syedkarim··on Nissan's third generation e-POWER powertrain
I don’t understand the logic of this. Can you math it out?
syedkarim··on 560-610 minutes of exercise a week needed for substantial heart benefits
I don't think 10 hours per week is unreasonable or impossible. And I don't see why you need to be a hypochondriac or narcissist to prioritize physical activities. The article does not define the required level of exertion, but I assume things like biking, ping-pong/pickleball, soccer, etc all count. A lot of physical activity can be cheap, though it is more challenging in the winter.
syedkarim··on The truth that haunts the Ramones: 'They sold more T-shirts than records'
I mostly looked at the pictures.
syedkarim··on Stripe valued at $159B, 2025 annual letter
Visa is valued at $585B and Mastercard is valued at $444B. Is Stripe making more revenue per transaction than Visa and Mastercard?
syedkarim··on Why your outdoorsy friend suddenly has a gummy bear power bank
Lithium NMC, which I think is the most common, is 3.7V. Lithium iron phosphate, which some power packs do use, has a nominal voltage of 3.2V.
syedkarim··on ICEBlock, an app for anonymously reporting ICE sightings, goes viral
Why is this an app and not a website?
syedkarim··on Cell Towers Can Double as Cheap Radar Systems for Ports and Harbors (2014)
Yes, they are on the BIS Commerce Control List. It doesn't need to be particularly advanced to be export controlled.

5A001.g Passive Coherent Location (PCL) systems or equipment, “specially designed” for detecting and tracking moving objects by measuring reflections of ambient radio frequency emissions, supplied by non-radar transmitters. Technical Note: For the purposes of 5A001.g, non-radar transmitters may include commercial radio, television or cellular telecommunications base stations.

syedkarim··on We know a little more about Amazon's super-secret satellites
SpaceX isn’t providing a discount to student groups. The program, Cubesat Launch Initiative, is funded by NASA and covers the cost of launch and integration into the deployer.
syedkarim··on The Rise and Fall of Toys 'R' Us (2018)
Who are the lenders and why do they keep lending when their is a history of default from the PE-owners?
syedkarim··on Sky skimmers: The race to fly satellites at the lowest orbits yet
Thanks for the reply. Are you able to comment a bit more on the costs. I’m particularly curious about your statement about balloons being orders of magnitude less expensive than satellites. Does that mean 1/1000 the cost or 1/100 the cost? I ask because LEO satellites with usable power (50W) no longer cost millions, or even a single million to put on orbit. And they have operational lifespans of 5 years.
syedkarim··on Sky skimmers: The race to fly satellites at the lowest orbits yet
Are you staying under the 12-pound ICAO-limit for a payload (which must be split into two packages)? If so, how much power is continuously available to the payload and how long can each balloon stay aloft?
syedkarim··on FTC announces "click-to-cancel" rule making it easier to cancel subscriptions
Why do unsubscribe-regulations work so well? What is the punishment for not complying and is enforcement particularly swift?
syedkarim··on YC criticized for backing AI startup that simply cloned another AI startup
Which part of it do you think is not true? The written application is not extensive at all. It takes maybe 1-hour of focused time. That’s all I had ever spent on the written part of the application and I’ve been interviewed three times as a solo founder. And the interview really is just ten minutes long, though sometimes they go a little over the limit.
syedkarim··on FCC unlocks spectrum to support advanced satellite services
Alternatively, the aperture of the antenna on the satellite can be increased. So high-gain from space, but low gain on Earth, which is the approach of AST SpaceMobile.
syedkarim··on ANTSDR: Low-cost SDR Alternatives for Ettus Research and Lime Microsystems
$5 is not even the price of the tuner (R860) at the MOQ of 4900 pieces. Where are you finding new RTL-SDR dongles for $5?
syedkarim··on Robot dentist performs first human procedure
How is a 26.1 per capita calculated? Various unrelated sources state that there are 1.1M physicians (MD and DO) in the US. The US has a population of 360M?
syedkarim··on Tesla owners file class-action alleging repair, parts monopoly
What’s strange is that it’s just a PCB. It should not be an issue for them to stock or quick-build a circuit board. They can’t possibly still blame the chip-shortage bogeyman.
syedkarim··on Show HN: Radius – A Meetup.com alternative
I scheduled a call with rickcarlino awhile back--I didn't know him before doing so. He is very sharp and very genuine. You should definitely take him up on his offer.
syedkarim··on Tick-killing pill shows promising results in human trial
I thought ticks could not jump or fly.
syedkarim··on Show HN: OK-Robot: open, modular home robot framework for pick-and-drop anywhere
I’m always surprised by how difficult it is for people to understand this.
syedkarim··on Ask HN: Help finding a programming primer posted on HN several years ago?
That’s not it, but your link is still good. Thanks!

What I remember (which may no longer be accurate) was that the site was similar in style to a web comic. And it started with an explanation of a bit.

syedkarim··on Why Americans Suddenly Stopped Hanging Out
Get a device to jam the cellphone bands. Make sure the power output is low enough to only jam phones in your home. /s
syedkarim··on Show HN: Atopile – Design circuit boards with code
Could you please explain the difference between Atopile and Jitx (https://www.jitx.com/)? Both seem to provide software-defined hardware development.
syedkarim··on Build your own drone tracking radar [video]
Passive radar is ITAR-controlled. Terrestrial (non-airborne) active radar is not controlled, in many cases.
syedkarim··on Ask HN: Small business owners on HN. How do you do your accounts?
Quickbooks
syedkarim··on Ask HN: Are there any conferences for bootstrapped hardware businesses?
I’ve found two conferences that are only kind of relevant.

https://www.crowdsupply.com/teardown/portland-2023 The focus is definitely hardware, but I don’t think they really touch on the business of hardware.

https://microconf.com/americas Microconf is definitely business focused, but not at all hardware-oriented.

syedkarim··on JP Krucker's weight shift amphibious autogyro [video]
Why aren’t there any autogyro drones? Since they don’t stall easily, I Would guess they have that major advantage over fixed-wing drones? Or maybe stalling is not a concern for drones and fixed wing is better in every other respect.
syedkarim··on Polio is on the brink of eradication
Was this a registered nurse (4-year nursing degree)?
syedkarim··on Sam Bankman-Fried and the effective altruism delusion
Are you saying that Christianity and Islam don’t require the belief in a supernatural being?
syedkarim··on A fourth of U.S. health visits now delivered by non-physicians
You caught something I didn't. The first paragraph states "12 years of school and training". The second paragraph has the same phrase, but without "school". I was focused on the second paragraph without realizing it was likely referencing the first one.
