sxcurry··on Netflix is basically remaking all of TV now
There are some great hidden gems. For example, India's Frontier Trains - fascinating.
sxcurry··on Multiple OS Vendors Release Security Patches After Misinterpreting Intel Docs
Also, Apple and Microsoft are not an “OS”. This is a poorly written article unfortunately.
sxcurry··on Troubled Times for Alternatives to Einstein’s Theory of Gravity
Your second point - I don't think the potential Planet Nine has anything to do with "problem with the orbits of some of the outer planets". It has been proposed as a solution to the orbits of some distant smaller Kuiper Belt objects. This in return doesn't really have anything to do with relativity, just basic orbital mechanics.
sxcurry··on Apple needs to tackle the issue of smartphone addiction
Actually, Apple doesn't "need" to do anything.
sxcurry··on A $76,000 Monthly Pension: Why States and Cities Are Short on Cash
This article doesn't tell the whole story. Yes, PERS is a problem in Oregon. However, some of the anecdotes of counties cutting services are not related to PERS. For example, Josephine County, next door county to mine, has the lowest property tax rates in the state. Property owners in the county have repeatedly rejected tax increases to pay for basic services like the Sheriff's Department, and as a result have experienced some of the cut backs described in the article. This is not a result of PERS contributions.
sxcurry··on What Time Is It on the International Space Station? (2013)
Technically, UTC is a time standard, and GMT is a time zone, so the two, although equal, are not really the same thing. Also, you can set your iPhone to UTC in the World Clock, which I do as an amateur astronomer.
sxcurry··on When Twenty-Six Thousand Stinkbugs Invade Your Home
I’m being swarmed by box elder bugs right now - thousands of them on the sunny walls of the house. I shop vac them up. Luckily they don’t stink.
sxcurry··on Review: Tesla Model 3 lives up to hype
I have a heads-up display in my Audi A4, and it turns out to be surprisingly useful. It shows speed limit, current speed, and upcoming navigation turns. The only problem is that it can be difficult to see if wearing polarized sunglasses.
sxcurry··on Capturing Starman from 1M miles away
Rogelio is very well known in the Astrophotography community - he's one of the best.
sxcurry··on Red Lang goes blockchain
Still waiting for Red Lobster blockchain
sxcurry··on Images and video showing extent of Oroville dam damage
Agreed- this is the first time I really understood the sequence of events and the scale of the damage.
sxcurry··on What I Heard from Trump Supporters
Funny, nobody has yet suggested what these well grounded counterfactuals are. And I don't mean vague "freedom of speech on campus" discussions. I'd like to hear about some really well-grounded counterfactuals that are being shouted down.
sxcurry··on What I Heard from Trump Supporters
Evolution, vaccination, global warming, coal, etc, etc
sxcurry··on What I Heard from Trump Supporters
Except that the contrarian views frequently turn out to be lies, and I can't spend all my time debating lies. Please suggest a contrarian view that's worth discussing.
sxcurry··on Apple proposes new web 3D graphics API
I'm disappointed that I had to scroll this far down to get to the real heart of the matter - Apple removing the headphone jack!
sxcurry··on Apple Said to Work on Mac Chip That Would Lessen Intel Role
But the comment was about MacOS not the Mac Pro
sxcurry··on Tesla Model S: the story of a very short happiness and excitement
It's really interesting to see how far some people will go to absolve Tesla of anything bad. This car was a lemon and the owner got terrible service from Tesla. End of story.
sxcurry··on Sergey Brin joins protest against immigration order at SFO
Did you hear that lie on Fox or make it up yourself?
sxcurry··on A large asteroid recently flew close to Earth
I've never heard this before. Can you provide a reference for more info?
sxcurry··on Uncomfortable Truths Behind California’s Economic Surge
It's so crowded nobody goes there anymore. Typical WSJ FUD.
sxcurry··on Hawaii's Final Sugar Cargo Departs Maui Aboard 'Moku Pahu'
BTW, the gcaptain website is an ongoing source of interesting ship related news.
sxcurry··on Shopify is processing over $260k per minute right now
Why all the hate on Shopify, from this and your other comment? They seem to be doing a pretty good job. Also, what does the "other francophone software groups" comment mean? Is Shopify francophone and what would that mean?
sxcurry··on On the road with the 13-inch MacBook Pro
I'm curious about the comment that Apple doesn't care about people that use their stuff. Isn't it possible that they do care deeply, and that they have carefully designed a laptop that is optimum for most users? Of course, that means some users don't fit this profile, but it doesn't mean that Apple doesn't care.
sxcurry··on Open Letter to Tim Cook
And the good news is .... you don't have to!
sxcurry··on MacBook Pro
Why would you say that? The Track bar has voice over, just like the trackpad.
sxcurry··on History of Xenix – Microsoft's Forgotten Unix-Based Operating System
The entire article is incoherent.
sxcurry··on BlackBerry confirms it will end in-house hardware development
On mobile trends: "The most exciting mobile trend is full Qwerty keyboards. I'm sorry, it really is. I'm not making this up." Lazaridis, May 2008. Almost Trump-like in his dogged grasp of fantasy.
sxcurry··on Why I’m giving my company Election Day off
Agreed - simple, accurate, and allows lots of private time to read the ballot document and make decisions. I'm not sure why more states don't adopt vote by mail.
sxcurry··on Costa Rica has gone 76 days using 100% renewable electricity
I have solar at home and it's extremely reliable. For the last 11 years, it has generated electricity 100% of the time the sun was shining. Oh, maybe you meant something other than reliable?
sxcurry··on iPhone 7
Well, it's official - Apple has failed again! Doomed I tell you, doomed! Forget the performance enhancements, better battery life, fantastic new cameras, etc, etc - I have to use a new earbud cable. Plus, Jony Ive is going around putting super glue in all the old iPhone audio jacks, so I can't even use my existing earbuds with my existing iPhone. Plus, Apple is charging me $0.00 for the adapter so that I can use my ratty old earbuds with my new phone. Doomed, I tell you.
