synu··on Ask HN: Do you believe there's really an alternative to Twitter?
I think you’re right, little dopamine hits from attention or feeling self righteous. But I doesn’t seem to work on everyone, and that’s the part of tech Twitter I follow.
synu··on Ask HN: Do you believe there's really an alternative to Twitter?
Even if you unfollow everyone who occasionally shares outrage posts, there are still a lot of interesting people to follow. That seems to work for me.
synu··on Ask HN: Is everyone on Hacker News super charismatic?
It is a site for technical discussion, so it’s important to start with the assumption that nobody except yourself has any idea what they are talking about and go from there. :)

Joking aside, I do think it’s a bit to be expected in an anonymous forum. It’s quite at a tolerable level here, even if it’s not what I’d look for in my irl friends.

synu··on Ask HN: Is everyone on Hacker News super charismatic?
And quite handsome as well.

On a more serious note I think people on HN tend to be way more pedantic than anyone I would want to spend time with in real life.

synu··on Birdwatch, Twitter's collaborative fact checking system
Maybe some kind of sewage treatment metaphor would be more apt?
synu··on HBO cancels ‘Westworld’ in shock decision
My opinion of course, but it was terrible immediately after the end of the first season. But that first season was incredible.
synu··on Twitter has had a massive drop in revenue
It’s a meme, people repost and retweet it. Whether memes are funny is an exercise left to the reader but they are certainly popular.
synu··on UN Votes Overwhelmingly to Condemn US Embargo of Cuba
Or, we the member countries of the general assembly. You can argue whether or not any of those countries have any power, but probably nobody is invading the US to break the embargo if that’s what you mean.
synu··on Ex-Reddit CEO on Twitter moderation
Did Riot eventually sort out the toxic community? If so that would be amazing, and definitely relevant. I stopped playing when it was still there, and it was a big part of the reason I stopped.
synu··on Ask HN: Is there a list of richest based on liquid assets not stock wealth?
Agreed it would be strange, more wondering about how “making a list of richest people based on stocks is disingenuous because they will never be able to get that valuation if they sold it on the market”
synu··on Ask HN: Is there a list of richest based on liquid assets not stock wealth?
That makes sense. But even if you’re one of the world’s richest people and decide for some reason to retire just on the savings of a FAANG engineer, you still eventually die and your assets must be sold or passed on to others. Someone is going to cash out.

I just don’t understand how once you reach a certain level of wealth you are functionally locked out of ever accessing it except on paper. Someone must have kept their wealth or cashed out (one way or the other) at some point. It feels like, if true, no business would ever exist more than 30 years but clearly there are many businesses that have.

synu··on Michael Crichton’s and John Grisham’s ambition types
Quite common in rise and grind hustler culture in any industry as well.
synu··on Ask HN: Is there a list of richest based on liquid assets not stock wealth?
If this is true, how would a founder or large shareholder ever retire (or even unexpectedly die and have their estate liquidated) without immediately killing the company they are a majority shareholder in? It seems like this must have happened at some point.
synu··on Ask HN: Is there a list of richest based on liquid assets not stock wealth?
Liquid definitely doesn’t mean legal tender, just that you can quickly sell (like stocks on the market.) In contrast with property, collectibles, etc.
synu··on The SAFe Delusion
My personal experience is that, while you’re absolutely right for startups, large multinationals and companies that don’t see themselves as necessarily tech-first still use it as a selling point.

I don’t know if it is effective to do so or not, but I do see it highlighted on job ads/recruiting landing pages.

synu··on The SAFe Delusion
It’s agile for companies that absolutely do not want to adopt agile but want to be able to tell their (prospective) employees that they have.
synu··on “Twitter will be forming a content moderation council with diverse viewpoints”
Honestly that would be wonderful
synu··on I tried starting a manufacturing unit in India (2020)
Or Pilot.co
synu··on Ask HN: What vendor does a good job with new employee swag packs?
It seems there are a few companies that handle that for you now, not sure if any are really worth it though.
synu··on Ask HN: How to show a not “so perfect” MVP to potential customers?
You can just say you're early. If your vision resonates and you're solving a real problem they will be excited.
synu··on A celebration of roguelike games
Binding of Isaac is really great as an approachable Roguelike.
synu··on Hyundai investigating child labor in its U.S. supply chain
I don’t think the person you are replying to was saying child slavery was ok, just adding more info on they sometimes get away with it.
synu··on The Gervais Principle, or the Office According to “The Office” (2009)
I guess it was their aspiration, but they behaved so apallingly to other people that they never went anywhere past middle management.
synu··on The Gervais Principle, or the Office According to “The Office” (2009)
Realistically he was probably considered something like a prop more than anything.
synu··on The Gervais Principle, or the Office According to “The Office” (2009)
The worst manager I ever had used to keep a copy of The Prince at his desk. He definitely looked at other people the way this article seems to encourage you to.
synu··on Amsterdam looks incredibly realistic in the new Call of Duty
This looks like a 2002 Nintendo GameCube release called like “World Baby”

synu··on Amsterdam looks incredibly realistic in the new Call of Duty
I didn’t read that as spewing hate at all, especially compared to what cesspool forums are capable of. They listed a few things that are still not up to a realistic level, which started some interesting conversations around why that stuff is still hard.
synu··on Amsterdam looks incredibly realistic in the new Call of Duty
The crowd/background sound in general sounds nothing like walking around in Amsterdam. Small thing but it really stood out to me.
synu··on The front end community wants to wash its hands of the decade we lost
This seems to refer to some new consensus that everyone now agrees to, but I am not sure what they are referencing. Does anyone know?
synu··on Adults today care too much what young people think
Or conversely, was post-wwii prosperity in the US directly attributable to a rigid hierarchical age-oriented society? I am not sure that’s entirely clear either.
