tayo42··on Ask HN: How can we solve the loneliness epidemic?
It's weird that no one else plans things?

I always feel like I organize things to much. It's one sided

tayo42··on Goscript: Transpile Go to human-readable TypeScript
Interesting I feel like I'd rather go the other way, write something in a language with nice syntax and features, then transpile to go
tayo42··on There's a ridiculous amount of tech in a disposable vape
If that's how you you define work, prohibition worked.
tayo42··on No management needed: anti-patterns in early-stage engineering teams
So what did those managers do to make you more motivated?
tayo42··on No management needed: anti-patterns in early-stage engineering teams
Do managers ever get fired or fail? All of my worst managers seem to keep moving up the ladder from what I see on LinkedIn. I don't understand it.
tayo42··on AI generated music barred from Bandcamp
What do you search for or listen to that gives you ai generated music?
tayo42··on The chess bot on Delta Air Lines will destroy you (2024) [video]
I have never come across this opinion until it seemed to have blown up on the internet in the last few years.
tayo42··on The next two years of software engineering
This account can't be real
tayo42··on Ozempic is changing the foods Americans buy
You need to include more info about your one meal, height and your actual weight. If your 5'2 this is alot less interesting
tayo42··on Don't fall into the anti-AI hype
Do you work in the software industry? Low effort stuff like that is happening everyday.
tayo42··on Don't fall into the anti-AI hype
I've been wondering lately if the career move is to get into SRE/Ops/Platform type work.

Imo its to hard for companies to get infra into a place where text can be an interface. IaC is mostly an aspiration beyond a certain scale ime, which is close enough to interacting with infra through text.

tayo42··on Exercise can be nearly as effective as therapy for depression
Boredom snacking durring the work day kills me, maybe even slowly litteraly.
tayo42··on Start your meetings at 5 minutes past
Glad to know I'm not alone
tayo42··on Is Craigslist the Last Real Place on the Internet?
Craigslist is kind of dead near me, except free stuff. I'll get a million people when I put up free stuff still.

I do most of my 2nd hand buying on OfferUp. Idk where it came from, a friend told me about it and it's pretty active.

tayo42··on Eat Real Food
More bro science, doesn't this have issues with plastics?
tayo42··on US Job Openings Decline to Lowest Level in More Than a Year
What industry and roles?
tayo42··on Why didn't AI “join the workforce” in 2025?
Funny call out. I always see people brag about working at a fortune 500 company, also meaningless with companies like Lululemon on their lol
tayo42··on The College Backlash Is a Mirage
If you go to cheap local public schools there's nothing to regret. Most Americans k-12 go to public schools then suddenly at college public options aren't good anymore?

Though dorms are probably the only time in your adult life all your friends are walking distance away and free to hang out.

tayo42··on The great shift of English prose
I started reading melancholy of resistance after the author won the Nobel prize this year. The sentences are very long, the book is really difficult to read imo though.
tayo42··on The unbearable joy of sitting alone in a café
There's all kind of gyms besides weights and treadmill gyms though.

And a gym like la fitness is 30/mo

tayo42··on The unbearable joy of sitting alone in a café
Except for some weird circumstances like you have 2 friends or your part of a nomadic tribe, yeah that sounds like an issue. People should work out
tayo42··on The Great Gatsby is the most misunderstood novel (2021)
None of those shows were a pop culture phenomenon like got was when it was on.

It only ended a few years ago. The office took over 10 years to have a popularity resurgence.

tayo42··on Software Craftsmanship Is Dead
I feel like the stakes are never low becasue when you ship crap your getting paged. You'll work weekends or overnights to fix your shoddy code and choices. Yeah the stakes are low like no one really cares if the b2b SaaS is down. But I care because I value my own time. I feel like no one thinks that way.

Also on the topic of the rant, I think to many people just don't give a shit. Idk how they're like that? To many people develop software that aren't computer people.

tayo42··on The Great Gatsby is the most misunderstood novel (2021)
Game of thrones will be. No main character is safe since Ned Stark was killed on TV.

No ending was going to be good. Sopranos had a controversial ending too.

Silicon Valley captured the feel of the bay area and did a good job with satire.

2000s would be easier, I think 2010 is about the switch to super hero movies.

tayo42··on Reddit Has Become the Internet's Strip Mall
Was this actually confirmed?
tayo42··on Tell HN: I'm having the worst career winter of my life
Yeah not planning on but idk how to manage future interviews where it looks like I've done nothing significant, not lead projects or did anything notable erc. It looks like I'm coasting.

Hopefully future employers are sympathetic to the situation some of us (alot of us?) are in

tayo42··on Why do Americans hate A.I.?
It does work for people at a good enough level that woukd have needed an expensive professional in the past.
tayo42··on Tell HN: I'm having the worst career winter of my life
Still have a job but I'm stuck in a role with no growth and no challenging or even valuable work.

Idk how I'm supposed to talk about the last 2 years in interviews and every move up and out. I would have left earlier but it's challenging

tayo42··on Nerd: A language for LLMs, not humans
> 67% fewer tokens than TypeScript. Same functionality.

Doesnt typescript have types? The example seems to not have types?

tayo42··on OpenAI is paying employees more than any major tech startup in history
Aren't their secondary markets for this? My wife gets offers constantly for her options even though they're not public yet and the offers are higher then what she was awarded them at. Maybe it's scams? we never took any of them up on it.
