Also, these productivity gains arent used to reduce working time for the same number of people, but instead to reduce the number of people needed to do the same amount of work. Working people get to see the productivity benefits via worsening material conditions.
Not effected by layoffs - my company mostly runs of government money which appears to still be flowing.
Ai has saved me very little time so far. It's probably cost me work time as I ask it more non-work related stuff.
I often think about code at night but only in the context of a personal project.
I'm loving it now though, I have 3 computers running it and a flake that I push to github. I can push changes to my flake and have all my systems reflect the changed with a quick nixos-rebuild. Also being able to roll back is invaluable.
I reformatted one of my systems the other day and it only took about an hour to have my whole system in the exact same state it was before with all my tooling and files.
In theory I like the idea but in practice I agree with OP.
