Strapi to help bootstrap a backend, but eventually migrating all to Deno when the budgets permit.

https://github.com/Hyprtxt/fresh-strapi.deno.dev

This site uses the framework, but not Strapi: https://videopoker.academy

tdy721··on Ask HN: What have you created that deserves a second chance on HN?
https://fresh-strapi.deno.dev

And

https://videopoker.academy

Open source stuff, but I think Deno is less popular that I thought.

tdy721··on Ask HN: Why is news about fusion ignition not a bigger deal in popular media?
I think the first often steal the spotlight. In this case Fusion ignition happened a while ago with Ivy Mike: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ivy_Mike

This is Fusion Ignition; with Lasers or without Fission

So that's my take on it.

tdy721··on Ask HN: Why hasn't the ACH system been more abused?
This system you are calling ACH is also just called an "eCheck". If you write a check at say WalMart, they just scan it at the register and do an "ACH". Like others here have said: "KYC" know your customer rules make it hard to do fraud this way without getting caught.

People do abuse this all the time, look for the bad check writer program in your county. It's not switching over to ACH, that's how it has worked all along. I recommend Catch Me if you Can by Frank Abagnale.

tdy721··on There were almost two internets. Then, the CIA destroyed one
Wait, Chobits?
tdy721··on The PlanetScale serverless driver for JavaScript
This is really cool, but you missed Deno. I have a hunch this would mix well with Fresh
tdy721··on Fresh is a new full stack web framework for Deno
Yes, but the templates are written in JSX. No quoting nightmares, nesting is a breeze, the server side APIs speak like the browser ones, and it's really fast. With deno.dev hosting on the edge, it's server side like php, but way better. I used to like WordPress, now I love Deno.
tdy721··on Interactive Periodic Table
I didn’t mean isotopes. I want to challenge you with this: https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Table_of_nuclides but I misremember the name sometimes.
tdy721··on Ask HN: 30 years old with no career
It’s the place that offered me a job first. Need of money, I had an infant at the time
tdy721··on Ask HN: 30 years old with no career
33 years old. I have the degree. I went to grad school too. I have ten years of being a web developer. Last summer I worked at Sonic again; Carhopping!

You’re not the only one feeling it. :) stay happy

tdy721··on Why we don’t understand heavier-than-air flight
Disagree. It could be seen as one very long hurl? Or you know, stages of them?
tdy721··on Interactive Periodic Table
I forget you added that sometimes, but I did love finding it! What I am missing is the experience of looking at that curve/smear of a graph that is the table of the isotopes.

Keep up the good work, probably sums it up best :)

tdy721··on Interactive Periodic Table
Good work! This has been my go to for a long time. Like early oughts.

Only thing I can think to ask for is a table of the isotopes!

tdy721··on Why we don’t understand heavier-than-air flight
Technically correct. Hey it’s only mostly flight until max Q, then it’s... spaceflight?

Star Wars ships come out of space backwards and I don’t get it...

tdy721··on Why we don’t understand heavier-than-air flight
Rocketry is heavier than air flight. I submit we discovered it before lighter than air flight. I will hazard that I do have a nice understanding of how it works. I learned it from media like this:

https://youtu.be/X4iMeKif488

I do think you’re dead wrong!

tdy721··on HTML Data List Element
It offers more than a bare input does. Why can’t I add Ajax for fuzzy matches? A custom drop down with keyboard events? Or I could hang all that off of an input. Or use a select? You’re saying stuff can’t be done. Out of the box sure? Why hate on it? This looks great to me.
