Wow, this is a great workaround then to the author's issue.

Agreed, website loading here, still no whatsapp though.
tcarn··on WhatsApp Down in Some Regions
Phew, it's not just me. Beyond me why more of these big tech companies can't build more redundancies for their services.
tcarn··on The Future of Pass (SQL Server Users Org)
This is so heartbreaking, my heart stopped when reading this email. I was a HUGE fan of SQL Saturdays and I became a great pro with Power BI/SQL thanks to SQL Saturday and the outstanding network PASS provided...
tcarn··on Trump administration announces overhaul of H1B visa program requiring higher pay
I can't believe I'm actually agreeing with something this administration is doing...
tcarn··on WhatsApp Is Down
Came on here just to check on it. Thanks for the heads up.
tcarn··on Microsoft Acquires ADRM Software
This seems to further fortify Microsoft's position as having the best data platform of all the cloud providers. Others agree?
tcarn··on Doordash and Pizza Arbitrage
So true. So many of these apps need to do some basic math and not "try and make it up with volume" if their gross margin is negative...
tcarn··on Amazon scooped up data from its own sellers to launch competing products
Amazon makes life so hard for their suppliers it doesn't even surprise me. I once shipped a box of 10 laptops to sell on FBA (retail value ~$10k) and UPS showed the box as delivered, Amazon checked in the units and showed them available for sale on the website. Then 24 hours later all of them got removed saying I sent the inaccurate quantity in the box and none where now available for sale. The laptops disappeared and I had to do an insurance claim with UPS. Amazon's support was horrible and made me never want to sell with them again. Lots of stories like mine on the Amazon subreddit.
tcarn··on Dark Sky Joins Apple
This is a real shame, wish they would continue to support their Android App, it's my go to for weather.
tcarn··on How Can a Star Be Older Than the Universe?
HN is making me wish I studied astronomy, such cool stuff.
tcarn··on Amazon’s Consumer Business Turned Off Final Oracle Database
Your doorbell is ringing, I would answer it. It’s the police, with a warrant.
tcarn··on Why Vanilla JavaScript Doesn’t Cut It
Good read, so many people forget the problems of plain vanilla js as they knock all the new frameworks out there.
tcarn··on Facebook, Instagram, and WhatsApp outages
Surprised this impacts Whatsapp as well which seemed to store everything encrypted on your device...
tcarn··on Cloudflare Network Performance Issues
Holy shit. This impacts nearly everything.
tcarn··on Cashing In: How to Make Negative Interest Rates Work
You truly would need a totally cashless economy, Bitcoin would skyrocket if negative rates became the normal. Credit cards would beg you to carry a balance.
tcarn··on Google Cloud Is Down
Once again HN proves to be the best status monitor.
tcarn··on Amazon Jumps into Freight Brokerage
That's what we do. Have a summary file and a detail file and they need to match.
tcarn··on Apple introduces 8-core MacBook Pro
Yeah I mean a machine like that should be able to run web apps with no problems...
tcarn··on Apple introduces 8-core MacBook Pro
My boycott of the Macbook "Pro" will continue until they add additional I/O ports (including HDMI and standard USB ports) and until they add a num pad (a big reason I've stuck with Windows over the years).
tcarn··on Amazon Jumps into Freight Brokerage
I work in the enterprise payments space that functions on ftp transfers of xml, edi and text files and it's not necessarily a bad thing, just as long as it works. Much easier to troubleshoot why you got bad data if you have a ftp to look at with a daily xml file that gets posted.
tcarn··on Firms That Promised Ransomware Decryption Almost Always Just Pay the Hackers
There needs to be more accountability for Bitcoin, solve btc and you solve a lot of these hacks...
tcarn··on New York Times CEO warns publishers ahead of Apple news launch
Great perspective, but I think a service like Apple News would run into a PR nightmare if they blocked NYT articles.. Probably bring up 1st amendment issues as well.
tcarn··on Amazon hired private detectives to spy on injured worker
I mean with all this publicity they will probably be switching providers or sending in a complaint to Sedgewick, but they aren't micromanaging carpal tunnel workers comp claims that make up 1/100000th of their revenue.
tcarn··on Amazon hired private detectives to spy on injured worker
Former Workers Comp claim examiner here.

Every Workers' compensation insurance company hires private investigators to make sure the person is really injured and not working another job while collecting. Sounds like the private investigative company overstepped their bounds by physically assaulting the worker, but otherwise this is SOP.

Worth noting - Amazon has nothing to do with this. They simply pay premiums for Sedgewick to administer the claims. The employer typically doesn't tell the insurer to go after the workers, since in this case it is Sedgewick who's footing the bill.

tcarn··on Amazon, Amid Crackdown on Seller Scams, Fires Employees Over Data Leak
Agreed, which is why I really love camel camel camel. Makes me a much more informed consumer. I wish they had other sites that they tracked.
tcarn··on Nasa's Voyager 2 probe 'leaves the Solar System'
All with 1970s technology, simply amazing stuff.
tcarn··on Facial recognition: It’s time for action
I really hope the politicians in the US champion a GDPR law here. Unfortunately I'm not optimistic.
