Appreciate this information and perspective :)

This is a true criticism of Seattle, I have to cook everything myself haha

I live in Washington and I don't understand how anybody can live in LA unless they have a physical job or family that is tying them there.

If you like hot weather, there are many better places to live, like Scottsdale or Naples. If you must live in California, why not Palm Springs?

If you are concerned about taxes and cost of living and you don't need California's weather, virtually any other state has a safe community for you to live in.

sushsjsuauahab··on Would you give 10% of your salary to charity?
No.

This can be solved by doing the following:

instead of checking "currentPosition" and "futurePosition" for a collision per frame, instead compute a sphere using those two values as bounds, and check if there are any collisions within that sphere

sushsjsuauahab··on I have no idea what I’m doing
It's depressing how fun and productive it can be to model a domain, but then attempting to deploy that in a production enterprise environment is dependency hell.
sushsjsuauahab··on Ask HN: Why is Docusign a $50B company?
Considering that most cases of theft don't end up in public courts? Yes I'd be happy to go to mandatory arbitration.
sushsjsuauahab··on Ask HN: Why is Docusign a $50B company?
I did not, but only because in my case the monetary damage was not sufficient to pursue it. I would have liked to have seen those responsible be prosecuted for it, though.

If the monetary damage was high enough vis-a-vis the ability of the public system to deliver me restitution for my losses, I'd very quickly be hiring private detectives yes.

sushsjsuauahab··on Ask HN: Why is Docusign a $50B company?
That depends-- have you ever had something stolen from you, which you then reported to police, after which nothing happened?
sushsjsuauahab··on Ask HN: Why is Docusign a $50B company?
Which itself is underpinned by a complex web of private title insurance companies and real estate lawyers who have to waste time and money attempting to convince a judge of what reality really is.
sushsjsuauahab··on Ask HN: Why is Docusign a $50B company?
The government can barely keep a port open or bomb a proper target, and we want to give them control over what is true and what isn't?

Ah yes, now I know why all of those shootings and mass murders happened in the Turkish airport-- there was no system for mapping identities to SIM cards!!

sushsjsuauahab··on I faked tons of Covid passes – “Weak Key Cryptography in real world”

Could you explain a little bit more how cosmic rays move through space and how they cause values stored in hardware to change?

There was an interesting glitch in SM64 where a player was teleported to a new location because of a specific bit being flipped by a cosmic ray. I'm curious to know how the ray flips specific bits (why certain ones and not others), and how the process works electrically.

EDIT: Ah interesting, seems like these particles are like protons coming from supernovae and black holes. They are moving basically at the speed of light, and are much smaller than the electron well where energy is stored in hardware, so that's why they are able to flip exactly one bit when they collide with that one transistor.

I think the de facto answer for this is to make your own website

I lived this type of lifestyle 10 years ago before it was cool. Now I am a workaholic and spend every waking moment running circles around people while coding.
sushsjsuauahab··on Ask HN: I feel so shallow and dumb when I see what other smart people are doing
For me, I taught myself how to program slowly over 3 years because I felt any other path wasn't viable for me.

I optimized for passing interviews and keeping managers happy.

Then I used my free time to code the things I enjoy, which are mostly 3d games.

Good luck!

sushsjsuauahab··on Ask HN: Best cars without too much digitalization?
My algorithm is like this:

Pick the body style you like/can afford.

Remove the engine and all electronics and sell them.

Install crate engine and aftermarket electronics to taste.

sushsjsuauahab··on Will real estate ever be normal again?
This is the only comment I've responded to in my thread.

I live in the woods in a rainy location. Everyone has 0.5 acres and lots of trees. The grocery store is 10 mins away and we only have one major road in and out.

For those who want to live a different style of life, please go live it.

But for us who are living here, it seems to me we want to preserve our way of life so that we don't have to deal with the pollution, noise, and safety issues that some larger cities are having trouble with.
