This isn't always possible, but it's far more possible than many developers seem to think.
Does nobody ask what the code is for and why you're doing it? I mean, I don't expect people to require detailed specs before approving, but a quick "what's this code for, and why are you doing it?" before addressing the details.
Surely that's the bare minimum, isn't it?
Assuming they don't just fail to register and move on ...
Are you suggesting I shouldn't be allowed an account with you if the person who beat me to my preferred email address also beat me to registering with you?
result = Optional.ofNullable(nullableVariable)
.map(NullableType::someMethodCall)
.orElseGet(this::fallbackIfNullMethodCall);However, none of the people doing this really care why this is a thing, they care that, for some reason, this is a thing. It's vastly more profitable than nearly every other type of advertising, and since nobody _really_ knows how that works either, they just follow their tried and tested patterns that work.
Obvious _you_ wouldn't be this dumb. But it turns out that, on average, you are exactly this dumb ...
The cost to the advertiser has stayed the same (or in reality, has probably gone down slightly, as it's likely fewer people are bidding on the impression) while the revenue per impression has overall gone up.
I get the impression I'm not alone and a whole lot of people who enjoy good writing that may or may not be science fiction just wish she'd accept it and move on.
Most Americans do not have good enough insurance.
The cost per person of health care in the US is far, far higher than that of the countries you're deriding.
People do, actually, choose to have their cancer treated in the UK.
Try to get mental health care in the US if you're poor.
Care being denied because you're too old, or too young is just crap. Your whole "the government will stop you" argument is based on one story where a child's parent's wanted to make their suffering last longer, even though the evidence was quite clear that the only people who would benefit from it was the people lying to them about whether there was anything that could be done.
The NHS is responsible for an astonishing number of advances in medicine. And no, it isn't a coincidence.
