swohns··on Evaluating new idea, what do you think of using HTTPS://www.userinterviews.com/?
Question in title. I'm starting a evaluating a new opportunity and looking to boost my user interviews. Have people tried using https://www.userinterviews.com/ what do you think of it?

swohns··on What the Whatsapp acquisition tells us about Facebook's mobile strategy
I'd actually add that it was about user engagement (there is a huge overlap in whatsapp users and facebook users). WhatsApp has far more daily usage than even Facebook boosts, and this was the initial statistic that Facebook was able to point to as validation at it's inception.
swohns··on Help HN: Does anyone need a programmer for the next two days?
I'd like to help a fellow hacker in need! We have a project that could use some django expertise. I'd love to see some of your work first though, mind sending it my way? My email is in my profile.
swohns··on Amazon India is now live
Used to work in International Dev for a ecom company, and India was a serious target. We ended up going elsewhere because of delivery infrastructure and local competitors, that free delivery is going to be a huge advantage.
swohns··on Show HN: I made this simple YouTube playlist maker. What do you think?
Beautiful interface! I actually was throwing around the idea of an audio only Youtube player, can is there a way to toggle the video?
swohns··on Ask HN: Building an app to make real-world conversations searchable. Want it?
I like the idea, but there absolutely has to be some sort of indicator that you're interested in recording this convo (and the less invasive the better). How about linking it to calendar events, and/or locations? Facial rec could be an indicator for recording when you hit Glass integration.
swohns··on Google Buys Wavii For North Of $30 Million
Looks like they're headed to the Knowledge Graph team, but I'd like to see some love for the news division, especially from NLP badasses like Wavii.
swohns··on Booting Up: Zuck’s First Website Was Just as Embarrassing as Yours
I agree, the lack of an animated gif background is a relative sign of taste and restraint in the angelfire era.
swohns··on StoryWorth (YC W11) launches to record and elicit family stories
I love this! Simple, and can create meaningful and lasting connections.

I am using it as a way to tell the story my sister and her fiancee, as I am officiating their wedding. I have been struggling with what to say for months, and finally, by assembling the family's stories here and using this as a framework, I am starting to make some headway.

Thank you Storyworth team, this is truly something meaningful and beautiful that you have created here.

swohns··on The Future of Search is Visual
I of course agree that you find problem before product, and find it unfortunate that many R&D shops and Universities are engineered the other way around. Luckily for my friend they've actually found success using this platform in education, specifically teaching autistic children, as well as in film (and animation) for storyboarding.
swohns··on The Future of Search is Visual
My friend is turning his PhD research into a visualization app that creates images from the text you enter, he's at wordseye.com. Glad to hear that other people are excited about this area.
swohns··on E2 Visa for Startup Founders 101
Thanks for sharing this, any recommendations for a great immigration lawyer?
swohns··on The Decline in Illegal Immigration From Mexico-Becker - The Becker-Posner Blog
Rebuttal from Posner: http://www.becker-posner-blog.com/2013/03/mexican-immigratio...
swohns··on Poll: Do you meditate?
I spent some time in Japan studying different forms of meditation, mostly Rinzai zazen on Koya-san, and find it to be quite beneficiary for high pressure jobs. I also find meditative activities to be a nice supplement or more social form of meditation. I especially like the long walks (I'm a big fan of the walk and talk meetings) and various athletic actives (like surfing or climbing) that force you to empty your mind and focus.
swohns··on Data, Transparency, and Regulation
The major problem I see from data driven decisions is the lack of logical failsafes for causation versus correlation. I think you'd have to know more about the waste disposal landscape for this particular anecdote to be able to draw these suppositions about individual restaurant compliance.
swohns··on No email at AngelList
what sort of stuff would you like to see built on top of email? that could be very interesting
swohns··on Ask HN: What did you do for health/dental insurance when just starting out?
Lived in WA a long time, and I've found a Group Health plan for less than $100 a month (might have gone up in recent years). ehealthinsurance.com is a great research tool.
swohns··on Ask HN: What did you do for health/dental insurance when just starting out?
What state are you in?
swohns··on Apple-Ferrari Partnership Finally Bears Fruit With Siri-Connected Supercar
Nice first step, cars are just begging for a UX designer to come in and rethink layouts. I can't wait for the 3D printed car.
swohns··on Andrew Mason out at Groupon
Credit for the Godfather references!
swohns··on The Soccket Is An Electricity-Generating Soccer Ball For The Developing World
This is a favorite of mine, awesome example of innovative discovery of unused energy!
swohns··on Watch Out for Google Glasses
I think this article is focused around a fundamental change of user behavior that I don't see happening. The glass to be is a phone replacement, where the same rules and concerns about phone usage are projected onto the glass. Are we going to wear them in class? Do we allow students to wear earbuds in class?
swohns··on Semantics3 (YC W13) Is A Massive Consumer Products Database To Rule Them All
This is an incredible achievement, would love to hear more about the backstory and the "curation" process.
swohns··on On Social Commerce: Chirpify & Amex
Grace under pressure: very valid points from a promising startup. In-stream payment is definitely something I see catching on with the next generation of devices, google glasses integration makes alot of sense to me.
swohns··on How Snapchat took over Yale
I've been experimenting with text summarizers, but the content of email is so subjective that it is hard to make a meaningful summary. Anyone have experience/thoughtspace in this area?
swohns··on Ask forgiveness, not permission
Would love HN wisdom! We're using Twitter to build an NLP app, and everyday we're wondering if they will just pull the plug on us. We have a friend at Twitter in Ops: ask permission or forgiveness?
swohns··on Vocabulary of Coffee Bars
My favorite: "need cups?"
swohns··on Airbnb Annual
Beautiful use of skrollr, it is amazing how the design first philosophy of Brian has created a new standard for marketplaces.
swohns··on How Snapchat took over Yale
lets do it! I'll go first: How about a chat program based on sharing websites? Or an email program without a subject line?
